This guy appears far from clueless..

Note he insists he wasn't 'rescued' - rather, he asked for a tow into port.

Good Call.

Kris is far from clueless.

Quote"He did not have communications equipment onboard, authorities say, and his engine and sails were in poor condition." unquote

Kehaar is engineless, so suspect the clown who reported his engine  in poor condition is clueless.

Kris marches to a slightly different drum to the rest of us.

Nice , resourceful guy.

Agree, did get from Panama to Hawaii in that thing tho'.......

Kris has completed  multiple successful voyages in "that thing".

He left Darwin about 3 years ago. South Africa, Venezuela,  then to Argentina via the Cape Verde Islands , then Panama.

No electronics, just sextant and compass, Last time I saw him he was stitching up a new Mainsail on the Sailing Clubs bar room floor.

I swapped a couple emails with him a couple years back. OK, he's a bit of an oddball, but IMO that's a plus. Got to admire someone like him who actually does it with little fuss and can make his own stuff when he needs to. I'd lend him a hand any time (or buy him a beer).

watch out there -- he's originally Czech.

Shit, that explains everything.  Czechs aren't near as crazy as Poles though.

More and more Poles moving to Oz.......

The young ones are moving everywhere.  No money to be made in Poland.  Small cites are cheap to live in with no job prospects beyond laborer and the big cities have big city jobs, big city prices and low Polish salaries.  The dream is go to university and then get a job in Germany or beyond.

Well being from Ozz can usually explain a lack of ability to play a decent game of rugby, or hold their beer. But being a Czech confuses the beer issue.

There is a local here ( Pritchard ?? ) who sings " Hold my beer while I kiss your girl "

Naturally I did not check to see where anyone was from before posting. I am originally English, moved to NZ, played rugby and drank beer, moved to Hawaii and went surfing, and moved to Canada a few years ago.
