Kite Foils Repair

Recommended Posts

Ola amigos,

so a friend tangled the foil in the lines of the kite... And I guess this is a common fix to do amongst sharp carbon foils users (see pictures).

So, what do you suggest? Resin, microballs, black pigment and fill and repeat the process once it falls out or is there better fix for same value?

Cheers,

M26

WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin 205 Hardener, 502 Black pigment, and 406 colloidal silica - that should do the trick as materials go - it will be a pain in the ass to sand, so try and get it as much to shape as possible - then wet sand to the desired surface finish.

Give the repair at least a little bevel first with some sandpaper.

Buy some Mylar sheet.  Should add 1-2$ to the project. Tape a small square either side of it before the repair, opposite the leading edge on both sides.  Fill repair, flip it into place, tape other edges.  Lightly roll out with something round(literally anything will work). Gives a nice smooth surface to the repair and let's you use better resin to filler ratio.  May need to wax Mylar for epoxy.  I use it with poly/gelcoat repairs.
