      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Reading these accounts from the locals that knew Moore, I'm thinking it's a Sandusky type situation.  Or Weinstein.  Powerful important guy in the community.  "Oh, that's just Roy/Jerry, he's kind of weird like that.  He really loves young people."  Everyone pretty much knew, no one wanted to speak up because you'd bring the wrath of the community on you.

So the Alabama GOP has kind of dug in and gone all in on Roy Moore.

The National GOP has hit the eject button including an ever increasing number of Senators who are taking the position that "Roy Moore should leave the race now" instead of "if it turns out he can be proven guilty in a court of law".  An increasing number are saying maybe he shouldn't be seated or perhaps he should even be expelled if he wins.

Tough situation.  Moore voters make up the core constituency of Alabama GOP officeholders, but for the national party I think they see Jones winning as a lesser evil at this point.  If Moore wins they will either have to seat him, or not seat him or vote to expel, all of which have serious consequences with either their core Trumpy voters or with non Trumpy voters costing them a large number of seats nationally.

I suspect the preferred outcomes for McConnell and co. are, in this order:

1.  Luther Strange wins as a write in (unlikely)

2.  Jones wins.  GOP doesn't have to confront the issue of seating Moore and having Moore and Trump be the face of the GOP until 2020 and further the electoral tsunami in 2018 and 2020.  And they can likely win the seat back in 2020 anyway.

3.  Moore wins.

That has to do with the difference in how Scot drops the ban hammer and I used to.

When I banned people it was more like a visit from the NKVD  - they'd just disappear quietly in the night and it may be a few days before the neighbors notice something was amiss since I didn't touch any posts or content or delete the account. They just went silent, though some permanent bans got moved to a new group called "Banned" from Members.

Scot tends to use the "flag as spammer" button, which is a bit less subtle as it bans the account and deletes every post they've ever made. He doesn't announce it, but from the collateral damage to threads and content, it's obvious what happened.

Back on topic, this Moore guy is a true pervert.

Quote

Roy Moore, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Alabama, was banned from a mall in the early 1980s after he repeatedly attempted to pick up teenage girls, former mall employees and local police told The New Yorker. Other locals also told AL.com that Moore was known for prowling the mall. Moore, whom five women have accused of making advances on them or molesting them when they were teenagers, allegedly had a reputation for hanging around the Gadsden Mall, in Gadsden, Alabama, in pursuit of high school-age girls. One former mall employee told The New Yorker that a security guard asked mall employees to be on the lookout for Moore, who was “banned from the mall.” Blake Usry, who was a teenager in town at the time, told AL.com Moore was known to "flirt with all the young girls," and would hang out at the mall on weekends "like the kids did." Other locals told AL.com that Moore's penchant for flirting with teens was common knowledge in town. One former waitress told AL.com that Moore made young waitresses uncomfortable by staring at them, then becoming rude if they did not "give him an opening." A police officer, one of two who spoke with The New Yorker, said that “general knowledge at the time when I moved here was that this guy is a lawyer cruising the mall for high-school dates”

How about some Koch-funded stuff about politics instead of sex?

Quote

Because even before yesterday's Post story came out, there were plenty of reasons to completely dissociate from Moore, a bully, a blowhard, and a lifelong opponent of immigration and civil rights.

In 2005 he argued that "homosexual conduct should be illegal," and last year he declared the Supreme Court's decision legalizing gay marriage worse than an 1850s ruling upholding slavery. He's dodged questions about executing individuals for homosexual conduct. He ran on as an anti-immigration hardliner but didn't even know what DACA, an immigration program started under President Obama, was. On two separate occasions, he's been pushed out of the Alabama Supreme Court for refusing to comply with legal directives. Moore, who first lost his Supreme Court for refusing to remove a display of the 10 Commandments from his courtroom, has argued repeatedly that Rep. Keith Ellison should not be allowed to serve in Congress because he is a Muslim.

A bad candidate in addition to a creep IMO. But that's just the typical racist Koch view.

How long before Moore admits that these things happened, but claims that it was before he found The Lord, after which he has been on the righteous path?  That gets him a landslide win in AL, methinks.

I guess pedophilia is one of those shining lights on the hill for Conservatives.

"Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL) says he will continue to support Roy Moore because the conservative agenda is too important to be derailed by the sexual allegations against the embattled senate candidate.

Moore’s campaign is under increasing pressure now that a fifth woman has come out with her claims about Moore’s disturbing behavior towards her when she was a teenager. Multiple Republican figures have dropped their endorsements for Moore’s campaign and recommended that he step down in favor of a Republican write-in candidate for next month’s election.

Based on Brook’s statement to The Birmingham News, it seems he’ll support Moore despite the recent news:

“America faces huge challenges that are vastly more important than contested sexual allegations from four decades ago. Who will vote in America’s best interests on Supreme Court justices, deficit and debt, economic growth, border security, national defense, and the like? Socialist Democrat Doug Jones will vote wrong. Roy Moore will vote right. Hence, I will vote for Roy Moore.”

Well, the democrat is slighty ahead of the pedophile now.  Although 9% are like Dog, undecided as to whether they would vote for a pedophile or a democrat.

Quote

The results are within the poll’s margin of error of 4.1 percentage points—and nine percent remain undecided—but it still demonstrates just how much the Senate race in Alabama has changed since the Washington Post’s story last week. The poll marks the first time Jones has come out ahead in a poll and marks a reversal from the previous survey that found Moore ahead by eight points. The poll also shows how Moore has seen support slip among both men and women. While support for Moore among women was tied at 42 percent in October, now he is trailing by six percentage points. Moore is now tied among male voters at 47 percent, a huge decrease from the 54-38 percent margin he enjoyed in October.

uh oh, the RINO in chief says go away:

(CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan called allegations leveled against Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore about pursuing relationships with teenage girls and committing sexual assault "credible" and that he should step aside.

"He should step aside," Ryan told CNN Tuesday morning. "Number one, these allegations are credible. Number two, if he cares about the values that he claims to care about, then he should step aside."

it's part of the new model of campaign financing. Any organization can now run adverts saying pretty much anything political - but some are actually from the candidate - so the candidate says so or at least approves it...

If the candidate isn't on it, you can assume it's some other organization funding it.  the candidate it is meant to help may, or may not, agree with the messaging.

I honestly can't tell if you are serious or sarcastic through the internet.  So do you think if you call a special election, and then it unexpectedly looks like it might not turn out in your favor, that it's a legitimate solution to just call off the election until you can achieve a more favorable condition for your party?  Are you a guy who, if losing at chess, sweeps the pieces off the board and calls for a do over?

Also, regarding your other question, I googled it for you!  Age of consent in Alabama is 16.

The issue of unsubstantiated accusations against candidates reported in the press has become routine in US elections.  It is far more damming than the Russian campaign involvement.  When the financial stakes of winning are high enough I guess "anything goes" is the new mantra.  Both sides need to consider more in depth vetting processes.
