For the KIWIS amongst us.

Just popped up om Gumtree for sale.

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bayview/sail-boats/yacht-for-sale-20000/1183429439

Pathfinder all done and the owner posts here.

Rainbow 2 all done and sailing in Auckland

Runaway should have it's turn.

For those with no sense of history those 3 boats finished 1,2 and 3 in the 1971 Hobart heralding the emergence of Kiwi ocean racing overseas.

I am out as I have my own little classic S&S restoration going on right now.

(I wouldn’t be surprised if Lidgard designed her himself.)

Loaction: Darwin? “Tell ‘em he’s dreaming!”

Great boat, I have many miles on her.  She could be more cruiser friendly with a different coach house though.

Agree, sorry, although the CYCA record does not list Wai-aniwa as a competitor in 1971 but that must be wrong.

In any event I understand Wai- aniwa is still going strong in NZ.

Waianawa is in Wellington, Rainbow II  came back here a couple or 3 years ago for a rebuild and she lives in Auckland , Kishmul just got sold to Australia but is still here. Young Nick is about  somewhere , AKL I think.

I was a kid in '71 so although I remember the races and the end result I didn't follow the trials much . But I talked to a crew member  who was today . My impression of Runaway ( probably from some article I read) was she was very competitive, fast,  but  didn't get worked up in time . He said that sounded right , but they crashed into her in a  race , which they were sorry for . .that may have meant something too. He would have been on Moonlight if I have the year right. (?)
