mad 3,834 #5 Posted May 24, 2019 Quote Dalton skippered NZ Endeavour to glory in the maxis, finishing 21 hours ahead of his nearest rival (of either class). Afterwards he conceded that it would be better if there was only one class in the race. His next outing in what was now the Volvo Ocean race was in 1997-1998 as skipper of Merit Cup, which finished second on the podium. He was back again in the following edition finishing third aboard Amer Sports One, but his participation will be remembered for another reason. Its sister boat, Amer Sports Too was crewed by an all-female team and Dalton famously boasted at the start that if he was beaten by the girls he’d walk the streets of Auckland with a pineapple up his backside. Much amusement followed when the girls came in ahead of Dalton on the final leg from Gothenburg to Kiel. Dalton duly obliged, coming into harbour with a pineapple in his shorts. A bit of history. https://archive.theoceanrace.com/fr/legends/178_Grant-Dalton.html

Memphremag 1 #8 Posted May 24, 2019 I was on the boat for the RORC 600 in February and really liked it and its owners Gilles and Max, very nice guys and experienced sailors. The boat was in great shape before this incident. I just hope insurance coverage will let this piece of history sail many more years and win races See Atlas Ocean Racing on FB

See you guys on the starting line soon Dude, you are mistaken if you don't believe it is about access to funding that Gilles and Max have succeeded and will continue to succeed. The program has tons of passion and determination, I have lotsa kudos and respect for them both, but without money that's all for nought...

lead_ior50 4 #17 Posted June 6, 2019 this indeed does not look easily repairable. if the yacht was insured they could collect the insurance money, buy her back, salvage carbon rig and remaining sails etc and purchase a gen I or gen II Whitbread yacht "cheaply".
