LionessRacing 535 #3 Posted December 2, 2019 Looks like a Plug Mold for an America's Cup build, but it's probably too short. Guessing that it's going to have a canting keel or outboard foils, as the "sponson" bumps appear designed to reduce wetted surface when heeled

Idunno what happened with plug, and why it was split in two... But I'm hoping that the 'sustainable' 3d printing can help plugs and prototypes come along cheaper than milling it out, with less loss of material... The concept of this particular boat I don't fully understand... A lot of proven trailerable boat in that range... But I guess it's just what the world needs... Easy, they couldn't fit it in the door so they cut it in two. It just has not dawned on them yet the finished hull won't fit either.... I am assuming it is the limitation of their 3D printer. LionessRacing 535 #37 Posted December 8, 2019 https://ericweinhoffer.com/blog/2017/7/30/the-whitworth-three-plates-method " The neat thing about surface plates is that they do not require precision tools to create. By using the “three plate method”, developed by Joseph Whitworth, flat surfaces can be created by using gravity and a simple hand-scraping tool, or by lapping the plates against each other. By starting with three plates of relative flatness, rubbing the plates against each other in alternating pairs to remove the high spots can yield fantastic results. The process can be completed in six steps, and then repeated until the desired level of flatness is achieved. In this visual explanation, the surface finishes of the three plates are exaggerated. Before beginning this process, the three plates (Red, Green and Blue) should be machined or ground to as flat a surface as possible, to remove all unnecessary lapping work. In addition, a fine abrasive compound is often used between plates to assist in material removal. Tom also has a great video series about this, which includes some compound and technique recommendations."

G. Brandt 1 #41 Posted December 26, 2019 No, it´s not a cake, not even the sculpture in the movie A Clockwork Orange and not the yellow canoe. Sorry to be boring, it´s only the bottom of a 3D printed hull maybe the biggest 3D print of a sail boat ever done so far, with a concave hull. We have now started to built the sail boat in full scale and it will hopfully be sailed into a lake during the spring 2020.
