Horror...

to say burns are the worst does not come close to describing the injuries....

I guess the oil companies will be telling us why that will cause the price of gas to go up here.

If YOU had a clue you would understand what I was referring to. But since you don't, you won't.

The locals get it.

Mein Gott.  The people running away on fire... I hope we've got burn specialists on their way.

This happened years ago in Africa, and the death toll reached into the hundreds.

I have to say that burning to death is my least favourite way to exit this plane.

No......eaten by some carnivore.....that’s #1. Burning is #2 and I’ve had a smattering of a pretty good burn or two.

I dunno. I have heard from some carnivore survivors that a big chunk of pain sensation shuts down when you are being gnawed by a bear or whatever, and those injuries heal. I don't hear the same stories from fire survivors.

We'll hope we both die in bed at 105, shot by an outraged husband. I'm not sure my wife is up with that plan, however.

Terrifying... People have to  be very desperate or very ignorant to risk their lives like that.

Looks like a napalmed village from that Asain war nobody liked. What a horrible way to die, possibly worse to survive.

They tap into those gas lines...this tap blew or failed , I don't think spewing gasoline is part of the plan,it just attracted hundreds of stupid people.....evidently there are 100's of taps and a big blackmarket in cheap stolen tapped gas....those poor burn victims are suffering untreated and in excruciating pain ....

My limited experience suggests your body overloads and goes into a sensory shock (or total  shock). That ends when the nurse gives you a tongue repressor and  says " here, bite  on this" and starts scrubbing the flesh with a stiff brush and betadine.

yeah the shock pain block has long past and if they have not died from shock or the thier burns they are in shivering spasms and in unimaginable pain lying untreated except for a blanket or crude misguided first aid and comfort....not to mention respiratory trauma

Several Mexican commentators are saying that there is little gasoline to be had in the countryside.  The government is restricting fuel supplies to keep it from the cartels. That may explain the drive to get the gas.  Don't have any other info.

The initial blast looked bad. i wonder how similar the gas spray from the pipe was to a fuel-air MOAB. Horrifying.

What would be the best strategy to survive? Running away will feed the flames on your skin.. roll on Surface to extinguish flames? Any experts?

If you stopped and dropped where you caught fire  chances of being engulfed in the original fireball or continue to be covered with burning gas as it’s falling from the sky.

so I guess you gotta run away first hope you get far enough away and then drop.  But even then  I would imagine that when you are covered in lit gasoline while your clothes are soaked in gasoline, any attempts of rational thought are out the window..

From an article on cbsnews.

The tragedy came just three weeks after President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador launched an offensive against fuel theft gangs that have drilled dangerous, illegal taps into pipelines an astounding 12,581 times in the first 10 months of 2018, an average of about 42 per day. The crackdown has led to widespread fuel shortages at gas stations throughout the country as Pemex deviates distribution, both licit and illicit.

I wondered about that...it is not the liquid that burns...someone good be a good distance away and think they were safe and still ignite the vapor

Flames or no ignition close/in the liquid

EXPLOSION  at the Exact correct distance/Mixture

If you saw the video that pipeline was spewing huge volume of gasoline creating a massive fog of vapor....I simply can not understand the thinking it was a good idea to get anywhere near that place to make a few peso's in free gasoline...I would really like to know how long that pipeline was spewing gas before ignition....

If I was soaked to the skin in gas I don't think I would hang around - even without the fire it would sting like a MoFo.

Leaving aside the horror of the fire, the desperation and poverty illustrated by that vid is sickening.
