Why did Trump pay $130,000 to silence a woman?

Recommended Posts

Let's help Melania out.  Based on Stormy receiving 130K for one night, and she's been married for say 12yrs (call it 4500 days for simplicity), then she should get 130,000 x 4500= 585 Million.  Anything less would be a travesty.

She may have made misleading statements on her initial immigration papers.  Trump owns ICE and Justice.   She would be a fool to piss him off publicly.     Or, if the lie is discovered later, USCIS can revoke (take away) a person's citizenship.

Nah. They Faithful would not be happy to hear their Messiah was harboring an illegal alien.

Heads would explode.

He paid $130,000, because she wouldn't take $129,999.

Simple really. He was enacting a deal, and got the best price that was available.....

He's the consummate deal breaker....... er..... Maker.

It’s the Daily Mail, but it’s believable.

Melania Trump has been spending nights at a posh D.C. HOTEL since the president was accused of having a fling with porn star Stormy Daniels - before the first lady unexpectedly flew to Palm Beach

She should track down Stormy.  Her girl/girl scenes are top flight.  The non disclosure agreement might make that a bit awkward, but Stormy prolly won't have much to say with a mouth full of hooah!

I bet Stormy Daniels has a career in stand-up after her Jimmy Kimmel interview.

So the reason for her sudden popularity is her alleged affair with The Donald.

She's come up to the line.  The NDA line.

What's going to make her cross it?

If she doesn't, isn't she just milking her 15 minutes?

This is not in anyway a defense of the orange buffon but its honestly no wonder this country is going to shit and our politics has been reduced to nothing more than tabloid gossip.  Do you guys even hear yourselves?  When the most pressing matter of the day is the state of a marriage between two people, for whatever reason, and you hyenas are licking your chops and gleefully pissing all over someone.  I would almost bet BL has his dick in his hand wanking at the idea that this will be some good political hay.

Irreglardless of what you think of the idiot in office, Melania didn't ask for this.  And last time I checked, banging a porn while a private citizen before being elected is not illegal.  How that affects their marriage now is not any of my business nor do I give a shit.  Its so sad that you all DO give a shit.  What's even worse is the mainstream press is eating this up.  Over in that other thread about why trust in the media is so low..... one needs only look here to see why.  Its nothing but tabloid fodder and it should be beneath supposed respected journalists to do nothing more than report that it happened and then move on to real news.  When these stories come out, the NYT and CNN are no worse than the national enquirer.  Does it really matter if Melania is pissed off and taking a time out?  Meh.

But hey, if the state of a marriage is the most important thing to you guys right now, fill yer boots.  Whatevs

So far, it's just more political symmetry.

You have a president (clinton/trump) who cheated on his wife (hillary/melania) with a consenting adult (intern/pornstar) who was initially denied the affair until evidence (dress/payoff) became painfully evident.  It's in our nature... as Gene Roddenberry so visually pointed out almost sixty year ago... which is why history may not repeat but it certainly does echo.

It’s the faux moral indignation shown by the Evangelicals that gets me.

If you want to fuck around on your spouse, that’s between the two of you.

I really don’t care - up until the point you claim some moral superiority. Then, I want to rub your nose in your own shit.

I'm gonna take issue with this. First of all, your diatribe is some sanctimonious shit, and ignores any sense of introspection that members of the GOP would do well to consider in the name of patriotism. This sort of emotion does not come to America in a vacuum... we've been fed myriad examples through the Bill O'Reillys, Steve Bannon and Roger Ailes over the years, and this is just chickens coming home to roost, my friend.

Secondly, Melania DID ask for a measure of this. She was no paragon of virtue before she met the Donald, and that I cannot allow my kids to Google the First Lady of America and click "Images" makes me embarrassed and disappointed in my country. Furthermore, she knew exactly what and who she was marrying. His track record in the press and with women was front & center in every newspaper in America.

Presidents and their families are an interesting topic, and the limits to how much the press will investigate or report on their actions is usually a topic on which we might agree. But in this instance, Donald Trump's relationships with his wives & women have ALWAYS been public fodder. That fact hasn't changed, so I say stuff your "holier than thou" act. And the Trumps' decision to install family members into our public governance further blurs the lines: their family is trying to rule our nation, and so their actions and relationships ARE the public business. They asked for it.

Fuck 'em.

Bill Maher Compares Melania Trump’s Marriage to the Holocaust

Yikes.

01.27.18

Quote

The First Lady of the United States, who, after over a dozen women came forward to accuse her husband of sexual harassment or assault, spent the first several months of his presidency several states away from him, and who allegedly never wanted the elaborately coiffed ex-reality TV host to be POTUS in the first place, recently chose to skip a planned trip to Davos after numerous reports emerged that President Trump had engaged in a nauseating, Forbes-spanking, hush money-paying affair with porn star Stormy Daniels just after she’d given birth to their son Barron.

Melania’s absence from the glamorous, star-studded summit in the wake of the Stormy stories seems, at least to us outside observers, like yet another example of her apparent disdain for the commander-in-chief.

On Friday evening, while discussing the government shutdown during his opening monologue, Real Time host Bill Maher addressed the president’s not-so-rosy marriage, which he called “more valuable to him as an idea than as a reality.”

“It was their anniversary this week—their 13th anniversary—and of course Trump said the wrong thing: ‘Thirteen years together. I would buy you all over again,’” cracked Maher. “No, he didn’t. Actually, it’s sadder than that: they didn’t say anything. They didn’t have dinner, no tweets back and forth about that, nothing. And Melania was supposed to go to Davos with him but at the last minute didn’t. They said ‘scheduling and logistical reasons.’ Yeah, that’s bureaucrat talk for, ‘Why don’t you take the porn star you were fucking?’”

I agree with philly on point 1- Jeff's quoted post is a good example of Repubs being two-faced hypocritical assholes; but I disagree on point 2, that Melania should be fair game (up to a point).

First of all, there's a principle involved. Is this politics or is this just attention-whoring for influence (and potentially, votes)? Shameless blatant attention-whoring is appropriate for selling diet soda, less so for choosing leadership even at the level of a neighborhood bake sale committee. For the whole country? I think somebody who insults an opponent's family for anything other than that family member's political activities is being an asshole.

The first such incident I remember myself is a few Democrats insulting Patricia Nixon for wearing too much make-up. And IMHO she -did- wear too much make-up but that's a matter of taste and completely irrelevant and an asshole thing to say about another mans' wife no matter what the circumstances. I unknowingly had about three decades of batchelorhood before me, but I thought at the time 'If somebody said that about my wife, I'd punch him in the nose.'

Unless she's doing something directly political, Melania is out of bounds. Going there is dirty. I feel sorry for her on many levels even though she knew what she was signing up for (and she wasn't signing up for FLOTUS).

Well, if I have in fact misinterpreted what you said, then I apologize.

I don't study these threads like a physics text, but I'm also not a mind reader. It looked very much to me like you were calling Melania's critics assholes (which I agree with) and while not exactly at the same time, you've jumped on the bandwagon yourself calling family members ugly names.

I have no idea what you really think, I can only go by what you write in posting here. And that mostly follows the Rush/Hannity/Trump/Repub party line no matter how much you protest that you're an independent thinker.

Now his lawyer is saying he paid it out of his own pocket and Trump had nothing to do with it and never paid him back in any way.  Sure thing pal, we believe that.  Seems if it was any other way they are going to be running afoul of election laws.

According to MacLean, there is a connection between autism and libertarianism, and that connection is not feeling "solidarity or empathy," and having "kind of difficult human relationships sometimes." The implication is that libertarianism is similarly cold and unfeeling, and attracts people who don't care about others

Brilliant businessmen and their high-powered legal teams are not what they claim to be if their answer to a false allegation is to create a secret holding company to pay $130,000 to an adult film star in exchange for her denial she and the President had sex while his 3rd wife was home taking care of their newborn son.

This scenario is so far away from being able to pass any reasonable "believability" test I am surprised anyone would risk looking like a total looser (yes, I intentionally misspelled that, @mad and @Sean) in attempting to defend it.

It just have taken a pretty good reason to actually admit a payment occurred.

I wonder if that isn't a breach of some sort of the original shush agreement that might allow her to speak?

When a photo of Stormy flashed on the tube last night my wife let out a "whooo". I don't ever recall her commenting on appendages before.

Trump's lawyer isn't the best and the brightest after all.

Cohen says Trump campaign was not "a party to the transaction." But that's not the law. If $130k hush money payment to Stormy Daniels was made "in cooperation, consultation or concert with, or at the request or suggestion of, a candidate’s campaign," it violated fed election law. https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/963752221371494400

REMINDER: John Edwards was indicted for his attorney/friend paying $200K in Rielle Hunter's expenses

REMINDER:

John Edwards was indicted for his attorney/friend (Fred Baron) paying $200K in Rielle Hunter's expenses in order to get her to cover up an affair during his presidential campaign.

And importantly, although he was never convicted, he also wasn't acquitted either. It was declared a mistrial. The case against Trump is significantly stronger than the one against Edwards.

Now his lawyer is saying he paid it out of his own pocket and Trump had nothing to do with it and never paid him back in any way.  Sure thing pal, we believe that.  Seems if it was any other way they are going to be running afoul of election laws.

No, he is saying he "facilitated" the payment, and wasn't reimbursed by the Trump Campaign. According to the reason.com link:

To "facilitate", the dictionary tells us, means to assist with or to make something easier. Given that, I would think that the most literal reading of Cohen's statement is just that he used his own funds to arrange the payment. He's not making any statement about whose $130,000 was paid. For example, if it took Cohen a few hundred dollars to set up an entity to pay Daniels, and to wire someone else's $130,000 to her, then he would have been using his own personal funds to faciltate that payment. Sending on the money would be a transaction between two parties, Daniels and the entity Cohen set up, and there would have been no need to reimburse Cohen $130,000 because it wasn't Cohen's money that was sent.

Of course, there are other ways to read Cohen's statement. There are enough ambiguities in it to drive a truck through. Maybe Trump just wrote a personal check to Cohen. Cohen was reimbursed, but not from Trump's "organization" or "campaign." At this point, we don't know. And of course we also don't know if what Cohen is now saying is literally true. Cohen's "reputation for having a character for truthfulness," to use an evidence law phrase, is lousy. But I just thought it worth pointing out that Cohen doesn't even claim that he paid the $130,000 out of his own pocket, which is what the press seems to be reporting.

Millions of Americans Demand $130,000 for Not Having Sex with Trump

Quote

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Millions of Americans on Wednesday demanded that Donald J. Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, issue them checks in the amount of $130,000 for not having sex with Trump.

After Cohen revealed that he had issued such a check to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who he claims never had intimate relations with his client, there was widespread outrage among other Americans who had also not had sex with Trump but had not been paid for not doing so.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for Stormy Daniels,” Tracy Klugian, a florist in Santa Rosa, California, said. “I just want my check, too.”

Harland Dorrinson, a bank teller in Akron, Ohio, said that he had already e-mailed Cohen to demand payment. “I have never come close to having sex with Trump, and that should be worth something,” he said. “Specifically, $130,000.”

But, even as millions of Americans clamored to be compensated for abstaining from sex with Cohen’s client, others, like Carol Foyler, of Tallahassee, Florida, took a different view. “Never having sex with Donald Trump should be a reward in itself,” she said.

The birth of a bestseller? I hope so.

Porn star who alleged Trump affair: I can now tell my story

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — Stormy Daniels, the pornography star whom President Donald Trump’s personal attorney acknowledged paying $130,000 just before Election Day, believes she is now free to discuss her alleged sexual encounter with Trump, her manager told The Associated Press Wednesday.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, believes that Trump attorney Michael Cohen invalidated a non-disclosure agreement after two news stories were published Tuesday: One, in which Cohen told The New York Times that he made the six-figure payment with his personal funds, and another in the Daily Beast, which reported that Cohen was shopping a book proposal that would touch on Daniels’ story, said the manager, Gina Rodriguez.

“Everything is off now, and Stormy is going to tell her story,” Rodriguez said.

Daniels first detailed her account of an alleged extramarital affair with Trump in 2011, when the celebrity website The Dirty published it but then removed the material under the threat of a lawsuit, according to the site’s founder, Nik Richie.

This will be a big nothing-burger.

She will tell the story and provide evidence to corroborate her allegations.

He will deny everything.

The Faithful will remain loyal.

Remember, the "gellies" already gave him a Mulligan for sinking this putt.

She's got to have been shopping her story and a network lawyer figured out an out. This is one classy white house.

Maybe her lawyer paid his lawyer back that $130K to say that - a tattle book deal has to be worth more than that.

He is the savior of the abortion argument and will make sure the court is stacked and changes the law. That takes precedence over anything including morals.

Simple - abortion.

It's the only thing that matters to the right wing sky pilots. They think Trump and his gang will get Roe V Wade reversed.

Stormy and her lawyer say Cohen broke the confidentiality agreement, that she is now free to speak about the one year affair.

While I understand your, and BadLat's, position, abortion is a moral issue.  Maybe it is the one issue with which they agree with him.

But, only as long as he holds that position.

One of the things we absolutely know about President Trump is his complete inability/unwillingness to remain steadfast in any way.

I guess the folks who see him as the savior of their anti-choice beliefs is rooted in denial that he will abandon him when a different position will make him look better.

It is impossible to reason with people like that.
