Velocitek SC-1 circuit repair or trash?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know about having a circuit board repaired? My 10yr old SC-1 decided not to turn on having worked perfectly a couple weeks ago (no, it's not the batteries). Looks like there is some discoloration around a spot on the board. I contacted Velocitek, they no longer offer hardware support for it. Would sending it to some repair company (suggestions?) be feasible or financially irresponsible? It was a cool thing to have on board, but I can't see spending $100s to fix it, and I'm not inclined to splurge for a new ProStart.

I'm thinking it's a paperweight now.

Look hard at the discolored spot, if its the leg of a component, it may be that you can simply re-solder it and it will work fine.  Alternatively if you can id the bit that is soldered in there, you can often replace it for a few cents.  Done this on more than a few washing machine timer boards when no replacement for the whole part exists (thanks whirlpool).
