VOR Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague

So do the Western boats get an position update on the hour? That will be the first time they see DF for 6 hours! That will put their hearts in their mouths! They probably think the lack of helicopter is that it is following the leader in the other pack!

Is there any heli coverage?

Is my tracker off? As I measure it on the VOR 2d tracker Mapfre needs to clear the top of an exclusion zone and will then have a fairly  miserable angle to the next mark. Dongfeng with about 7 miles more to sail (32 vs 25).

The west boats will start to get the advantage of the current DF is gaining on as soon as they clear, so it isn't as miserable as it looks at first sight. Perhaps just a little upset.

30 miles to go let'say 2 and a half hour till finish need at least an hour lets call it 3 hour hover and an hour flight in and out don't expect a chopper before we're down to 10 miles or so and who should it cover anyway..?

Then Mapfre must be less sleep deprived than the rest because they are making call after call.

Blitzing it for the last couple of hours. This is a "who are the toughest bunch of cookies" show from now on in. They are all fucked.

All three boats have terrible VMG, could these 3 match racing each other give DF the opportunity they need.

That is what I was wondering.

Btw I just walked out to get the paper and made a cup of coffee and came back to 44 new posts!

Its an ocean race, less gybes is better... boat speed is paramount.. the match racing should wait till they have Dong Feng covered.

By the latest update, 7 oclock UTC, they probably tought - like so many others - that DF was all covered. Surprice waiting in 3 minutes! B)

Assuming this is the optimum angle for the Western boats they will have to make a fairly big gybe South still. Very rough estimate: 7 miles leg South. DTL Dongfeng: 7 miles. Speeds: similar.

Can someone who knows what the hell they're talking about give me a realistic approximation of DF vs MF/AKZO/BR

I can tell that I think it is going to be very close. But whether I fulfill the "knows what he is talking about" criterion?

The Dong is good providing they wind up that big wind farm on the stb bow in reverse ...it seems the Chinese funded the sucker.

Bloody good idea!! You can never have enough rum...where did the rum go?...blah blah blah.

Daily Live finishing!!! WTF??? Just give a live commentary on the 3D tracker.

Re my call re DFRT - Conrad said the real difference between the west pack and DFRT is 2nm not 7nm.

DF still 7.2m behind. Surely not enough even if the W boats need to gybe twice?

Right but the distant measure for the west boats is straight ddw at the mark. VMC will always be lower.

Dist/VMG gives it to DF, but there's always the last few miles into the shore!

Just watch the picture: MF and DF are on crossing lines (ignore the wind farm). With same speed, which boat will hit the cross first? .... I bet on DF, but very close!

Options for Brunel seem limited, can maybe make a move in last few miles if Mapfre choses to cover DF.

Not looking good. Mapfre getting more pressure first and separation increasing.   45,000 miles and one delayed gybe :(

Hattrick for Kane makes it 6:0, now if Brunel could just do something, like gybe early maybe?

Do he is now tied with Ronaldo for goals for this tourney?

That's not how that works.

If they thought they didn't have Dong I would have gybed if I was MF, don't take the cross.

It's looking like a lock for Dongfeng.  Bad angles and more Gybes for Mapfre.  Letting Dongfeng go while they had the lead will hurt.

May be they don't realise, a gybe fest between Mapfre and Brunel while DF sneaks in front would be fun for us DF fans!

Pascal amazes me, I don't think that they would have beaten the others on pure speed and his call to go East was spot on. I felt that Pascal wasn't up to his past standards during this race but this one was a master stroke.

Dongfeng   enjoys delta V of well over 4 Kts, and the western boats still have to gybe  till then they make as good as no progress towards NAM22..

Excuse the thread drift.

Out on a navy hydrgraphic vessel, to meet our heroes. Not sure which heroes exactly yet. Cloggies are looking a bit depressed, also because ship is dry...
