      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Why Circolo della Vela Sicilia?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone shed some light on why CVS was chosen by Luna Rossa as their club, as opposed to another Italian club?  Absolutely no disrespect to CVS intended but I have been in Sicily for the past few weeks and the island does not strike me as a hotbed of yacht racing.  Could it be that, just as Taormina was chosen for the recent G7 meeting (over Florence) to raise Sicily's profile with tourists and help the economy, LR hopes to boost Sicily's economy as well?  Is there a family or regional connection?  Again, no disrespect intended, just interested in the backstory.

I think more of a personal connection between club owner ans LR guys. Cvs is also checco bruni "home" club ( Bruni bros are from Palermo)

Sailing is not big in sicily, and it is not very developed as you say ( a lot of sailors, but mainly on old boats and not a lot of big regattas) but cvs has quite a bit of history, so it sounds reasonable to have them as a club representing the COR. They are 80 years old, they organize one of the biggest regattas in the med (Palermo Montecarlo). So while sailing in sicily is not as big as it could, considering the very good sailing condition they have ( it is mainly an econimic issue),  cvs still does look as a proper COR.

This is their third Challenge out of that Club, not their first.

Prior to AC34 they had been connected with Punta Ala (AC30) and Yacht Club Italiano di Genova (AC31)

It was originally probably driven by their skipper choice, but they have given justification along these lines in the past...

The choice of the Sicilian club has not only technical reasons: "At this moment we wanted to signal that Italy is one and to emphasize the unity of our country on a cultural and sporting level," reports internal sources to the team. But, in any case, the Circolo della Vela Sicilia is "one of the most prestigious circles in the Mediterranean, with first class sailors, for a breakdown challenge."

Dodgy translation, sorry - but gets the point across hopefully

^ What they said. If anything, the odd thing is LR choosing CVS and then setting up their base again in Cagliari, Sardinia. Wind in Palermo - or rather Mondello, Palermo's beach - is usually light but they could have gone to Trapani that's just one hour further out. Being on the W tip of Sicily, conditions there are excellent, ample space inside the harbour, one pre-AC32 Act and a coupla EXSS events took place there. In Mondello, in addition to CVS there's also Club Canottieri Roggero di Lauria; both have very nice facilities and clubhouses
