Sydney to Hobart 2019

Who would you prefer Scallywag or Infotrack? Rambler 88 is faster than both nowadays with her new config. Also I wonder what Scallywag were up to on their Social Media saying watch this space? Seems like it has now been pulled? I thought Comanche purchase but that seems to have gone by wayside.

Waiting till the last minute to put everything together so they can use the "Not enough prep time" excuse when they sail like shit or break something again.

It should be a great race Just don't protest.

I really mean that. Do NOT protest anyone for anything.

You will pay for it, mark my words.

Maybe we can talk about something other than the maxi-fest this year ?

do I count right - 11x TP52's (if Ichi Bum included).

Plus a large chunk of the fleet that will either break or take it easy it if the weather is at all nasty.

Eden will be busy this year, is my bet.

Possibly Jervis Bay, Ulladulla and Bermagui too. Itchy is designated as an IRC 52, an altogether superior beast to the lowly TPs.

Gorn - how come you aren't out there suffering with the rest?

It's been pretty shitty since rounding the Island, and it looks like plenty of shit left to come for the poor bastards who weren't on a 60'+ boat.

Oh well, "that's ocean racing" ...

Fucking shitty night, I reckon - but I spent plenty like that too! But we had the pleasure of staying out there longer!

Sadly my fridge magnet collection was in dreadful need of polishing, then when I had finished with that I noticed the shameful state my doilies were in, so I spent the rest of my day ironing them.

If the race was still started on Friday night then the vast majority of the fleet would be finished with perhaps only a couple of stragglers still being out there now. But like you said, the 100 footers & TPs are all back in the barn by now and they're all that really matter.

As stated above, Bird means nothing.

Everyone under TP speed has been consistently screwed in these 90 miler's since they moved the starts to late Saturday morning.

But why hasn’t anyone mentioned “time constraints” withdrawals yet? Surely these people need reminding that “in my day we weren’t softcocks like nowadays”?

A look back to 2008 when Speedboat 100 was launched she was touted as having double the righting moment of Oats and BJ and would blow them away in the right conditions. Perhaps she still would nowadays? A lot to be said for boats and which owner they end up with to determine their longevity and competitiveness. BJ recording a 15 minute win in the Bird Island Race.

the problem is that in any conditions where she would "Blow Oats and BJ away" the Indian would be even faster again

I dont think there are ANY conditions or Any angles in Any wind where infotrack would go faster then oats or BJ.

Even on the reach out the heads Bj was faster then Info and it seemed like perfect wind and angle for info.

Concerned with previous years accusations of bias, this year the RC have decided to invite a group of independent celebrities to sit on the Jury.

The members of the PC this year are guitarist Keith Richards, Swordsman Sir Vivian Richards and porn star Renee Richards.

Would or could you say that about Ellisons' Sayonnara? Great boat - but he would neither use it, nor sell it, after '98..............

I think it's on the cards. Scallywag jumped the gun and posted "watch this space" on their Instagram thread citing something big was going down but since dropped this? So it could well be Jim told them to shut up until after the Hobart as it would be detrimental to their cause. Scallywag is for sale because it got beat by Rambler in the Fastnet but Rambler is a lot faster boat nowadays pity not doing the Hobart. So IMO there is antidotal evidence in the air here of something going down?

I think the Skipper has a good relationship with the owner  but I don't see Comanche winning too many races under the current SW regime. I'm open to opinions on this though.!

Can't find the entrants for the Solas? Black Jack will win no matter. They are going along very nicely at the moment. They are worth every bit of the $4.00 for the Hobart IMO.

Sportsbet have:

Oats at $2.75

Comanche $3.50

Black Jack $4.50

Infotrack $6.00

Scallywag $6.50

They make some pretty high end consumer electronics specifically aimed at computer gamers. It's an interesting partnership and probably signifies a greater interest in sponsoring sailing in Far Eastern countries. God knows sailing could use some more mainstream sponsors.

In 2015 Sportsbet made some pretty bad odds I’m sure a few of us made a $’s of them & they tightened up after that. I opened an account just for that race. I bet Maserati to Beat BJ70. Rags to beat Rambler 88 + a few others, lost my LH bet but I made $1500 off $200-$300. Since then I bet $20 for BJ Line Honours two years ago? & lost. Never bet on anything else in my life before, & deleted the app after. Tempted to have a few bets on the UFC but odds not worth it. Plus my picks are 60/40 :)

I'm not tempted by betting, although I will splash some cash on the lottery when the jackpot is at an insane level. I used to think "what would I do if I won the $40m Jackpot"  but never had a ticket. Now I get the ticket just for the sake of it.  $20m is my minimum to get my wallet open.

It's a bit like paying for a ride at an amusement park or a lap dance at a local club.

I object to gambling infiltrating sport generally.  I won't watch football games on TV that advertise gambling, so I don't see any games.

I am totally pissed off that the fuckers are now offering odds for sailing.

'Spot Betting' has fucked sport.

  • Cricket:  I can bet that the 3rd ball of the 9th over will be a no-ball
  • League: I can bet that there will be a penalty in the first 90 seconds
  • Tennis: I can bet that one of the players will retire injured in the third set.

Easy money hey.  Players can make more in a year that way than from prizes and they do!

So here we are, one of the last bastions being fucked up the arse by betting corporation criminals.

Yeah, fuck off with your ads for that.

Gents, It looks like Astro is a new sock for Randumb - same posting habits.  I suggest everyone puts him on ignore, if you must reply to him, please don't quote him.

Thanks!
