The national news outlets have a countdown clock going each morning. All the “journalists” are positively giddy about heading over there. I don’t know anybody who cares.....except the “media”......they care....a lot.

Sandstorm today.

But yes - a slow death by overheating and dehydration preferable to Royal Wedding fever!

I'm reasonably caught up on current events, and I have no idea who is getting married in the British castle system thing ... so yeah, the news hasn't permeated general awareness in my type of sphere.

I assume it's one of the sons of Princess Diana getting hitched to some various skirt-du-jour. Is it the son who once showed up at a Halloween party in a Nazi officers kit? That's the only detail that I remember from that family.

The entire Royal family needs a little Pulp Fiction in their life. I think The Gimp would be a wonderful wedding present, he also gets to take a turn on the Queen, and really goes to town on Prince Charles.

Yeah, I'm glad I decided to work from home today.  Vis is total dogshit!  I'm glad I flew back from Canada last night and not today.

SWMBO is not royals obsessed, but she does know all the names and details.  I get the "stupid American" look from her if I get one of the royal family names wrong in discussion.  Harry, Andrew, Kate...... who the fuck cares?  It really no worse though than American's obsession with movie stars and other "celebs" like the karcrashians.

For all the perceived obsessions with them and their lives, I’m struggling to find anyone in the UK who admits to giving a flying fuck about it all.

Gotta admit, Markle is easier on the eyes than, say, POTUS etc. (including, IMO, the various associated women) the US news outlets are probably relieved for the break from the shithole US govt.

My wife has already set a few alarms for that morning to make certain she doesn't miss in on the Beebs. She is a big royalist and was quite upset when the EU passport dropped the phrase "Royal Subject" in favor of UK Citizen.  The crown is mostly symbolic now but nothing shouts so  loud as YES ENGLAND than The House of Windsor and nothing defines The Royals like Royal Nuptials.

Best of luck to Carrot Top and The Gold Digger!

The whole Royal thing is pretty tedious but this one is fun because of the changes it indicates.

Think about it - when Chuck married Di it was still mandatory that she be a virgin member of the aristicracy.

Now his son is marrying a 1/2 black, divorced colonial.

Hey, there is always a silver lining in any dark cloud.  For example, we can rejoice in the fact that they didn't dip out of the very shallow end of the inbred European royal gene pool and got some fresh stock in the bloodline.  See how easy that was?

Apart from his little Nazi uniform episode, he appears to be a pretty good guy.

End of the day, he didn’t get to choose his lineage or the publicity it gets.

Funny how the redhead turned out to be the best looking guy in the family.

His brother was an incredibly beautiful boy but he turned into just another male pattern baldness Windsor in his 20's.

But those old rules changed after the Diana fiasco. I doubt anyone thinks Kate was a virgin. Nor was she an aristocrat although her family had a bit of money.

They get to marry for love now, just like real people, not to preserve some dynastic connection,

Yeah, I thought the same.  Poor Wills, but he will probably be the king after his father dies.  Harry will just keep on partying at least until the babies start coming.  Sometimes it best to be second.

Stephen Colbert is the youngest of a whole bunch of siblings.  So the studies that show the eldest is more often the most successful, do not apply to all families.

That's true.  In my own family my older sister, and my twin (fraternal) brother is technically the youngest, and are both very successful in terms of stable life, careers, and money (millions) and I am the middle child and the black sheep.  But I have had the most interesting life by far and I consider that success as well.

Yeah ,that was queen Victoria, born in Coburg Castle in Saxony and often referred to as the mother of Europe because either her offspring or their spouses were the rulers of all of the major parties during WW I.  The king of England called Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany cousin WIllie!  The house of Windsor (the current royal family) were originally the house of Hanover until the locals were rumbling as to why their royals had a German name, and Germans were the enemy.  So they ginned up some story and invented a new family tree and became the house of Windsor, so much more British, eh?  Bunch of crooked teeth, inbred hypocrites if you ask me.

Family squabbles were the real underlying cause of WW 1.

Cousin Willie wanted respect from the rest of the family but wasn't getting it because he was such a loutish Kraut.

20,000,000 or so died because of it.

Most wars were started for similar reasons, humans are pretty stupid.  And of course if it wasn't for the idiocy of WW I, WW II wouldn't have happened, so there's that.

The Royalty thing can induce mass hysteria.

Remember when Diana died? Mass insanity. People reacted more strongly than if their own child died.

Yeah, I wandered into my sailing club for lunch yesterday forgetting it was the big wedding day and ran into the "Royal Wedding party" gala.  Holy shit!  So I sat and had lunch just in time for Meghan to get out of the Rolls and walk into the chapel.  I stayed until the fiery American preacher was halfway through his spiel.  I couldn't take it anymore.  I was amused at how all the brits there were hanging on every move and how people in the church reacted - who was smiling, who was not etc.  In fairness it was mainly the older brit women doing that, the guys were all mostly there as an excuse to drink in the early afternoon.  Not that we really need any excuses to drink at the club.

I did think the preacher man was WAAAY over the top for the venue.  I don't think the Queen was amused, and a lot in the audience were thinking STFU already.  The gospel choir singing "Stand by me" was amazing though.  Absolutely stunning!
