If your a sailor girl or boy and have suffered from harassment at a yacht club, on the water or even here in the Forum just post ME TOO.

The minute I arrived some old creep LB15 ask to see my tits, I know its been a thing here forever but its time it stopped.

Just post me too and if you remember who it was you can say that as well if you want.

There is no place for sexual harassment of women or men in our sport.

ME TOO.

Some asshole harassed me for not giving way. All because he had a bigger boat.  Rich entitled prick.  He was on starboard as well.

Do I get to see the tits now?

This place is a cess pit, no wonder sailing in general struggles.

If you treat your mothers, wives and daughters like you behave here you'd be locked up

Lord Ian called it the Masturbating Monkey pit, I think.

I wouldn't let my mom, wife, or daughter go in a bar with a bunch of Russian sailors either. The place is named Sailing Anarchy FFS.

Help us out here comrade Meli!

No - sexual harassment is male on female.

Female on male is referred to as "Getting Lucky".

At my little yacht club there are a plethora of single older ladies who regularly "hassle" the single guys and the more friendly married guys... Our wives & girlfriends are very aware and wary of these ladies as they're on the prowl for a fella... In the girls circle, they've literally said that's their aim for taking up sailing - find a fella.

This attention from these ladies causes all kinds of friction amongst the couples that frequent the club.

All of them will show you their tits if asked...

Oh, by the way - i wonder if the anti-harrassment movement is aware that the "hash tag" had previously been called a "pound" sign, not so long ago? You know, as in, "Our day-sailor weighs about 650#, all set up to go."

So consider the implications -

  # me too...

On a more serious note, posting a single sign to say that one has been the victim of sexual assault OR sexual harassment  kind of risks watering down the message, in my mind anyway.  Absolutely, any person who's been "Weinsteined" in order to be considered for a film role or has been  touched without permission in a yacht club, has been sexually harassed. Of course she or he has been sexually harassed.  On the other hand, the taxpayers paid good money to make sure my co-workers and I are aware that sexual harrassment includes those things, AND, is also comprised of "unwelcomed" comments or expressions or looks.

Unwelcomed looks.

One example is the "elevator eyes". The hot chick younger, attractive woman who dresses for work ready for beach volleyball or in her little brother's worn-out jeans, gets noticed by a guy who starts at the perfect cleavage, goes down to the perfect thigh gap, checks out the balance of the leg region out of principle, thence up past the narrow waist - makes a redundant chest evaluation - and ends up with the dolled-up face under the well-trimmed hair just brushed aside.  She takes offense.  Or, even noticing that a shirt is unbuttoned to the lower sternum...

To even discuss the lesser, yet rude category in a way that includes all facets of the envoronment risks getting accused of "blaming the victim", which no right-minded person wants to do. In order to talk about it at all, we must have a focal point. We, therefore, blame the male (who is genetically and anthropologically predisposed toward mating with as many females as will allow it) and avoid any inference, suggestion, or mention about any trace of culpability on the part of the female (who is genetically and anthropologically predisposed to advertise for and find a mate, subject to vetting for the ability to protect, shelter, provide for, and open tight food containers).

While this reads like some sort of reduction ad absurdum diatribe, I assure you that this is not being said tbat way or in order to excuse poor behavior.  The message is that, as unwelcomed as all forms of "sexual harrassment" are, the colloquial term as used today includes stuff I would not want to have diluting the larger problem of, say, outright hands-on groping, mashing up against an elevator wall with hard-on, direct and intimidating speech, and - most certainly -  coerced sex or forced sex.

One category is highly distasteful and actionable, no doubt;   the other category, absolutely an attack upon the body and mind alike and a serious distrust of whatever relationship  (work, home, date...) two persons might have...  and usually illegal [duh].

When I see the "#me too", I don't know if it's the uncle who likes to sit too close, the teacher who might bump up a grade for a look at the puppies, a comment about whether the curtain matches the drapes,  a smart assholic comment about PMS,  the 15-y/o guy who convinces the 11-y/o girl to trade "peeks", some anonymous dick on a forum who asks for a photo that he can pretend are the newbie's tits,  the boss who requires something above work performance for a favorable review or promotion, a guy who went too far on a date even if she said "no", or, a full-out rape at knife point.

It's a very wide swath.  So wide, in fact, that we can assume that every female from 8 years of age up to death, experiences one or more forms of these abuses simply for being female. And that is sad.  If the "#mee too" is that broad,  and without further details, is it really telling us something we didn't know (i.e. men are or can be  assholes)?

At the very least, we're talking about it and so there is a benefit, in so far as dialogue's generally a good starting point.

We will.....as in all things.....over react to roll frivolous assertions into a big bundle with legitimate and egregious occurrences. And.....as a result water down and give naysayers a lever to minimize the problems with legitimate transgressions. That way people on both sides of the question can hang onto their "example" they have culled from the stack of those presented as the reason all such accusations/transgressions do or do not have merit. Anyone who says....."now wait a minute, that isn't sexual harassment" will be pilloried.

Its what we do.

More or less.  Nothing justifies contact or vile innuendo, though, one does have a choice from time to time, how to be perceived. Sometimes. Not always. Occasionally.

I'm not advocating anything but it was funny at the time.

I'm talking to a guy at work and this young woman dressed in pretty provocative clothing walks up wanting to ask a question. As he and I were finishing our chat, he looks over and his eyebrows raise. She said, "What are you looking at?"

He says, "What are you showing me?"

Well 20 minutes later, we get pulled into HR and told we need to go to sexual harassment training. For me, it was just a wrong place, wrong time issue but I got wrapped into it. Bob looks at the HR person and says in deadpan, "Why do I need to go to sexual harassment training? I'm apparently already very good at it."

HR woman just turns around and walks away laughing.

Assuredly, "Sometime Life Bites You in the Ass," as one User wrote, if you don't know what you're talking about.

That appendage is hardly useless.  If nothing else, it is mighty convenient to easily pee wherever we like.  I think if women could easily stand to pee, they would rule the world now, not men.

I do remember  sailing to the windward mark, on port tack, when my skippers cute sister in law said don't look as she shimmied out of her tight daisy dukes hiking on the rail,  to relieve herself, but also to expose that neatly trimmed blonde muff that we were not supposed to look at. A couple of regattas ago in the prestart we passed a boat with a gal standing on the swim step, hanging onto the backstay with her foulies round her ankles pissing out a stream of urine like a horse. My only thought at the time was "damn my swollen prostate" - I'd love to be able to shoot a decent stream 6 feet past the transom.

Was I wrong not to spend enough time appreciating her ass?
