FBI too busy chasing fake dossiers

Recommended Posts

Last fall, a Mississippi bail bondsman and frequent YouTube vlogger noticed an alarming comment left on one of his videos. "I'm going to be a professional school shooter," said a user named Nikolas Cruz.

The YouTuber, 36-year-old Ben Bennight, alerted the FBI, emailing a screenshot of the comment and calling the bureau's Mississippi field office. He also flagged the comment to YouTube, which removed it from the video.

Agents with the bureau's Mississippi field office got back to him "immediately," Bennight said, and conducted an in-person interview the following day, on Sept. 25.

"They came to my office the next morning and asked me if I knew anything about the person," Bennight told BuzzFeed News. "I didn't. They took a copy of the screenshot and that was the last I heard from them."

A dossier is fake if and when Mueller says it's fake. I suspect you will be disappointed.

You know what, I think that bit might be true. I've dismissed it until recently, but it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch any more. Putin's got something on Trump......

The FBI failed to stop a top 10 school murderer, so he had to be arrested by local police after the fact.    Therefore the fact they are only now investigating trump means they are overzealous?   Non seqetur.

If you want to Monday Morning Quarterback, Google the Phoenix Memo. At over 3,000 dead you'll get more bang for your buck.

Summarised:

  • The FBI were notified and immediately contacted the vlogger.
  • The FBI followed up with an interview the next day to determine if there was anything more they could get from the vlogger
  • Having determined there was nothing more the man could offer, the FBI didn't waste their time talking to him further

Happy Jack seems to think immediate follow-up and a next day, in-person interview indicates the FBI are "too busy". He must really be pissing his pants about Trump's affect on the midterms if the crap he's slinging is this weak.

Laugh it off all you want but established protocol would have been to send information on the tip to the FBI Miami field office. They failed to do that. People died.

Not excusing but if they HAD followed up, what would they have done?

Not 5 minutes ago, I told my wife that this would become the squirrel that kills the discussion. "FBI screws up" becomes the topic rather than the school shooting, just like "Air Force screws up" last time.

Let's keep our eyes on the ball, too many mass shootings.

Impossible to play what could they have changed if they did their job.

Easier to predict what they can change when they don't do their job.

Enforcing existing law and paying attention is part of the solution.

You're mixing up up 2 different stories, about 2 different tips.

Jack's post is about a youtube comment, 5 months ago.  The FBI investigated but weren't able to figure out who owned the (by then, deleted) account.

You're talking about a phone call to the FBI tipline, by an acquaintance of Cruz's, just last month.

I heard that they failed to forward the tip to the Miami office for followup. The FBI is already admitting they dropped the ball. Maybe the senior people at the FBI should be less concerned with "Insurance policies" against a Trump presidency and more with what they were created to monitor. But I guess Mueller, Comey, Strzok, Ohr, Obama and Lynch thought playing politics was a better use of their time.

Exactly! The FBI could devote more time to chasing down gunnuttrz if only politicians and businesspersons would behave like the civilized professionals they pretend to be. If these genius billionaires were truly successful people they wouldn't need to work with spies, gangsters and money launderers. That would free up hundreds of FBI agents that are presently sifting thru accounting records.

Also, the FBI is budget starved. The FBI budget is miniscule given their task. A tiny fraction of what the WALL costs. Zero compared to buying "security" in Syria, Iraq, Afganistan...etc. I don't suppose Trumps budget give a big boost to the FBI agents???

Yeah 9 billion and 33,533 employees (12,484 special agents, 2,950 intelligence analysts, and 18,099 professional staff) is peanuts.

If I'm not mistaken Trump has asked for something like 20 billion over 10 years.   Claire McCaskill, who is hardly neutral can only spin it to a worst case of 67 billion..

So lets fact check your post (you misspelled minuscule and Afghanistan)

"The FBI budget is miniscule {sic} given their task. A tiny fraction of what the WALL costs."

9 billion time 10 years = 90 billion for FBI

Using Claire's very fair number of 67 billion, in what fantasy is 90 billion a "Tiny Fraction of "  67 billion?

You forgot the 10,000 ICE agents Trump wants. Ya know, the people to collect all the Home Depot 32 foot ladders and shovel dirt into the hundreds of new tunnels? And inevitable cost overruns...it does not look like those Texas ranchers are going to quietly sit down. Yeah, maybe I got the numbers a bit wrong. The remarkable thing is that the numbers are even comparable. The FBI's responsibility is far more important than the ineffective wall will ever be. Afghanistan is what $90 BILLION per year? For what? Protecting our school kids from grumpy Afghanistan rebels? My point is that the FBI could do with a bit more money given all the home grown Bad Hombres here.

The Israelis love their wall and the Sinai fence has worked well too.

They are even building one underground

The £500 million subterranean concrete barrier will run for 40 miles along the entire Israeli-Gaza border and is the first underground border wall of its kind in the world.

It is intended to prevent Hamas and other Islamist militant groups from using tunnels to launch surprise attacks into southern Israel.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have destroyed three tunnels which infiltrated into Israel from Gaza in the last three months. A senior IDF official said he was confident that once the barrier was complete, tunnels would no longer pose a threat. “That will be it,” he said.

The barrier is expected to be completed within two years, officials said, and less than three miles have been finished so far. Underground sensors will help to detect any future tunnels while a 9-meter tall fence will prevent crossings overground. Israeli officials refused to say how deep the wall would go but it is believed to be up to 100 meters below ground in some places.

If they can build 40 miles of underground wall for less than a billion I think we can build an above ground one for a fair price unless the Democrats get involved.

No-one trusts you to be honest about "what you heard", let alone "who you heard it from". What "you heard" is irrelevant.

You can tell the honest ones from the dishonest ones by the reasons they make up for the FBI. FBI agents on the ground in Florida have nothing to do with the investigation into Trump. Mueller, Comey, Strzok, Ohr, Obama and Lynch were not involved in the decision or even priority allocation of FBI agents on the ground in Florida. Jack's obsession with Trump is getting in the way of his trolling about school shootings.
