Ok. I'm in! But watch out some copycats have a pos catamaran...

Jeez, I'm gonna need to compete with them? Tell me where I am headed next SA. An arctic passage in winter? Tell me what's impossible and I'll shove 20 more lbs of oats on board and head off.

What do you guys think about a poll to help fund my voyage where you have to pay to vote in, votes cost from let's say $1 - $5 with prices being adjusted for insanity of the trip.

I say fuck off.    Pay you to sail?   Why the fuck would anyone do that?    How about you pay us for listening to your drivel.

See that's why you need good staff, keeping an eye on your market position while you eat moldy oats.  That iPad battery is doing well. Agent will likely pursue Apple product placement $.

Get to destination first. Be camera ready.

Hey! Hey, Retard! The idea was to be able to influence the course. I'm not saying, hey sailing anarchy pay me to sail to Cabo San Lucas while I grab a margarita on your dime. I'm saying hey SA, wanna see something fucking nuts? Vote and actually provide a stake in your vote. Do you think or do you think I thought this would actually raise enough money for a trip? No, I'm not a retard like you. If you don't want to read, click the fuck away. I guess you are a fucking retard though. Look for the back arrow and click to you are at the homepage, enter "how to kill myself" in that big rectangle up top, and follow the instructions.

Have a blessed day you stupid cunt!

It most definitely will not.

Doing something incredibly stupid and then putting a gofundme up with a video that include thongs and a grounding or crash or arrest will raise enough money for your trip.

I found that one of my batteries in the motor bank had uneven charge from me stealing off the bank last time. So I have 3 half charged motor batteries and an adapter to suck em on down. System won't work unless all batteries have a charge (48v).

You're pretty shameless

Just realize no one here is paying you to do anything, at least until you come up with something more creative than "vote for my route."  No one cares where you go, unless you are livestreaming a Columbia Bar entrance in a decent swell or boning some hot backpackers.

How so? You understand not everything is to be taken seriously, right? You understand it was an idea made in jest and that it wasn't ever going to be actualized right? I honestly am confused how so many people can't think critically, you see something and you think shit like "millennial who is begging and wants to kill himself" instead of reality. Please reread.

To clarify in plain English, I don't want your money. @MR.CLEAN @solosailor I won't be holding a poll even without the money aspect, so don't need to hear about your dead friends. @randomdudewhocriedearlier And please learn to not take everything I say so seriously. See ballast comment @Clewless to see where even things I think are clearly a joke get taken too seriously time and time again.

Y'all are exhausting me. Please give thought to what you say before you speak and I'll try and do the same. I'm sorry for harsh comments, I'm not in the best state of mind and the posts being responded to are pretty fucking stupid, imo.

I'll just update you guys when I get there and sign off to avoid anymore stupidity.

If you think "good riddance", well I'm sorry you live a life where you have the time to continue to keep up with things you find unsavory. I think I'd rather become fish food than you.

Bye for now, thanks to the helpful people and those who had a clew.

Edit: Please see where I continually joke in reference to this idea. You can pay to kill me, let's do it now that the catamaran people exist, etc.

Hey, glad to see you understood the idea. Now try looking back and seeing my attitude toward it. Please learn how to read into things instead of taking them at face value. Do you read The Onion for your news? I see your from the Bay Area, perhaps you'd like to meet me at the docks and actually understand who I am instead of arrogantly calling me "pathetic". You act is if I threw up a GoFundMe link instead of jestfully suggesting a stupid idea. There are multiple joking references. Get it yet?

I take it you'll react in the same way though. Pathetic is you falling victim to your brain/ego and continuing to believe you're right regardless of what's thrown in your face.

Y'all need to think a little bigger.  As much as FF claims paying him to tell him what course to take was just a stupid idea, I can see this being the next generation of vlogers.

It already happens in online porn (coins to encourage some activity), and porn has been a great predictor of future social tech for decades.

Take 1 part Truman show, 1 part idiocracy (watching ow my balls sitting on the sofa crapper), 1 part millenials who value life experiences above life itself, 1 part Elon's new satellite wifi constellation with non stop streaming go pros and you have a guaranteed hit.

Watching pre recorded people having fun last week,  wishing you were there with them will be so yesterday.

Instead subscribers will be outbidding each other to direct the show,  watching live,  navigating the boat into storms,  hookers and blow.

Until Elon finishes the new brain interface that lets you choose your own real virtual experience at will,  in which case there is no real need for reality ( or a functioning body apart from the brain) anymore.

A go get 'em manager/ agent should already be in sponsorship discussions with Elon right now.

What say you,  NeedAClue?

@dfw_sailor am sure @Al Paca is on it. Some reservations about @FishFood following market signals, though, despite being an "econ major." Might need to replace him after the pilot.

Pilot can be low budget  with a risk reward structure...... follow the market he gets excellent reaching conditions plus an airdrop of instant gratification goodies.  Don't follow the market and he gets pushed into the doldrums and mrs Howell for entertainment instead.

Have plan B in place if FF won't cooperate though..... after pilot,  merge the concept with a survivor like 2 boat experience. Whichever crew provides the most entertaining / fulfilling experience is safe.  Non performing crew judged by subscribers and a member made to walk the plank into a lifeboat.  Which also has cameras. Mix the crews up frequently. Throw in extra big storms to get the ultimate NDE sex for subscribers' vicarious pleasure.

I really need to get back to working on my cabin lights (neopixel based led strips with controller.  I should write a new  topic about it )

Yeah, sure.  Many possibles have come and gone.  Certainly the 1,000 day odyssey and the Hot Rod threads were gifts that kept on giving.  But we have had a lot of disappointments too.  Every whack job that comes along is hailed as the new Stowe, or Rimas or whomever.  What about Jen and her friend, she even did a rambling interview with Clean, no lasting gold there.  How about that guy that bought the sea witch?  He fizzled out pretty quick.  The Dubinator was good for a moonlight stroll and a few laughs but he wasn't around long either.  A guy like Hot Rod only comes along once in a blue moon.  Reid Stowes are as rare as hens teeth.  It takes real quality and some serious  psychopathology to really gain traction at SA.

Judging by his youth and his posts, I don't think this guy has what it takes.  Sure, he's fucked in the head but who isn't nowadays.  With all the shit goin' on it takes a real nut job to get more than a passing glance anymore.  Look at the President we have FFS!  So I'm not putting any money on this kid to even place.  In a month he'll just be another has been, not even a contender.

Yeah, FishFood has a growing supporter base of people hoping to wet our beaks with his monetizable fame. Or notoriety. Whichever works better.  Influencers are waning a bit with some of the bigger brands, but there's plenty of life in the old grift yet.

I'm busy researching oat mold and cultured oat beverages.  I need to recoup my losses on the Random t shirts.

Damn !   I go away for a few days and you guys have already scared away this seasons silly noob buying a boat ... looking for adventure on the high seas so he can write something in his little blog.

Now I will never know if he ends up on the rocks of Big Sur or tapping into his gofundme site for $$'s to get that Denny's grand slam breakfast in Capitola.

Times like this I am so proud of the Irish gene pool the Emerald Isle sent across the pond!

Thank you for the suggestion. It helped to restore my insanity and quell the mania which had started to accompany it.

I am currently rounding Point Sur. Made it up before the heavy weather on Friday. Monday and Tuesday turned out to be nothing but floater days mainly due to me losing my shit and deciding to just head down below and rest. Despite low winds, I made almost all of the progress from Pt. Estero till now yesterday. Turns out, you calm down and figure shit out and things start to roll a little smoother. Weird.

Sorry for displaying my fucked up head so overtly, usually I keep it under wraps.

Should I attempt to sail into Santa Cruz harbor since I'm out of a motor again? I've done the Potato Harbor and Morro Bay entrances under sail, what's one more?

For people who think I have any interest in anything other than accomplishing something worthwhile for once, I don't. I don't have social media, I don't have friends or acquaintances to show off or brag to, etc. I'm just a stupid fucking loser who's was finally able to sail a damn boat and decided to go big while doing it.

My being here is sorta for some ounce of recognition and help with the trip/sailing.

Anyhow, thanks to those who have provided such. Keep up the banter and I'll cut your fucking toes off though.

You used to be able to anchor outside of Santa Cruz Harbor to the west of the pier.  Don't know if it's still allowed.

It's a very narrow entrance with breakers either side. No way would I try to sail in.

Yeah, something looked off with that pic. Think I can make it into the harbor at least. Sweet, I'll make sure to get there at a reasonable time. I'll do spinnies in Monterey Bay all night if I get there too late.

My problem being able to sail and get my anchor up and settled at the same time. Without motor function, I feel safest just looping around all night and taking 10-15 min naps. All good on the breakfast! I appreciate it though.

I doubt I make it before sundown. I'll give you a call or text tonight to coordinate.

I used all my snacks as my primary fuel the last few days since cold Progresso reminds me of that horrible Conception rounding. Not even the most painful hungers have made me give in and crack one of those open. I have resorted to eating chunky peanut butter out of the jar. About 30 servings in and I'm feeling sick of this now too. This has caused a significant loss in the amount of meat on my bones.

Headed to Dominos as soon as I can. If pro looper and any others want to tag along and help me consume as much pan pizza as possible, I'm buying. Thankfully, Dominos has that amazing $6 pizza deal. So even if everyone on this forum crawled out from their dank, dark abode, I'd probably have to give just 10 handies behind the West Marine to avoid going broke. Not too tiresome.

The lesson to be taken away from this entire trip?

You can never have too many snacks and you'll always have too little. Replace crew weight with Doritos for maximum happiness.

About 5 miles south of Carmel Bay, 30 miles or so as the crow flies from Santa Cruz. Hovering around 3knts, I'll be there at about 2am I believe.

Well if you decide to try to enter the harbor as it shows in the above picture it a slight dogleg

approach from the east side and stay @ 2/3rds to the right any breaking waves will be from the west jetty

tie up on an end tie if the harbor patrol gives you a visit just tell them you are waiting for me

I have some pull with them

LMAO! Thank you, I needed a good laugh. This entrance will be heavily shoaled and there is a railroad trestle to get underneath not far in. A little more challenging than say, Ft Bragg, unless you are on a surfboard.

I think the harbor mouth is a few hundred yards to the East, but I imagine you knew that.

Yes, anchoring out in Cowells is still permissible. As of a few days ago there were still a few boats there, but the past few days all are now gone. (My commute is West Cliff so I drive past there twice a day). It is very late in the season for boats to anchor there but it might not be a bad idea for our friend FF to do so temporarily while sorting things out with the SC Harbor Office for a guest slip.

@FF, I would not recommend "coming in hot" expecting help from the Harbor Office to tow you to your slip. Do you have a BoatUS membership? It is not expensive and might be a good idea for you to have AAA "road service" on the water. Vessel Assist could tow you in from the anchorage at Cowells once you have a guest slip.

Edit: Looks like Pro looper is going to help out, which is awesome.

Is “Bee’s Coffee Cup” on Souqel still there? Mid 80’s. Never doubted my boy for a minute.

Nice of you to help him out.  Yeah going northbound here even with a diesel is a challenge, much tougher without one even with two good sails, let alone just one. Glad he made it.

Safely in Santa Cruz, showered, smiling, and thanking my lucky stars that there are people as awesome as @Pro looper out there. Winds died out/turned in to very light northern winds when I was five miles out making it nearly impossible to sail in or sail at all. I was pretty fucking hungry and still not going to dig into the cold Progressos so I gave in, gave pro looper a call, and within 45 mins or less I was being towed in. He then took me out to a great breakfast and spent the day dropping by as I cleaned up, educating me a ton, and helping to get my running rigging settled. I now know I've been using a reef line as an outhaul, improperly reefing the sail by hand tying reef lines around the mast, what is actually my cunningham, and much much more. He also gave me a slip to berth for the night. Please raise his reputation to 100+.

This day has really helped to brighten up my mood and get me back in the right mind set. Looking forward to rounding Golden Gate and finishing in Half Moon Bay. Have to reach SF so you pricks can't say I didn't sail the whole thing.

Currently sitting in my nice, clean cabin and eating much better pizza than dominos.

This boat turns heads too, compliments all around. Thank you Doug Peterson and Charles Didham for the amazing boat, I lucked out.

Have a great night, SA. I encourage you all to find some adventure and seize the day as life will only fade and your abilities along with it.

Yours truly,

FishFood.

Have BoatUS membership but not full TowBoatUS coverage. Totally agree I should get it. For better or worse, I have been elsewhere with my concerns though. Will get asap.

Yes, pro looper is dah man.

FF, if you're looking for a Marina to go on the hard with a cat, Loch Lommond Marina has some extensive experience with cats (of all sizes and designs, too). Maybe check them out. They're in San Rafael.

Super shout outs to @Pro looper

@FishFood, shout out to you too.

If you get a main, have a discussion about ballast. And practice reefing it once before you set out. Can do while charging batteries. :)

No not a cat, It’s a Peterson 1/4 toner

Actually a half tonner! Have a nice Farr 40, "Bodacious", from the tonner class next to me which is also single handed and lived on. Guess I'm not the crazy person who likes old race boats.
