J/80 furler

Recommended Posts

J/80 with a Harken unit 00 AL furler.

Any tips on adjusting the forestay turnbuckle?  We need to shorten it by about an inch to hit the forestay arc measurement recommended in the tuning guide.  We can slide the foil up, but can only expose one-half of the turnbuckle.  We could pull the cotter pin and take up the required number of turns on the threads that we can see, but I doubt we'd get the cotter pin back in, as that hole would slowly disappear up into the unit.  I don't see any way to separate the drum from the torque tube.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I just spoke with someone in tech support at Harken, and yes, the solution is the key under the cap, which I didn't know about.

They love to go swimming... I made keys out of 1" aluminum barstock.

I have an older Harken unit and have the same problem. Can you provide a picture of the key under the cap?
