      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

He is doing the job, just not in a way most would approve of.  Wasn't he supposed to have resigned by now?  Wouldn't last a  year was the mantra after the election.  Instead we have a booming economy, record stock market, lowest unemployment in decades, tax reform and a goverment being geared to support economic growth rather than hinder it

I'd be careful crowing about the "tax reform" - it's a terrible thing for most, myself included - and I'm decidedly "unrich".  The economic blips are speculative, IMHO - but I'll take 'em while they last.  Attributing those things to anything the Trump administration has accomplished is a bit of a stretch, i think.

The most amazing thing Trump has done? Continue to fool his supporters.  Seriously, a classic con game and I know people who think he is 1. doing a great job or 2. would be doing a great job if everyone would just get out of his way.    You can fool some of the people all of the time.

Slug Z says move, you idiot. The rest of us tax payers are tired of supporting your taker ass and your welfare-mired state.

If it were up to me personally, I would put the corporate tax rate at zero and adjust the personal income tax rate. Discourage all the corporate kleptocrats from sucking money out of their companies and putting it in their own pockets. You know, the way it was in the good old days.

Yep. It only seems like yesterday that a rising stock market was not indictive of a good economy, unemployment stats were meaningless, and deficits were a problem.

I once saw him balance a silver dollar on the tip of his nose, then flip it up in the air, catch it, on edge on the toe of his shoe, then flip it up again, and back kick it though a basketball hoop from half court.

 Now that was impressive!

Trump  actually managed to crack the lid off sexual exploitation in Hollywood and forced some people to take a hard look at past cases of sexual allegations including Anita Hill and Juanita Broaddrick.

Trump's own vile, boorish behavior will hopefully make dressing rooms safer for pageant contestants moving forward and less of that shit will go on.

To that, I give a tip of the hat.

I wouldn't say "Clearly", although knowing your style, it could have meant since 1951. And while I don't "Expect a resignation in the next few weeks", I don't think it's impossible. I think it's more likely that he will be hospitalized for some issue, and the 25th amendment will be enacted.

Basing your opinion on what some people say is akin to picking your religion by an interpretation of the Bible (or other book).  you can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant.  What I remember is people stating: 1. it won't end well  2. he won't be reelected 3. It's likely he will resign or be impeached before his term is up.   I stand by all 3 of those, your mileage may vary.  I don't want Trump to resign anytime soon - I want the legal proceedings to continue (remember how long they took for Nixon?) and let Trump twist in the wind to wind up at the least leaving in disgrace.  Dismantling and disemboweling the RW nutter movement is an added bonus.

edit: the mantra from the Right?  You Lost! Losers.  0r so I remember.

I remember some similar stuff after Pres Obama's election. SO - do we continue to swing the pendulum ever wider, or actually try to get beyond partisanship and elect considerate adults to or government?   I think, though, that we need to change our public expectations somewhat so that those considerate adults might have a reason to run.

Wow, that sounds so much like Elections have consequences!

May I remind all again that we have been warned.

I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

His tax bill was a triumph for one set of companies over a different type of company, and one tiny set of people vs the vast majority.

When he follows up with SS and Medicare/Caid cuts, the deplorables will rejoice.

One of my favorite Trump stories which relates to boats took place about 15/20 years ago. He told the WSJ that he'd sold his yacht (Trump Princess, formerly Nabila) to bank of America when it had been foreclosed/repossessed because he could not make the payments.

I'll disagree on a couple of points. The corporate tax cut definitely had a positive effect on the stock market. I don't think anyone can rationally argue that. My problem is that it steals from future generations to accomplish it. Wealth transfer. Hopefully, I'll get some back through my 401k and IRA.

Working on opening up federal lands for additional access to exploit oil and minerals is an economic positive...Well, that's not quite right. It's a transfer of stored wealth from the people to real wealth for companies.

That said, in the short run, he has stimulated the economy. Sure, it's stealing from Peter to pay Paul but that's kind of Trump's MO. He can claim victory.

And who/what do you think that was due to?

The first years performance is sentiment and previous policy, within a year after policy goes into effect is when the trend starts developing, the actual widespread effects kick in a bit later.

There are exceptions to every rule... but BS is BS.

"They may have been phony in the past, but it's very real now."

  • In the last 72 years, Democratic administrations have created more than twice as many jobs as the Republicans even though both held office for 36 years.

But stock market success has fuck-all to do with the economic well being of the middle and lower classes. It's a sign the economy is ripping along for the wealthy, and little else, as it reflects more investor sentiment than long-term changes in corporate strategies or hiring plans.

So it's stimulated unbridled enthusiasm from those that stand to make LOTS and LOTS of money from deregulation and tax cuts. But done little or nothing for 99% of America.

The middle/lower class cuts in the plan are short-term eases - a couple of years, and NOT permanent. Unlike the cuts for the wealthy, which increase over time.

He claimed that his leadership was the cause of no commercial airline fatalities in 2017.  Of course he ignored the fact that there also were none in 2014, 2015, and 2016.  Hell, if he was a rooster he would claim that the sun rose in the morning because he crowed.

As for the market, we might not be there yet; but Alan Greenspan's observation about "irrational exuberance" comes to mind.

Pence may have a religious bent that is difficult to take but he is not a pathological liar, he is not impulsive, he doesn't get his feelings hurt like a 7 year old girl and he is not crazy. Pence would not seek to destroy the functionality of the government like Trump has.

Pence would be far better than Trump. If you had to pick a Republican I would much sooner have Romney or a cancer free McCain.

I'm middle class. I have Roth 401k and IRAs, and a humble stock portfolio. Here's the thing though...I won't be touching any of that for another 20 years. That's why I caged it by saying 'in the short run'. He can claim victory and be out of office by the time his house of cards falls down. Then he can claim that we miss him because we were Great under his administration. The best. Even if it burns down afterwords, people will be saying it.

But to claim corporate tax cuts have had no effect on markets is false. We all know it won't trickle down to the average Joe in the long run. Well, maybe not all of us realize that. But Trump can have his short run win. And really, what else matters to that guy?

Fake news....

"After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Cranston, DeConcini, and Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB's investigation of Lincoln Savings, with Cranston receiving a formal reprimand. Senators Glenn and McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised "poor judgment".
