Sail Paint

Recommended Posts

Anybody have any experience or knowledge with using paint for UV protection on a roller furling jib leech? Doyle has come up with something similar.

Interesting concept (if it works) for us frugal (not cheap) cruisers :D

Paint will get worn off on creases and uneven areas of the sail.  Paint might be okay for a sail that isn’t left up all season.  Just had a sail in the shop with an Adhesive U/V Dacron cover.  The cover was worn thru on several creases, allowing significant damage on one of these areas.  I was able to patch it, and then apply a Sunbrella U/V cover.  I have done several U/V covers with WeatherMax 80, lately. It’s lighter than Sunbrella, and a bit better on price.  Price of the cloth isn’t too critical in the overall cost of a U/V cover, it’s the cost of labor that drives the cost up.
