Well, unlike golf you can't blow the racecourse away. Shoreside venue is another detail. Many people going down there expecting a comfortable vacation will find third world conditions instead - even in the "nicer" places.

Actually, even now only seven weeks after the hurricane, things are far better than ‘third world’. In the Simpson Bay area where most competitors will stay, drink, and dine, most places are open, including several hotels. Island wide, accommodation inventory is already about 40% - higher in Simpson Bay. By the end of the year, our marine infrastructure should be good to go for the season - even now all the chandlers, sailmakers, riggers are open. Marinas are being cleared pretty quickly now, with some already open, and all have announced openings before 1 January.

The St Maarten Heineken Regatta will definitely go ahead, and it will be one not to miss.

oh, and the golf course is open.

Did I overthink this?  We were planning on going again this year, but everything I read (including their tourism bureau).  So we abandoned our plans figuring jacked up lodging rates or no lodging available.  Didn't want to sleep on the boat.  I'm sure those that went had a blast.  But what was lodging like as far as price and availability?  Kudos to those who braved it.  Thanks
