      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Nexus Classic Instrument problems/fixes

Recommended Posts

I have a Nexus Classic network, server w/ digital Depth, Speed, Temp, Wind, Multi and A_Pilot . I hate to give this system up as it has worked flawlessly until this year.

A friend who helped me do the bottom this year (can;t complain to him) and not knowing any better painted over the Depth Transducer with bottom paint.  After splashing the boat I had no sounder return on the depth instrument.  The classic sounder lets you pull the transducer while wet so I pulled it and sanded off the paint.  Did the sanding kill the transducer as I still have no depth readings?

Secondly, I noticed this year that my wind instrument is not displaying realistic wind speed, i.e. 4.7 kts in what is truly 15 kts actual using a hand anemometer.

Are the wired Garmin instruments and transducers compatible with the 4 wire Nexus Classic Instruments?

Thanking all for any and all replies.

Captain Bruce.

Probably the best thing to do would be get the Garmin GND10 black box and Garmin/Nexus wired wind transducer.  The bearings in your wind transducer are probably shot.  The replacement setup will put the wind data of the Nexus bus (4 wire interface you reference).  It also will give you a NMEA 2000 bus to interface other stuff in the future.  My guess is the depth transducer finally died from age.  If you install the GND10, you could install a depth transducer with a NMEA 2000 interface. Do you have the 43 or 52mm transducer?

If you have the 43mm transducers Garmin sells replacements.  The GND10 recommended by WHK works great connecting my NX2 instruments to the chart plotter, it speaks both ways.  Might be obvious but did you check the transducer connections at the instruments? Any corrosion or loose wires?

Looks like if I go for the gnd10 black box bridge it will open all sorts of opportunities for me.  Thanks guys.

Where should I be measuring the depth transducer, I dont know which one I have?

Outer diameter of the transducer mounting thingamabob.

Are we talking about the thru hull cylinder or the removable transducer itself?

I have the 43mm transducer and it requires a 43mm or 1 11/16" hole in the hull for mounting.  The thru-hull cylinder is 42mm x 86mm according to the installation manual.
