VOR Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague

Recommended Posts

I really wonder why the western fleet obviously prefer to do their SB tacks as far from coast as they do?

The sooner they get close to the coast, the less they will suffer the head current.

Mapfre gybes......constant bearing with DF......closer and closer.....its not clear who will cross who.......its very close.....Mapfre rounds up to try and take DF's stern....oh no, a collision.....and Brunel goes on to take it all.

Okay, now I'm getting pissed off. Brunel lost out in Newport, then lost the lead here, and now will not initiate the only thing they can try, which is a gybing competition with Mapfre.

I have read the entire thread, DA. I was just responding to another poster's question with a statement from the VOR website.

I am done with this issue. It raises my blood pressure.

Not only that but port tack would have kept them in the better breese longer too. Obviously they haven't been sailing their home waters long enough.

Not shitting in anyones pocket but my own, we seem to have better info than the gurus at this point in time, unless of course someone wrapped the AIS in tin foil..........

actually current is running the other way already, which would explain why they stay out.

I believe they are pretty well informed about the current direction !?

Then why the h...! do they go south off shore, where the current is strongest?

Notwithstanding what ever the outcome is Pascal's choice of dancing down the inside alone and making that choice when as a lead boat is quite breathtaking.

Maybe now - but it was clear on the previuos two tacks, that SB was slower than BB, because of head current.

TTOP might even be ahead of Vestas here. That gets them into 6th overall. If they don't get past Vestas then they finish 7th overall due to in-port. Now that's got to drive Dee & crew onboard TTOP.

Good on DF, they will win theirs by being French offshore sailors - doing the homework, picking their route and sticking to their guns, same thing as leg 1 their first lap of the planet.

Lots to cheer for here and that is exactly what the race needed.

fighting for eyes against the World Cup, and a f1 race in France, will be interesting to see what suare of eyes they end up with

I can't believe when I first got attached to this race following it involved buying a bunch of newspapers every Saturday morning  hoping the race was mentioned. The detail finally came out in sailing magazines a month or so later.

Now we watch it live. Fuck.
