Trump's wargames blindside 'bad news for Australia'

John Blaxland, Professor of International Security and Intelligence Studies and director of ANU's Southeast Asia Institute told 9news.com.au the new agreement raised serious concerns for Australia.

"There are many questions raised by this new agreement," Prof Blaxland said.

"If it is followed through, then the ramifications are profound. A US diplomatic presence in North Korea, should it come to pass, would see pressure for Australia to follow suit and open an embassy there."

He said the cessation of US-war games with South Korea will also likely affect Australian military exercises with the South Koreans, as well as our engagement with US forces operating in and around the Korean peninsula.

Prof Blaxland warned Mr Trump may be setting us all up for heartbreak and disappointment, if not outright war, by reducing the American presence and obligation on the peninsula.

There are usually two sets of exercises every year, in spring and autumn, involving a massive number of troops and military hardware.

Both involve land, sea and air military drills and computer simulations. In recent years, they have also involved practice drills for terror and chemical attacks.

Strange, I didn't think the US helped Australia in any way. At least that's what I've heard around here

ironic too, Aussies clamoring for Americans and their guns.

Or, they knew Trump would do it, as part of the requirements for the Chinese loans backing Trump investments...
