skids under Sessions - next week I reckon

Recommended Posts

three bits of info

weekend meeting at camp david- everyone but Sessions is going

http://edition.cnn.com/2018/01/05/politics/jeff-sessions-camp-david-white-house/index.html

"according to a list released by the White House, eight other Trump Cabinet members, including Education Secretary Betsy Devos and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt, would be present for the gathering"

And Scott Pruit is standing on tiptoe waiting to be anointed as the new  attorney general

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/05/scott-pruitt-us-attorney-general-position-326373

EPA chief Pruitt is said to be eyeing attorney general job

Plus Trump has his fake news announcement on Monday...

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jan/05/quiz-donald-trump-most-dishonest-corrupt-media-awards

My guess is that Sessions is Toast, Pruitt will take the legal job, wield the hatchet, close down or hamstring the Mueller investigation

and most Americans will take to the forums to Tsk a little bit while they watch their democracy fall around their ears.

I reckon that Mueller has found that it is not just the trumpists who have been on the receiving end of Russian help - hence the panic among the old guard of the GOP - they also have a lot to lose from Mueller... and not just their seats.

It is going to be a fascinating week.

"Whether ours shall continue to be a government of laws and not of men is now for Congress and ultimately the American people."   Archibald Cox after President Nixon (R) had him fired.   Nixon is now a distant memory to those that remember him.  American history throughout my public education ran out of time and ended before the Vietnam War,   For years all I knew was from tv (a bunch of soldiers fought a rice war and came back crazy, than a President was fired for saying he wasn’t a crook.)   The reality to most Americans is this is unprecedented.   There may not be the outcry there was last time at such ‘fake news’.

I think that Trump is being backed into a an ever tighter corner. His only way out from under Mueller hammer is to sack Sessions, insert Pruitt,  Sack Mueller and put a puppet into head up the hamstrung investigation.

Will the republicans approve Pruitt?

Well lots of them are now gunning for Mueller

I am assuming that Mueller is uncovering some uncomfortable information about the close relationship between the RNA techie boys helping the Ukranians to target wobbly Dems.

Ronna Macdaniel is a died in the wool Trumpist and if Don and co were fucking with Russians she was too

The Republicans then have a hope of changing the narrative  by the mid terms....

The economy stupid.

Of course there may be honorouble republicans out there who will put the law above their own skins....

This woman is not a nice person and is tech savvy... just saying chaps

I had to google her

Found this

Trump requested that she stop using her maiden name, and McDaniel now does not use it in official communications.[10]

Wow.

Well, if Sessions goes out, maybe the pot thing will be dropped. That whole thing is some dumb ass stuff. How about some tax dollars selling it and put it in schools?

So stupid. The genie is out of the bottle you idiot and it'll just lead to the vandalizing of Trump's beautiful wall by drug traffickers.

When my Dad was dying of cancer, those pot pills got him to eat more and probably bought him 3 months once I told him to take them not right before dinner but like 2 hours beforehand. They worked. He was scared to take them b/c he thought he'd get addicted. 1: What does it matter? 2: You have a massive cache of opiates that you take.

Old people with old thoughts of reefer madness.

You read the part about, "When I was in sales", right?

Why do you think I'm no longer in sales?

It's been long enough so I think it's OK to tell this. I was in sales to major financial institutions for marketing and what's now called Big Data. I won't even get into the money you can make there.

So, the first hit was Morgan Stanley. They had a project called 'Pop's in the Box' which meant tracking down the kids in the trust so MS didn't lose the portfolio. That was pretty disgusting.

The 2nd was getting lent out to a client that wanted me to help open a new subprime channel for an unsaid company. A 6 month deal but stupid money. So, my boss loaned me out. I made a huge plan on how to walk people out of subprime and into unsecured credit.

It went the other way. It was to trap them into subprime secured credit cards and then sell them payday loans at 84x% APR. They didn't want my plan. They wanted my marketing knowledge.

I didn't last the 6 months and I quit sales for life.

Yeah, I spent a good part of my early years working in my father's jewelry store.  But we were honest and sales were low key.  My father retired and I worked a while for a national chain jewelry store and it was a little more intense but nothing terrible.  Then I went to sell insurance and investments for a big rock like insurance company. Studied hard, got all of my licenses, etc.  Holy shit, those people have no morals.  I was making good money but after 6 months I just couldn't do it.  No fucking way.  So I quit and was happy for it.  By the way, if you want to know why the premiums on a whole or universal life policy are so high, it is because the agents commission is 1/2 of the first years premium.  Talk about a front end load!  Sell 2 or 3 of those a week and you are in the high cotton.

at the presser Trump all but said he would sack Mueller - the reason he gave was that the investigation is an embarrassment to the USA. He wanted to save america from the shame of it all.  Stopping it by sacking Mueller on the other hand would not.

We have motive, we have rationale, we have stated willingness to do so.... and there on the stage we have those who can make it all go away for Nice Mr  Trump.

that had me scurrying to here

On the far-away island of Sala-ma-Sond,
Yertle the Turtle was king of the pond.
A nice little pond. It was clean. It was neat.
The water was warm. There was plenty to eat.
The turtles had everything turtles might need.
And they were all happy. Quite happy indeed.

They were... untill Yertle, the king of them all,
Decided the kingdom he ruled was too small.
"I'm ruler", said Yertle, "of all that I see.
But I don't see enough. That's the trouble with me.
With this stone for a throne, I look down on my pond
But I cannot look down on the places beyond.
This throne that I sit on is too, too low down.
It ought to be higher!" he said with a frown.
"If I could sit high, how much greater I'd be!
What a king! I'd be ruler of all that I see!"

I would find it likely if Nixon had not already gone down that road and it did not lead to a good place for him. The legacy is still with us, and it can be anticipated the reaction would quite significant. Sorta like leaving the toilet seat up...twice. The second time will not be as easy to survive as the first time was.

Trump is being preemptively warned from many quarters on this, McConnell is no rookie, he knows such a move could cost them both the Senate and the House, and this year too. It's an election year.

Would not be a bit surprised to find out the House and Senate "investigations" into the FBI are unserious. A gambit, a custom crafted pacifier for their squalling man-baby Trump. As long as Trump thinks he has support Trump may listen to them.

 Edit to add:

I'm going to re-read The Prince. That peerless documentary on how things are and how things must be done under capricious, unstable royalty.

What an outstanding cross section of America.

And the evident brain power.  That too is stunning.

We are obviously in very good hands.

Just need to weed out a couple of those gay ones, though.  For safety's sake.

In Texas... corrupt fucking Texas..   we have the “open meetings  act.”

If more than two politicians get together they must do so in public.

Simple rule occasionally it is even enforced
