Karen Pence Is Working At A School That Bans LGBTQ Employees And Kids

The school discriminates against LGBTQ people in its job application and says LGBTQ kids aren’t welcome.

Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, started at a job this week teaching art at Immanuel Christian School in Northern Virginia. It’s not a school where everyone is welcome. In a “parent agreement” posted online, the school says it will refuse admission to students who participate in or condone homosexual activity. The 2018 employment application also makes candidates sign a pledge not to engage in homosexual activity or violate the “unique roles of male and female.”

“Moral misconduct which violates the bona fide occupational qualifications for employees includes, but is not limited to, such behaviors as the following: heterosexual activity outside of marriage (e.g., premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex), homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female, sexual harassment, use or viewing of pornographic material or websites,” says the application.

The application says that the school believes “marriage unites one man and one woman” and that “a wife is commanded to submit to her husband as the church submits to Christ.” The application asks potential employees to explain their view of the “creation/evolution debate.”

The “parent agreement” asks parents to cooperate in its “biblical morality” policy. Under this policy, parents are to acknowledge the sanctity of marriage as a strictly heterosexual practice. Families who condone, practice or support “sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity” go against the principles of the school, per the document.

You have a really nasty dirty imaginative mind.

I like that.

"Nowhere in the Bible is it written that a Christian man shall not slip his Christian wife a quick one up the butt."

However, if men do it with each other, you have to stone them to death. It says so in the Bible. Strangely, the Bible's authors seemed to be unaware of the existence of lesbians. From this we can infer that hot chicks fisting each other is OK in the sight of god.

So Mr. and Mrs. Pence, being fundamentalist Christians, must in their heart of hearts wish that every gay male should be killed. With rocks. (OK, the older ladies can just fling handfuls of gravel. It's the thought that counts.)

At several of the High Schools I taught at there were cliques of LGBTQ students and rather than be oppressed, the other students were very protective of them.  In other words, 15-18yo kids got it where Mickey and his elk does not.  Damn his head is deep in the sand.

Gotta love the reflexive "both sider" knee jerk.  The subject of the thread is blatant gender discrimination not lying about blow jobs.  Although I will put up JFK's presidential exploits against DJT's "successes" any day.

But while we're on the subject, what is the bizarre fascination of republican legislators with getting it on in public bathrooms.  Love the sin but hate the sinner is not how the proverb goes.

I find hateful bigotry of the Vice President and his wife offensive.

Pence Says Criticism of His Wife's Job at Anti-LGBTQ School Is 'Deeply Offensive'

Vice President Mike Pence has complained that he finds the criticism of his wife’s decision to teach at an elementary school that explicitly bans LGBTQ employees and students “deeply offensive.” “My wife and I have been in the public eye for quite a while, we’re used to the criticism,” Pence said in an interview with EWTN, a network that offers “news from a Catholic perspective.” But he added that “to see major news organizations attacking Christian education is deeply offensive to us.” Karen Pence is teaching twice a week at the Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Virginia, which forbids employees and students from “heterosexual activity outside of marriage... homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female,” among other sexual activities. Pence added: “We have a rich tradition in America of Christian education, and frankly religious education broadly defined... We’ll let the other critics roll off our back, but this criticism of Christian education in America should stop.”

Pence is probably the most dangerous and hypocritical person in Washington now. He fully supports Trump who lies, commits adultery and steals but maintains that he is a good Christian. While I am not a very religious person, can someone tell me where in the bible and other teachings it tells someone with strong "Christian Values" like Pence to support the misdeeds of a person like Trump?

Unfortunately, they don't need any.

Virginia, like most states, has no statewide legislation explicitly prohibiting private employers from discriminating based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

I think you're ignoring the right of the school to employ individuals that embody their values, and one of those is to not embrace deviant behavior.  Whether people want to admit it or not, choosing to live an LGBTQ lifestyle is a decision, and someone who'd choose that path isn't going to be a good fit in a christian academy.   it's a private institution, and they can do what they want.  Don't like it?  Don't go.    Would you approve your school hiring a flat-earther as a science teacher?

It's a decision to choose the lifestyle? As opposed to living in the closet? At least you didn't capitalize christian because these organizations are about dictating behavior including juvenile conversion therapy. It's got shit to do with the teachings of Jesus. They decide what is good and moral and condemn anyone who doesn't adhere to it. Now, you are correct that it's private so they can decide who goes there. Kind of like golf clubs that only let in white people, right? It's well known that Pence is an up tight white guy, so be it. He is also the 2nd most important person in the US government and it is bad optics to see his wife supporting/endorsing this.

Many years ago I thought gay people were fucked up and fair game for ridicule. Then I met some.  We are doing a poor job of not discriminating by color and an abysmal one of sexual orientation. The choice is how we view and deal with it.

I'd agree 100% if the same people running schools like this were not also fighting to take science out of public schools, and for that matter fighting to reduce public school funding (or have it re-allocated to themselves).

When charter schools, religious schools, and other private schools are accepting the same population of the differently-abled or chronically criminal students that public schools are forced to accept, then I'll be glad to accord them the same resources that public schools get. As it is, they should operate like any other for-profit business with the added enforcement of school standards.

I suspect that a lot of these "Christian schools" are actually evangie/fundie madrassas, turning out the next generation of white domestic terrorists.

I *do* think that the LGBTQ folks have issues, and it's not in the plumbing.  I do NOT think that those issues warrant their being treated poorly.   Agreeing that a private christian academy has the right to hire people that demonstrate the personal values that comport w/the church's values is not the same as seeking out LGBTQ folks for ridicule/discrimination.

Likewise - I don't think that there's any issue w/an all male, all female, all black, all hispanic institution of higher learning - if a group of people want to associate with others demographically similar to themselves - I don't think that anyone else should tell them they can't.    Some folks don't seem to get that, and think that anyplace who exhibits such a desire must be doing so with insidious intent.  I disagree.

Having been raised Catholic, I have a pretty good sense of what Christ preached.  That Old Testament stuff came before him.

Did Christ preach discrimination or intolerance?  Did Christ insist we treat others in this fashion?

My Sunday school teachers, and the nuns from HS would say "No".

I am not arguing over the right of the school to be discriminatory in their hiring and admissions practices.  That the school is "private", and can do that.  But, that has nothing to do with being Christian.

There should be two questions asked.

  1. do they support public money being diverted to private schools?
  2. do they expect accreditation despite failing to teach accurate science?
    • Amish have their own schools.   The education is limited to what the Amish want their kids to know, taught by Amish teachers.    They pay for it themselves.    You won’t get admitted to college without getting a comprehensive education first.

I work with a lot of LGBTQ folks. It's definitely not a lifestyle decision. It is who they are. 'Deviant' and 'choosing' are really bad word choices. 'Discriminated against' would be good word choices. I can accept that you won't accept that but what I said above is the ever loving truth. In the '80's, I'd make fun of fags. Ok...You have just proved conclusively that you are an ignoramus and a bigot.

You are an ignoramus because you clearly know nothing of human sexuality or gender expression at the genetic level.

You are a bigot because you are either are a sheltered little cream puff terrified of "the other", or you have bought into a religious construct that is defined by a narrow reading of scripture to justify prejudice and discrimination.

LGBTQ people "chose a lifestyle"...what fucking pathetic gibberish.

If Pence and Mother view institutionalized discrimination as "Christian", then we have identified the problem.

"Hate the sin, love the sinner" works as a justification for following tRump like a love sick poodle.  He just randomly sticks his mushroom and/or fingers into married or unmarried women whether invited to or not.  No biggie.  Gotta love the sinner.

"Hate the sin, love the sinner" apparently doesn't work for those who are born with a variation on binary sexuality.  God must not have been paying attention when he created those kids.  Whatta fuck up.  Gotta hate the sinner.  Ban them!

In my unprofessional opinion, Pence and Mother are mentally ill.

Of course they are. They can take the best students away from public schools, take public schools funding, and leave the public schools to deal with the most difficult, most resource intense,  and least likely-to-succeed students.

It's easy to succeed when you not only cherry-pick but take money away from your rivals by doing so.

I'm all for improving schools, but I'm not convinced that charter schools are an improvement in any way other than furthering the agenda of fucking over public education

In my unprofessional opinion, Pence and Mother are mentally ill.

No more so than any other true believers in any religion.

Christian education

I went to school with Betsy (Sec. of Ed).  She was a year ahead.

I went back for a reunion.  Old friend standing at the bar, how are you, kids?  The wife pulls me aside, you can't see he's gay?  My gaydar is inoperative.

Why in the hell should it matter?  I like women.  If I preferred men would that make me another person?

public schools

My children went to public schools.  They are doing very well, thank you.  It is more about the home than the schools.

Atlanta public schools?  Mine are in APS right now and we have had an overall favorable experience.  Really seems to depend on what track your kids get on.

You can't make this shit up -

On eve of MLK Day, Pence says Trump is like Martin Luther King Jr. for ‘inspiring us’ with a border wall

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/01/eve-mlk-day-pence-says-trump-like-martin-luther-king-jr-inspiring-us-border-wall/

Excerpt -

“And honestly,” he opined, “the hearts and minds of the American people are thinking a lot today about [this] being the weekend we remember the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

“One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King was, ‘Now is the time to make real the promises of Democracy,'” Pence continued. “You think of how he changed America, he inspired us to change through the legislative process, to become a more perfect union. That’s exactly what President Trump is calling on the Congress to do, come to the table in a spirit of good faith.”

If Pence calls his wife "Mother", what the hell does he call her when they're shagging?!

They don't.

They did it 3 times, years ago to procreate and that was it.

Sex for any reason other than procreation is a sin.

LGBTQ kids?   Is the new cultural Marxist catchphrase? Why do you collectivists feel the need to label and put everyone into categories?  Fucking hell, leave the kids alone, fuck-wit.

This sounds like 90’s campus feminism.   “May I kiss you now?”

And she calls him Oedipus?

"Collectivist" - the right wing nutter counterpart to the left wing nutter "Bourgeois".

Tiresome, formulaic drivel that only succeeds in making the user look like a fool.

Ok...You have just proved conclusively that you are an ignoramus and a bigot.

You are an ignoramus because you clearly know nothing of human sexuality or gender expression at the genetic level.

You are a bigot because you are either are a sheltered little cream puff terrified of "the other", or you have bought into a religious construct that is defined by a narrow reading of scripture to justify prejudice and discrimination.

LGBTQ people "chose a lifestyle"...what fucking pathetic gibberish.

This has been an...educational thread. Had to revise a couple of assessments of some folks.

I'd be surprised if the school didn't have at least one flat earther or the earth is 6000 years old teacher on staff.

I'm pretty sure Mother has that covered.
