      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Maybe you are.  Zezo just told me to go north for an additional 6 hours instead of being able to settle in for a week without gybes.  That probably isn't good news.

Ultimately, my plan is contingent upon the doldrums being unavoidably god-awful.  There have been times when I've considered jumping to the escort frigate, as its position isn't terrible with the whole fleet ramming into a wall...  but I keep telling myself the forecasts from PNG to Tonga will change dramatically with every update and a path through there that looks good right now might look terrible in 6 hours.  My path East of Tonga should be much more reliable.  Just a lot longer.

Little does he know, we secretly programed in the Race to Alaska for the finish for Your Mom  in Zezo...

Well, I passed RQ-Naos today, so I'm hoping I'm at the front of my route now, for whatever that turns out to be worth in the end.

I find myself wondering what angle the buoy 1 validation occurs at, and whether or not I might be the first one to validate it, from a bazillion miles away...  Not that it matters.  I'm leaving Tonga to starboard.

You only have enough cards to program two turns in succession or three separately. Cards suck, they cost a lot to buy. I would be in a far better position if I had ponied up for 2 navigation packs near Japan instead of sailing the wrong way for 6 hours..

Was just wondering if anyone will beat me on distance sailed this leg!

Collecting cards means you have very few at the beginning of the leg and then they start throwing useless ‘Help’ cards at you. It takes quite a while to build up anything useful in the yoghurt tub, which is fine if you’re sailing in a straight line in trade wind conditions.

Yarrrrr!!!

It's getting annoying how many people are asking me every day in the game "where are you going?"  "what's your strategy" "are you going to Alaska"?  I'm starting to wish I had taken the doldrums route.  The good news is that 48 hours from now, I'll be East of Auckland and heading pretty close to due South, so the answer to those questions will finally be self-evident.

Just  two questions about how the game plays for me on my PC, and the things that annoy me, I'm wondering if this happens to others.

It seems that about 50% of the time now on login I have to sign in with my email address and password, then go through the tutorial, even though I have ticked the do not show me the tutorial again box many times. It used to be a straight login without the sign in, now it is getting worse.

As well, once on the game screen I have problems clicking onto my friends boats and other random boats that appear so I can see their performance details.  I know my connection speed (ADSL2) is slow, (would you believe around 2-3 mbps if I'm lucky). Thanks, RSII.

Just been having a look at the run in to Auckland. With a number of tropical storms floating around the South Pacific and patches of nothing in between, it looks tricky. That could well be the point when Your Mom flies through at a more favorable angle...

Usually i don't have to log in/sign in with the EMail on the the PC or the tablet. It only occurs very seldom and i suspect it's after i used another device the time before. And yes, the settings including tutorial/sound/music are always gone with the new sign in. Did maybe some privacy settings (cookies) change for your browser?

I also can confirm the clicking issue with the latest version on both PC and tablet. Changing the zoom level helps to make those boats clickable but it's still annoying.

Your connection should be fast enough. I have "only" twice your speed since several months and before had the same so i feel your pain.

There was a Swedish boat yesterday spinning around at a fixed 110 TWA in the cyclone vortex east of the Philippines. He might have twirled around a gazillion times in there and leapfrogged you in distance-sailed :P

Spadadua checking in. The position Spadadua is currently in is entirely the product of semi-blind luck and a lot of traveling with little time to fuck up things that are actually working. No worries true leaders, I'm sure the Spadadua will soon work its way back to its usual mid-SA Fleet position...

Also Mom, talk about banging the corner! Holy crap! Seeing you up there is someone intimidating. Like a bomb about to drop through the fleet.

There is something seriously wrong with the ranking within the game. A couple hours ago i went from rank ~46.000 to ~35.000 and also the DTL (without the leader changing) went down from ~900NM to ~250NM within several minutes. I saw the same for a couple friend boats around of me (Shorty, Ozzy, ...) while the some a little more north of me (Breitling, ...) have the old data.

I use both but tend to bring my computer with me so i can use routing (yes i have lost all my friends since the race begun ) If i can't bring my computer then i'll use my phone. Been also using predict wind a bit for routing in this leg and the portugal to South Africa leg where it is useful to use the ECMWF model as well as i find it tends to be more accurate at long range forecasting although that may just be BS.

Use my phone, tablet and computer; just depends on where I am and what I'm doing.  Has anyone else notice a difference in Zezo's routing if they use Chrome or Firefox?  I'm seeing some major differences and can't explain it.  Anyone else experiencing this??  Thanks!

I’m using the computer, iPad and iPhone all at once. One entry on the iPad  and the other on the computer (to follow Groups A and C). The iPhone is to take screen shots of the computer. Getting pretty high tech up here.....

Regarding the problem of having to sign in frequently...  That often happens to me if I go straight into the game right after starting up the computer, while background apps are still loading and Zezo is loading in another page, and maybe my email is downloading messages, etc.  In other words, it happens when the processor and/or bandwidth are taxed.  I usually exit, give the computer a minute to catch up with its processes, and then try again, and it usually doesn't ask for the logon again.  On the other hand, if you actually log in the first time, then yeah...  it requires you to do the tutorial stuff again, etc.

frustrating hours... since i don't pay... (a slight chance that i will consider the option for next leg... since it is one of the real legs/ the real leg in my opinion...) i only have the c0 and the light options.... and it makes a full knot difference at the moment... (polars)

Found this on wiki, one to watch out for on Mar 25. Lets just bloody go back to Greenwich.

As of 2011, all member states of the European Union observe summer time; those that during the winter use CET use Central European Summer Time (CEST) (or: UTC+02:00, daylight saving time) in summer (from last Sunday of March to last Sunday of October).

I finally decided to go ahead and check the routings for the main lead pack against mine, and it looks like I'm totally screwed.  The whole plan was based on the doldrums being awful, but it looks like the main lead pack will have reasonable lanes to get through.  I'm projected to finish 2-3 days after whoever wins.  Oh well.  I wanted to try something different because I was sick of the doldrums, and I did that.  Occasionally that can pay off, but it usually doesn't.
