Are boat shoes cool?

Recommended Posts

I just got inside, so I took off my sunglasses and Mount Gay rum hat. That got me wondering.

Are boat shoes Cool?

Or are these just for offshore yacht racer newbies and wannabees?

Personally, I don't like them, and don't wear them. You never/rarely see "good" boats wearing them.

I think back in the 80's/90's whenever they were introduced it was a "thing" to "prove" that you sailed and wanted to stay on board...

Curious what the masses think on this one. Like everything, I'm sure there will be two camps here...

Not if you leave the fenders out they're not.

That's not a boat shoe.

That's a shoe boat.

Yes they are, if you like them. Otherwise, no, they are not. It's the eye of the beholder.

Did Brett Kavanaugh wear boat shoes?

I dont wear the usual boat shoes, which looks like this:

Leeward Boat Shoe

When I do wear a pair, I wear these:

Now, these are cool.

However, in reality, I mostly wear my indoor soccer shoes when I am sailing  :)

Copa Super Shoes Blue CQ1946

These are cooler.

I wear boat shoes to the Yacht Club.

On the boat, I'm wearing kayaking water shoes. They're like $19/pair. Stick to the deck like glue! Look lame as shit. But, you know... stick to the deck like glue!!

You really need to take those off and wash your feet more frequently.

If you have to ask, if you even think about something being cool, then NO it aint cool and neither are YOU!

I have noticed that those who like to think they are 'Pro's' don't wear gloves,  They are too cool apparently.

I've had spectra halyards cut through gloves more than once, maybe that's because I am a shit sailor.

No matter the style there is always a thin line between cool and dork

- One toothpick in the mouth- cool. Two toothpicks, dork

- One eye patch, cool. Two eye patches, blind dork.

Croc actually has a boat shoe that has a very grippy sole.  Mens Beach Line Boat shoe is what they call them.  They have been discontinued

Maybe they should ask Dr. Ford that on Thursday.

My rationale for boat shoes used to be at least they didn't mark up the deck like shoes made for other sporting activities. Now, not necessarily so. In fact, my old Topsiders (yes, still have two pairs) make more marks than my walking and running shoes. So, only cool if they've got like ten or more years on them and you just don't want to throw them out.

My Teva sandals are cool - grippy, quick dry and inexpensive. Built like a tank.  Checks all the boxes.  And by cool I mean my feet don't sweat. fur reel.

Bass, for freshwater use only.

Plenty of saltwater fish to wear on the Central West coast of Florida:
