Synthetic Backstay Chafing Damage

Recommended Posts

I have just installed new carbon sails that use a synthetic backstay with a “flicker” to pull the backstay clear of the roach during a tack.  Despite my best efforts .... there are times that the backstay is not released correctly and the roach will chaff the backstay.  I’m thinking of putting some Harkin Chaff Protectors on the Backstay where the battens touch.  Any suggestions on the best way to anchor the protectors.  It’s not the same as using a few zip ties and some tape on a stainless steel stay.

Cover the spots where the battens will contact the backstay and the spot where the backstay rides on the flicker ferrule with this:

Very tough stuff if you aren't familiar with it.
