Gun store owner flushes a turd.

“I’m looking at the producer and I’m just like am I being fooled right here?” Sweidan said. “And I just kept looking at the guy and I was like you’re Borat, as soon as I said that his eyes just looked at me like, and he did a turn right out the door.”

He says after Cohen left the store, he left his crew behind.

Ask jiblets - he's the one who brought her in to the conversation.   I'm saying some people got punked by someone who's quite good at it, some realized it and laughted about it, some got pissed, and some caught on before letting themselves get punked.   That's all that this whole thing is - and trying to assign more import to it than that is silly.

Maybe you can share where and when.

Couple points,

1) Joe Walsh thought he was talking about a program that might be brought to America. ". . . it was, I guess, an example of how Israel trains and arms preschool kids on how to use firearms and boy shouldn't we do that in American." --Joe Walsh defending himself in a CNN interview.

2) People can be punked into thinking someone just stole their car, and they can be punked into thinking they're being awarded the medal of being awesomely awesome, but can people really be punked into giving a whole speech promoting military training for little kids on TV?

"The intensive three week Kinderguardians course introduces specially selected children, from twelve to four years old, to pistols, rifles, semi-automatics, and a rudimentary knowledge of mortars. In less than a month--less than a month--a first-grader can become a first-grenader." --Joe Walsh on Who is America?

I'd like to ask Joe what a rudimentary knowledge of mortars includes? And, what is a "first-grenader"? Is that the grade level of the grenader, or does that mean they run in and throw their grenades first since they are fast, agile, little kids darting around and harder for snipers to shoot? And what if you have kids interested in Molotov cocktails? What are they supposed to do?

Maybe Joe actually said kids would be introduced to crystals, waffles, semi-acrobatics, and a rudimentary knowledge of snorters?

Not a particular fan of Cohen but beyond that, why are basically all the funny people on the left side of the aisle (or isle if you prefer)? If you lack a sense of humour does it mean you are drawn to the right where everything exists in a humourless miasma? Or do righties start with a sense of humour which degrades as one exists on the right?

John Fugelsang has a good explanation here.

Ask Cohen - he wrote the script for the teleprompter.  It's funny to see so many of you trying so hard to twist this into more than it is - I've got a few ideas about how far y'all will go - but, I'm gonna just sit back and smile and see if my guess is right.

I'd say most mainstream comics in the US are middle of the road, not "liberal". Conservatives in the US aren't funny because the movement is so mired in its victimhood, so extreme in it's culture warring there's no time for jokes that aren't one-liners about liberals. I think that the bigger point is that politicians will  say what they think someone wants to hear right now, often w/out thinking thru anything.  In this particular case?  i think the likely scenario is that they saw some political benefit to making a statement that they thought wouldn't be heard here, (in the case of Walsh - he was told he was bbeing given an award for his Israel advocacy), and that those statements don't reflect any intention.

I could be wrong, but, that's how I see it, and think that that should advise us all to be quite skeptical of most things that come out of politicians' mouths.

I agree that the people involved were thinking about the money more than the message.

Read up, the point where Mismoyled invoked Hilliary.

Back to the point, are those reactions deemed normal in your mind?   Would you endorse any of the reactions? Rape in marriage for example? We can deal with the fluffy guns later.

First they were tricked, then the teleprompter did it, now they were just kidding. Like I said, believe what you want.

Here's some science for you:

“Children under five also have elevated levels of the pheromone Blink-182, produced by the part of the liver known as the Rita Ora. This allows nerve reflexes to travel along the Cardi B neural pathway to the Wiz Khalifa 40% faster, saving time and saving lives.”

You're still funny - and yeah - you're right - all those things DID happen in this instance - they were tricked ( most of 'em - to inclde Bernie) into participating, what they read WAS off the teleprompter, and it IS a comedy skit - just like Borat.   "Believe what I want"?  As though this isn't what happened?

Do you think any of the guys reading the teleprompter have any idea that Blink182 is a band?  have any idea at all who Wiz Khalifa is? Have touched themselves to pics of Rita Ora?  Gimme a fuggin break -

Science?  You're the guy who's trying to infer serious meaning and sinister intent where it doesn't exist.  Cohen did what he does well - presents the absurd in a manner that gets gullible people to go along with him while he captures the absurdity on film.

Why are you trying so hard to paint this as something more than it is?

Believe what you will. These guys are reptiles who agreed to promote a program arming kindergartners. But god it was incredibly funny to watch them argue for it. You think Larry knows what an owl is?

“The science behind this program is proven. At age 4, a child processes images 80% faster than an adult, meaning that essentially, like owls, they can see in slow motion."  – Gun Owners of America Executive Director Emeritus Larry Pratt

How do you "trick" someone into endorsing arming 3 year olds with plush guns to make bad men take a long timeout?  This is your tribe.  Are you as stupid as your leadership?  You should reconsider your allegiances.

I think Ed's onto something. Once a subject becomes part of TeamR and/or TeamD tribal identity, stupidity will follow.

And gun control is definitely in that category, so you can get one team to say most any pro-gun thing and the other to say most any anti-gun thing. As in, plush animal guns for kids from TeamR and banning this because it's "like an M16" from TeamD.

Promoting arming kindergartners on the one hand and promoting banning semi-auto rifles designed for war on the other is your spectrum? The stupidity is leaning pretty far to the right there Tom.

I was specifically referencing banning assault weapons like this .22 in the pic below.

Do you think it's a "semi-auto rifle designed for war"?

I think that's BS right after the semi-auto part.

promoting arming little kids is a whole lot worse than just BS, but i personally don't lump your handgun into the M16 category.

The part of my shopping list related to handguns says this:

(36) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ means any of the following, regardless of country of manufacture or caliber of ammunition accepted:

(D) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any 1 of the following:

(i) A threaded barrel.

(ii) A second pistol grip.

(iii) A barrel shroud.

(iv) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

(v) A semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.

It's an assault weapon because of the threaded barrel.

My wife's Ruger 10-22 is an assault weapon because of the telescoping stock.

Both are BS.

Well, it isn't just BS, it's reptilian depravity of the first order.

It looks like Dana Rohrabacher, one of the US rep(tiles), is in a little hot water over a cute Russian operative and perhaps NRA money laundering.

And would you call it overreach, given that you "personally don't lump your handgun into the M16 category"?

I said both were examples of what happens with tribal politics over guns. Are they equal? Well, I wouldn't expect a comedy setup to be equal to actual proposed legislation, and guess what, they're not.

Another thing that happens is that people just can't call overreach what it is. People from both tribes.

That's true. Someone has to, and it's apparently not going to be lasal or anyone else from the TeamD chorus.

This is a problem for me as a fan of gridlock. I don't believe Trump will be gone soon. I'd like to see TeamD take at least one chamber of Congress. I think Bill Clinton was right that "assault weapon" stupidity cost them the Congress before and the stupidity has gotten worse. Back then, "assault weapon" did not mean "ordinary .22."

But the inmates have taken over the asylum and the tribal taboo against saying anything bad about any gun control policy or advocate is going to cost votes again. Over stupid BS.

But the big problem is that I point it out.

How were they fooled when they agreed to support a program arming kindergartners? That's long before the teleprompter took control of their tongues.

Joe Walsh, defending himself, admits they came to him with this Israeli program and shouldn't we try it here. They were all on board long before they read any copy.

I can call out misquotes like this one:

On 7/17/2018 at 1:36 PM, lasal said:

Lott said, "We should implement it too, putting guns in the hands of highly trained preschoolers."

What he really said:

Quote

“I support the Kinderguardians program,” Lott says. “We in America would be wise to implement it, too. It’s something we should think about in America, about putting guns in the hands of law abiding citizens — good guys — whether they be teachers, or whether they actually be talented children, or highly trained preschoolers.”

Trent Lott is a robot who knows that his job is to comb his hair neatly and read whatever rolls across a teleprompter. It looks to me like the setup was those last three words. And like a robot, he read them.

And you can really only get that kind of robotic response in an environment in which people like Trent and yourself can't call out obvious BS from your own elk.

That's lame, Tom. The paraphrase was dead on. It's interesting, in a sense, how you literally can't see that Trent Lott, and all the others, agreed to support a "Kinderguardians" program expressly arming kids, you know, "talented children". Your Lott apology fails and it's not pretty. Hold on, let me quote him exactly--oh yeah, "“I support the Kinderguardians program,” Lott says.

So Tom, you couldn't get to the end of one paragraph before conveniently forgetting the first phrase and making excuses for a reptile?

And we may be about to see additional depravity from the NRA. It looks like they might take rubles and harbor Russian agents. You might start stretching out, maybe yoga, because your contortionist routine will be needed.

And please, do your Yogi Rudy Giuliani routine with the back bends and foot in the mouth for Van Cleave, Pratt, Walsh, Rohrabacher, the caiman from SC, Joe Wilson, and Joe First-Grenader Walsh. Maybe you can fill us in on who they thought the talented children are while you're at it. Pratt said all preschoolers can see in slow-motion like owls, so that won't help find the select talented ones. And, he doesn't like the kids who say Allahu Akbar, that's for sure. They can't be Kinderguardians, right? Maybe the kid's who pick up the rudimentary mortar training fastest will get the guns because they're the smartest. But those kids may just have good math skills and while they can quickly calculate range and measure corrections, they may have terrible aim with a Glock. What's the plan?

I'm at least able to say what I did: that those who fell for this haven't got any sense.

You're unable to say anything bad about any gun control policy or group, even when it's just admitting that you know a little .22 pistol isn't a weapon of war. You can only admit that you can see how I might disagree but can never admit disagreement with any gun control.

Can't say I blame you much. You've seen how the tribe treats people like me who violate the taboo. Only a few of us like the truth enough to endure it and you're obviously not such a person.

Those who fell for it didn't have the sense to stay quiet, right? I'm sure you're aware of gun lobby efforts to get children proficient in close combat gun skills, pass legislation to allow them some kind of access to guns at school, then load onto them the responsibilities of protecting their classmates by taking lives.

The fact that you would jump into this thread with a simple minded moral equivalence to distort the facts and claim a grievance about vague threaded barrel restrictions shows how much you like the truth.

You like agitprop and dystopian visions of more guns, not the truth.

I think that if someone tried to send you or a loved one off to fight a war with that gun, you'd suddenly be able to speak the truth. But absent a threat to life, the threat of rejection by the tribe is worse, so you'll never say what you know to be true.

If I week goes by in which grabberz don't advocate banning (assault weapons, ordinary .22's) that will certainly happen.

By the way, asking one side of a debate but not the other to shut up is a form of advocacy, so you just reset the clock.

"It was proposed to me as a legitimate interview to speak about veterans’ issues in our military and current events to a new audience," Palin told GMA's Robin Roberts, echoing statements she made earlier this week on Facebook. "It was supposed to be this big time Showtime documentary and it was passed on to me by a speakers’ bureau, which, you know, I would assume had done some vetting."

, seems like a LOT of people lied to her.

When she did smell the rat, she merely took off the mic & walked away.

Mama Grizz would have broken his arm with a chair and finished the interview with her foot on his neck.

Sarah could DO that, and you need to deal with your own PDS

All you can do is equivocate, it's not a good look. However, scroll up to where I said that I don't lump your .22s into the M16 category. And no, I don't consider that pistol a battlefield weapon.

On the other hand, if that's the gun with a threaded barrel that easily accepts a suppressor, I'm not sure whether I think it should be expressly restricted or not. Of course, if some psycho wanted to shoot up a noisy nightclub with a suppressed .22 he would be hard to locate, even for kids who can see in slow motion. But kids aren't allowed into nightclubs. You wouldn't want kids being around booze and sexually charged dancing, they have to be ready to kill shooters at school the next morning, right?

Why don't you just buy a .22 without the threaded barrel and lower your blood pressure naturally? The agitprop has really worked you into a state. A state where you can't see the ghastly nature of much of the gun lobby. And by the way, even middle aged people can increase their Blink 182 pheromones and greatly improve their nerve reflexes along the Cardi B neural pathway. At the moment your Wiz Khalifa is so slow you couldn't hit the side of a barn with that .22 anyway. Do your Rita Ora a favor, Tom.

It is, meaning it's covered by the proposed assault weapon ban.

So the TeamD Senators want to ban it as a weapon of war and you can at least say that's BS but are not sure about banning it for the naughty machining.

As I explained in the assault weapon thread, the reason I want that particular .22 is because TeamD Senators want to ban it.

I'm just Uncooperative that way.

But the reality is that I have severe Polynavicular Morbus and am far more likely to spend money on boats and boaty stuff than on another gun. But it is fun to talk about "assault weapons" and then show the pink flower pic to elucidate what that term really means in the current political climate.

It Used to Matter When a Politician Yelled 'N-gger'

Sacha Baron Cohen is an entertainer, not an educator. His new Showtime series, Who is America?, doesn’t respond to the question that its title poses. Instead, Cohen invites us to laugh at the answer.

Still, the chameleonic Cohen finds truth in the course of his deception. In the two weeks since his show premiered, we have seen “Erran Morad,” his fake Israeli anti-terrorism expert, coach former Republican lawmakers and gun zealots to advocate for the arming of schoolchildren. This past Sunday, the “Morad” character got Georgia state representative Jason Spencer to drop both his pants and the word “nigger.” Spencer, who is white, screamed it repeatedly, with that hard “r” at the end. (Spencer’s segment also included a racist impersonation of a Chinese man.)

Spencer wasn’t tricked into showing his ass – he saw the cameras, and that is who he is. Last summer, Spencer told a black attorney that she “won’t be met with torches but something a lot more definitive” and that she and others opposed to Confederate statues “will go missing” in a local swamp. In an America concerned with doing more than paying lip service to racial justice, a man like Spencer would have been sent out on the same backside that he revealed on Cohen’s show. Alas.

One could argue that Cohen is doing a public service by outing folks like Spencer as prejudiced, stupid or both. Displays of overt racism, after all, make these people easier to spot. As many of us have been told, it is better to learn what people truly think about you. The president’s very name has been used as a slur to demean, belittle and intimidate. Even more telling is that a state lawmaker like Spencer feels no significant pressure to resign after, quite literally, exposing himself on national television and dropping that hard “r,” over and over.

A Georgia lawmaker ridiculed by dropping his trousers and using racial slurs on Sacha Baron Cohen's Who Is America? show has said he will resign.

Republican state representative Jason Spencer had initially refused to quit after the show aired on Sunday.

Baron Cohen's show dupes public figures with fake interviews.

Mr Spencer is coaxed into an "anti-terrorism training class", using the n-word to ward off a kidnapper and baring his buttocks to scare off terrorists.

"If you want to win, you show some skin," Baron Cohen, disguised as an anti-terrorism expert, had urged him.

We'll see how Cohen's "interview" with Howard Dean went. So far, it looks like Bernie just tolerated 'Billy Ruddick' and continued as normal just like most people did with Ali G.

But the assumption behind your curiosity is that the left has an agenda they hide in the way the crypto fascists hide or carefully curate their violent racism, dystopian vision of arming children, homophobia, and idealize a nineteenth century view of woman's rights and reproductive rights.

Do you think Alex Jones in disguise as the ice cream man is going to get Sandy Hook gun control advocates to say it was all a hoax so they could confiscate the low caliber weapons of the low caliber fascists in Florida?

Maybe you think Bill O'Reilly disguised as a pizza magnate and advertiser will get Hillary Clinton to admit she runs a child prostitution ring out of a DC pizza parlor and promote a TV spot to bring the outfit to Israel. "In less than a month, less than a month, your first grader can become a first grenader. Well that one is already taken.

What do you think a Cohen type "taking on the left" could uncover?

So you call the stuff we saw from the gun lobby with plush guns and mortar training, and Jason the Republican legislator yelling the N word with his ass out and taking upskirt pics "framed in less that a flattering light"? You have less than a tenuous grasp on reality if you think that's just bad lighting.

It's funny that you proffer a turnabout scenario but you can't seem to think of an example of a lefty being shown in a "less than flattering light." Cohen isn't busting people picking their noses, he's getting them to show the true colors of their political views. I could contemplate him getting Mike Pence's wife to go to a retreat on how to legislate against contraception where they talk about blowing your boyfriend before marriage so you remain a virgin. Whacha got on the other side there, Guy?

FYI, you're painting yourself in a less than flattering light with the name calling. Were you raised in a barn?

There are plenty of examples that I could mention of lefties being shown in a less than flattering light, but, describing those potential scenarios isn't the point at all, as much as you are trying soooo very hard to make it so.     The point is that you suggest that Cohen's antics reveal some kind of major revelation about the fundamental flaws that are lying under the surface of every non-left-thinking person,  and that the consideration that the same approach could very well be applied to any of the left's memes is heresy.     That he caught a few people doing stupid stuff is funny to me, and points out how much trust and value we should place upon political comments in general.

Never said every non-left-thinking person at all. And for major players in the gun lobby and two sitting congressmen to be willing to support arming kids is a major revelation indeed.

And I never said considering a turnabout scenario on leftists is any kind of heresy. Never said it or implied it. I'm just wondering what you think a funny Cohen piece like that might be. Maybe Cohen could disguise himself as a submariner and get George Soros to take him to his underwater hideout where the Illuminati meet to decide what to put in your vitamins next month?

You can think of something I hope.

I don't have a problem with poor rural folks. Unless they have a lot of missing teeth. That's awkward in a conversation, having to think don't look at the teeth constantly. My mom lives in a very small rural town, and while she has all of her teeth, not all of her neighbors do. She was raised in an 1830 built farmhouse with a pond and cistern that provided running water and a hand crank well in the front yard for drinking water. I loved that farm.

Its not about right or left, its about individuals being given enough rope to well and truly hang themselves. Something which gets seen here again and again.

You are one of the best examples of complete culture change of a nation.  You drank gallons of koolaid and you rally like it.  They have convinced you that the very system that makes the 1% richer, is good for you, like the trump voters do.

I suspect that it used to be un-American to hate half of your countrymen for their beliefs, now it is very American.

Eh, no.

Its not about right or left, its about individuals being given enough rope to well and truly hang themselves. Something which gets seen here again and again.

You're quite right - and if you are honest enough to read my thoughts frim the beginning of the thread - you'll find that we are in complete agreement on this.

You are a petulant child.  BJ says that in person' you're an OK sort, but everything you've ever said here leads one to think that you and your opinions are unworthy of consideration.

So I guess that's why you considered my opinion?

BJ was just being polite, he's a nice guy.  He drank my crap coffee and dodgy beer without complaining once.

So he has left out the part where I confirmed your observations.

In my early 20s I build a shed in the forest in North Queensland.  Taipan infested tropics.  Interest rates were 10% and rising, but we didn't let that stop us from getting our own place.  No running water, no electricity, no flushing toilet.  We showered under the down-pipe in the afternoon downpour.

Now I have to put up with youngsters accusing people like me who own multiple houses, of inflating the market and preventing them from getting a house.  Interest rate nearly zero.

I watched the first two episodes last night, and they were pure gold.  The child soldier sponsorship was probably my favorite.

Cohen is the master of manipulating people to do all sorts of strange things.  How he can keep pulling this off after the cat is out of the bag with Ali G and Borat is even more amazing.

I am not really sure people believe the shit he gets them to say, but that makes it even more remarkable that he gets them to say it.
