      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Interesting admonition. I've never started to read one without finishing. Though it took quite a while with the Citizens United mess.

Scalia doesn't go as far as Thomas, which is probably why he didn't join the opinion I noted.

Quote

Thus, while I have no quarrel with the Court's general proposition that the Establishment Clause "guarantees that government may not coerce anyone to support or participate in religion or its exercise," ante, at 8, I see no warrant for expanding the concept of coercion beyond acts backed by threat of penalty — a brand of coercion that, happily, is readily discernible to those of us who have made a career of reading the disciples of Blackstone rather than of Freud.

Contrast with the article I linked:

Quote

According to Thomas (and this is not new—he’s taken this position before), the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause applies only to the U.S. Congress (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”)—meaning it applies only to the federal government. Pointing to the fact that some states did have established religions at the time the Constitution was ratified, and that some did not disestablish their religions until decades later (Massachusetts did not disestablish its state religion until 1833), Thomas—with clever wordplay—says the First Amendment is “simply agnostic on the subject of state establishments.” Thomas notes that it’s possible the Establishment Clause took on a different meaning through Reconstruction and the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment in the 1860s. But he says the historical evidence for such an argument is “mixed,” and he’s not convinced.

I'm convinced by the mixed evidence that didn't convince Thomas. So was Scalia, or he would have joined part 1 of Thomas' opinion.

Just saying, if you're going to pick on a Justice over this issue, pick on Thomas. His views are more extreme and he's still alive and on the court.

For some reason , Scalia (even dead), not Thomas, gets the Reaganesque worship out here in Northern Idaho land when talk turns to Trump Bolshevism.

Some of the local guys I’ve been ‘exposed to’ would probably suggest you move North to get South and set your pointy intellectual head right, guns or no......

(Sorry about the admonition, just awkward writing on my part - the good stuff was kind of buried towards the end of the opinion....)

Trump Group Sends 12-Year-Old Girl to Interview Roy Moore Ahead of Alabama Election

Source: Newsweek

"A political group backing President Donald Trump has sent a 12-year-old girl to interview embattled Alabama Republican Senate contender Roy Moore.

The America First Project published a video Sunday that showed Millie March—who rose to fame at the age of 11 during the 2016 election due to her support for Donald Trump—interviewing Moore as part of his campaign for election in Alabama."

No word if cameras caught Roy Moore inviting her to help herself to candy in his bedroom.

Bull shit.

The Teamsters were begging for volunteers from all over the Continental USA to drive trucks for those on Puerto Rico who couldn't, but there was no fucking fuel for the trucks, and many roads were washed out making it impossible for trucks to get through even if they had fuel.

The Govt. screwed these people like Moore was trying to screw little girls.

If you've ever been to Puerto Rico, you might know that there are MANY ports of entry/access to the island. To say that the Govt. couldn't get goods from the port of San Juan to other parts of the island is like saying that The Govt. couldn't get goods to the rest of the continental USA from LA because the roads were out.

Where was FEMA with a tanker full of Diesel fuel? Where was FEMA with the D-10 dozers? the big clam shell excavators?

Once the paper towel throwing photo op was over, the funds dried up.

Only a fraction of the help promised by the Administration has arrived..... And now let's all look at another distraction! OMG! A witch hunt!!!!!!!

"Roy Moore, who is running for U.S. Senate in Tuesday’s special election, is facing multiple allegations of child sex abuse. He has largely avoided the campaign trail since these allegations first surfaced.

But on Monday night, the last day before the election, Moore held a rally. It got off to an interesting start.

One of the introductory speakers was Bill Sailing, who said he served with Moore in Vietnam. Sailing told the story of a night he spent with Moore and a third man, who he did not name. According to Sailing it was the third man’s last night in Vietnam and the man invited them to a “private club” in the city to celebrate with “a couple of beers.”

Moore and Sailing agreed. According to Sailing, they didn’t expect there was anything untoward going on at the “private club” because “there were legitimate private clubs” in Vietnam. The third man drove them to the club in his Jeep."

The second you start talking about a Jew lawyer, you better have either a development deal for a miniseries or you better be within four miles of a fairly well-developed mass-transit system. You really don't want your audience to start thinking about Jew lawyers, which does to an election pretty much what a hot water bottle does to a porn shoot.

I dunno if it's amazing, I am sadly aware of how strongly anti-democracy many Americans are. But it's also following the scary precedent of allowing courts to decide elections, instead of the voters. Even scarier when you consider the one thing that Trump is doing efficiently is appointing "conservative activist" judges.

I hope you’re right. Pretty bad optics regardless. Then there’s also the closure of DMV’s in black communities.

http://www.al.com/opinion/index.ssf/2017/01/as_it_turns_out_bentleys_drive.html

Gov. Robert Bentley denied there was any racist intent behind the closure of 31 driver license offices in 2015, but an investigation by the United States Department of Transportation found they adversely impacted majority African-American counties.

Actually the paper ballots will be preserved  this dealt with electronic records.  I can not see why the court would rule that way it sure as hell doesn't cost anything to keep electrnic records.  On the other hand the fear lately has been hacking, hard to do with paper.   I wonderr if the machines erase after down loading to avoid duplicate input to whearever the totals go?

Well certainly, whether or not he has been found guilty of any felony in the state of Alabama, Roy Moore is guilty of moral turpitude, just based on the facts that he dated young girls when he was in his 30s.

The fun just never stops:

Moore came under additional criticism last week after implying that Democrat-backing business magnate George Soros would go to hell for his Jewish faith. Moore has suggested that Soros is meddling in the Alabama Senate race.

Moore’s wife sought to address the backlash on Monday. “Fake news would tell you that we don’t care for Jews,” Kayla Moore said. “I tell you all this because I’ve seen it also; I just want to set the record straight while they’re here. One of our attorneys is a Jew. We have very close friends who are Jewish and rabbis, and we also fellowship with them.”

Our dog, our cat, our Jew.  Even in Alabama the 13th Amendment exists.

Preliminary exit poll results show stark divides based on race in the US Senate race in Alabama.

  • Nearly six in 10 voters for Democrat Doug Jones were black in these preliminary exit polls
  • Nine in 10 Moore voters were white. A slim majority of voters for Moore were white men.

(Three in 10 voters in this election are black in these initial results, a number that can change as more results come in throughout the night. That portion is on par with presidential elections in 2008 and 2012.)

2 things...

1.  what the fuck did Moore's wife mean, when she says they "fellowship" with some of their jewish friends?  Doesn't "fellowship" as a verb, usually mean going to church together?  Confused.

2.  why did Moore ride to the polls on his horse, when he's such a horrible rider?  Is he trying to make himself look stupid?  I've ridden about 3 or 4 times, in my entire friggin life, and I guarantee you I don't look half as awkward in the saddle.

2(b).  How the hell do you OWN a horse, and still be such a shitty rider?  I mean, if you own a horse, you must get more than 3 chances to ride in your lifetime?

If it didn't matter, there wouldn't be such a stark difference in the results and the exit polls would show that

For Democrats, that appears to be the case, with the difference in race voting for Jones being less than 10%. For Republicans, that isn't the case with a 40% difference.

So there is your answer. People count by race because the results show that race matters when it comes to the Republican votes.

When one of the candidates says we should get rid of every amendment past the 10th? (including, presumably, the 13th?)

And then when someone asks him, "when's the last time this country was 'Great'", he answers: back when slavery was legal?

When 10% of his supporters, asked why they were supporting him instead of Jones, cite Jones' prosecution of the KKK Church bombing child murderers?

OBVIOUSLY race still matters, ya fuckin moron.
