Lewmar Ocean 44ST Winch Stripper Ring

Recommended Posts

One of our mast winches is a Lewmar Ocean 44ST. For some reason, the line stripper seems to damned small. The original one broke years ago, and we got the official one with the right part number to replace it, though it's for the 44/46 winches.

It spins freely. It looks like it's too short to reach the feeder arm.

We ordered a new ring, to try it out. Nope, it does the same thing. It doesn't look like it lines up with the edge of the arm like the larger 48s do.

Any ideas? It doesn't look like Lewmar even has the 44ST in it's line any more.

The long axis looks to be about 115mm on an OEM one (didn't take it off the winch so +-) and the tab is just captured by the arm. Lots of folks seem to sell them but I've never tested a replacement.

To be clear, if it's the right length I presume that the arm is bent or some such. Maybe the old one failed in a interesting way?

Maybe the feeder is bent. By comparison, here's the 48ST right above it. Nice and snug. That's the 44 in the background, blurred out by the bokeh.

When you look at the 44 and the 48 right next to each other in those pictures, it sure looks like the feeder is bent, doesn't it. Not so obvious when you're eyeballing it.

Thanks guys, I think we've found the problem.

It only took 5hrs to solve, but imagine the traffic if you’d titled that you had a Stripper problem?

Your photos would have been a let down. ;)
