      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Yep. It’s manual entry, and a PITA. I’m game for commandeering savahanna yc, but I don’t think we’ll get everyone to participate. And the 3 poor souls who are using it will be surprised.

One of those poor souls 'tis I. Screw it. Let's take one for the team and make it easier on mkgsailor. Sign up for our new SAvannah Yacht Club! I nominate JohnBoy for commodore.

Loving the 20kt+ blast, but a bit depressed it's back to Light Jib in 40hrs.  Strange, I'm about as sad about it as if I were really out there on the water...

Actually, that's bull - I'd be looking forward to the chance to dry out!

Spent last night traveling down to FLA.  Made the mistake letting the TWA mode steer me.  Now I am north of everyone else in the West Group.  Oh well. It was follow the leader the last couple days anyway.

I pulled a "can't win by following" and split north.  Looks like a little hotter angles in lighter stuff to the finish...

I've stayed north not to gain a few places but to stay on the front, if i'd gone more south i'd have fallen off it

Hello, here are the 01:00UTC rankings.  I've added in the places which were taken slightly later, and it shows that many people are so close that a few minutes variation makes a difference of several places.  It's a bit of a drag race at the front, but setting up for the gybe and the reach to the beer has the potential to change a lot of positions.  I think if I was RQ-Naos I would be playing it differently - get between the main group and the finish. He has lost a lot of miles in the last 24hrs.  We will see.......

Yeah, me too. Race from where you are,  it where you wish you were. Other things i’ve learned: Don’t hit islands early on in the leg. It’s slow.

To make the south work - you had to be further south than I was to stay in enough breeze to ride the front with out risk of being dropped off the back... So - I've had to re-position myself further north for safety - which means taking the medicine.

Nice transom you've got there :(

LOL, thanks TR....Been there done that already once, which is why i am already 2+ days behind everyone else..I am trying to avoid that again. Dropped 5000 places with that jibe, but now I am ever slow slowly picking a few off here and there. I see rule69 just a few hours behind me doing the same...C'mon r69...we got this!!

On the road for turkey day trip tomorrow, but only for a few hours and I can check in again. I am also not losing sleep or using Zezo. What does one do with 35 weather cards? Can we trade them in later to not pay on the next leg?

Yes, VR will buy them back at the end of the race and you can use the credits towards the next leg.  You also get credits for your placing. I think Mom dealt with it up thread near the end of Leg 1.

Be careful with Miss 69, she'll have you if she finds you in a vulnerable position.....:P

I've been card farming the other games, It pays to not finish the race quickly as the credits for the cards exceeds the placement.

I was just going to say with the card farming tactics make sure you use up all your this game only credits! 10 card pack is 180 credit (18/card) I think you get back 10 per card so at least you can carry over some credits. Occasionally they have those timed deals to by card packs cheaper.

I am strangely nervous.  I've almost got into the top 100 and I've just programmed in 4 course changes over the next 8 hrs while I sleep, including the crucial gybe.  Is this a good idea?  Probably not, we'll see the answer tomorrow morning.

Good night.

Does anyone have a clear winner right now?  Not me, not even a guess about which part of the fleet will take the lead after the final gybe. Everything will be decided in the last hours.

well RQ-naos has it wrapped up, battle for second i'd assume the more northern boats (La semanilina) as they will have a better angle coming into Cape Town and should get the cross on Marcus and co.

@WetHog - you and I have a fun race to the finish - you approaching from the South with over 100nm separation, only 5nm difference DTF...

Have a feeling your route will pay - but we shall see.  Would help us both if we had more time to log in and tweak!  Interesting to see how many of us ended up rounding north on auto TWA, before logging in to adjust towards the finish.... ;-)

Away for the holidays so little time for the boat and I forgot to change to East and now I am way south.  Bummer.  Finishing under 1000 is my only hope.  I did catch my first sail fish today so my VORG screw up was worth it.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Nothing left but the drag race now.  Time to start throwing gear out the back.

Well the new forecast seems to have less backing in the wind, so suddenly the position to the north of the SA fleet doesn’t look as bad as it was a few hours ago.

Unbelievable. I panicked and ducked south dropping 10 spots to prevent what i thought would be a bigger loss on the previous forecast. If Id stayed where I was I would probably have climbed 10 by now instead! Oh well, at least I havent stuffed up like normal. 1am here, who needs sleep!

Well, I need sleep, I've still not woken up during this race for a single check/adjustment.  I'm off to sleep now, hopeful that 110deg TWA will still be as wonderful in the morning as it is now.

Sweet dreams everyone!

Contrary to @'I Sail The Black Boat' i think you get only 5 credits back for each unused card, but it is still the best option to spend the remaining credit which you have "only available for this race" on buying cards. Also keep in mind that the price for 5 card packages with the counter underneath changes for different type of cards offered there (type changes every 10 minutes).

With finish line in sight, just want to thank Breightling and Gybe Turkey for the smooth water off their transoms...seriously, do you guys EVER make a mistake? Great racing!

Sure we do. In fact the mistake was made at the Canary Islands latitudes, this leg is almost always decided at that point. Later I was highly tempted to go the RQ way, the St. Helens high shape was worth to try, but decided to be more conservative and slowly catch up on the SA lead group from 6 hours separation to just 1 at the finish. That was probably the second mistake.

Congrats Stu, very well done. And congrats you all other SAers, we are a solid group.

Just saw unlimited cards for leg 3 with purchase of the full options pack.  Did I see that right?

I did.  Only took 2 legs for the VORG folks to get worn down.
