The poor boy has had his hopes dashes so often I worry about his mental stability.

I heard that Donnie's personal attorneys and Fox News have concocted a way out by pleading mental instability. It won't work of course and his squeals will be loud and vocal when he gets his day in court.

I heard Mueller was backing off this week out of respect to GHWB...

The way to respect GHWB would be to tighten the screws and return to a democracy were we are not witness to eight lies a day plus and all the feeble interruptions the R's are going to throw in the path of the steam train.

@Barnacle Balls when I first glanced at your post #3 My first thought was that you had reverted to your native Russian.

You're trying to make it about anything but the subject of a full-blown investigation and prosecution of a crooked President. It won't work anymore, as I wrote, the ending starts in 30 days.

The funnier side of this will be all of the Republicans who will swear they never voted for Donald Trump. After Richard Nixon resigned in disgrace, the floodgates could barely contain ardent supporters. It will be the same with Trump, but this time we have social media to remind everyone and keep them honest.

What would be the appropriate course of action for a presidential candidate confronted with a conflict of interest like this?

I doubt any of it, resignation, indictment.... impeachment, whatever. None of it. Some political damage? Sure, I suppose.

Trump is a pragmatic, he will shift his positions to align with a new house. In turn, they will repay the favor by working with him to get some shit done.

Come a year from now, we will all be singing kumbaya.

It could happen!

It was a massive teaser, signed by Mueller. The details of the lie about the Russian deal were to be expanded and laid out in writing to the Judge at the Cohen sentencing, according to Mueller. This voice, framed in a sentencing format, is unstoppable by the phony AG.

Nah Billy. It is all political theater design to obfuscate any notion of truth and to sway public opinion.

It isn't actually real. You do know that right?

If Mueller is happy at sentencing time, Cohen is all good, based on the evidence.

How do we celebrate? Where do we celebrate?

I ask myself "What would the Faithful cry out for?" if this were a Democrat (especially Hillary), and that would be the route I'd take.

Sadly, I doubt the Faithful would be comfortable directing their oft-repeated chant of "Lock him up!' at their Messiah.

I dunno, it all depends on how much the incoming Democrat House wants to feather it's own nest. That is, after all, President Trump's main interest other than getting lots of attention.

It could be that they'll get along quite well.

When you say "confronted", it suggests President Trump was unaware of the conflict of interest described in the OP, and needed to be made aware.

Are you of that opinion?

Once Cohen realized Trump would fuck him, Cohen hired good lawyers, and listened to them, and appears to have played it relatively straight, because his only hope is cooperation. That's more than Trump, Manafort, Corsi and Papapadapolous managed.

Now, if you are still drinking 70s prog rock bongwater, this might not make sense. Especially if you don't actually read things, you just make up bullshit.

As I understand it Cohen was negotiating a potential deal for a Moscow Trump Tower and Trump was well aware of it while he was running for the Republican nomination. For reasons that are not clear Trump killed the deal. Please explain why this is disqualifying.

Also suppose for a moment that he had been caught on an open mic telling Medvedev to tell Vladimir that he would have more flexibility (to make concessions) after the election. Please explain why such an action would not be disqualifying.

What would be the appropriate course of action for a presidential candidate confronted with a conflict of interest like this?

Nothing seems to be the correct answer. If doing something was correct, Donald Trump would have never been elected in the first place.

As I understand it Cohen was negotiating a potential deal for a Moscow Trump Tower and Trump was well aware of it while he was running for the Republican nomination. For reasons that are not clear Trump killed the deal. Please explain why this is disqualifying.   ...    ...    ...

Because US foreign policy is not supposed to be for sale to the highest bidder, and certainly not for the profit of a single individual.

Seems to me he took steps not to do a deal with said foreign leader.

If the reasons are not clear, why would you assume that?

Because when a guy has gone bankrupt a bunch of times (and lied about it) and stiffed his partners, stiffed his investors, and stiffed his employees, many many times, and lied about that; been found guilty of fraud and of racial discrimination by a US court..... you tend to think the best of that person, don't you?

Also suppose for a moment that he had been caught on an open mic telling Medvedev to tell Vladimir that he would have more flexibility (to make concessions) after the election. Please explain why such an action would not be disqualifying.

My understanding is President Trump "intentionally misled" (to everyone but you, it's a lie) us about his dealings.

Like everything else, it is the cover-up that gets you.

So killing a deal that would constitute a conflict of interest would be a good thing ...right?

I think he was misleading but he did not lie. Now if  he had been caught on an open mic telling Medvedev to tell Vladimir that he would have more flexibility (to make concessions) after the election that to me would disqualify him. Would that disqualify him for you?

So if this is the case.... when are you guys going to start going after Mike Pence?

That depends on when and why, not the letter after his name

Except for the part about making up reasons (you're a mind reader?) that could look pretty bad

Was Obama expecting to make money out of a deal with Medvedev or Putin?

Hi lied.  Said he was not working on a deal with Russia that required US sanction relief, when he was, in fact, negotiating that deal.

After reading the following article, you have to ask how did Republican voters seriously ignore all of this to give Trump a pass to the Presidency? Do Republicans only get morality after the fact when everything falls apart?  https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/01/donald-trump-scandals/474726/

A lot of them got off the bus, but a lot more came flocking in from the woodwork. The guys who join tiki-torch parades shouting "Heil Trump!" more than made up for the Episcopalians and Methodists who decided that having a black guy for President wasn't so bad, and decided they really couldn't vote for a KKK member and con man.

Although a lot of them got back on the bus when he promised to lower their taxes.

I share Bristol's intrigue with the blazer buttons. Were any of them interesting enough to have stuck in your memories all these years?

Flexibility?  Yeah, he would have more flexibility.  That's what happens when you've won your last election.  You are truly naive to think otherwise.

From what would such a thing disqualify him?  It's not like he was taking secret meetings with Russians in Obama Tower and then lying about the reason(s).

If you feel it should disqualify him from serving as President, fasten your seatbelt.  It'll be a bit bumpy for you when Mr. Mueller shares some details next Wednesday.  Me thinks more than a few of those revelations will "disqualify" President Trump.

Trump didn't do it.

Well he did it but it isn't illegal.

Well it is illegal but who cares.

Obama/Clinton did it too!

Maybe they do...  but what if Clinton won the election and things fell apart... would there be any morality with the D team?

The God Squad can rationalize a god-eating cult. Trump's minor league compared to what they rationalize on a daily basis.

If Clinton had won the election, Republicans would have had to deal with the thirty-year, $100 million hate-fest built without evidence of criminality. Dealing with your own fake-news would have been a doozy for you guys.
