wire for solar installation

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have recommendations for wire for a solar panel installation.  I see lots of flat duplex wire but not sure how well it holds up in terms of UV.  I have seen cheaper wire that is marketed as PV wire that is round and claims to be tinned and rated for direct burial.  Would that work in a marine environment?  Is it better to use two separate wires or a duplex wire in terms of running the wire?  Any shared experiences would be appreciated

You want the round wire with the UV resistant insulation. Don't buy the cheap stuff, especially if it has MC4 connectors. Renogy brand is probably the cheapest that's still reasonable quality.

I used tinned duplex 12g marine wire for the short runs that are above deck. They are shaded by the panels and are each only about 2' long and easy to replace, so I'm not too concerned about UV.20180613_182541.jpg.6e155dfe42acfe2004de7d883de7fb1c.jpg
