Picking a J/24 as organ donor

Recommended Posts

I’m designing a daysailer which will use the keel and rig of a retired j/24.  I have a number to choose from.  Other than the condition of the components, are there reasons I should pick any age, color, etc.?

do you intend to use any of the hull other than the keel?

you're aware of the IC24 no?

Nope.  Just the keel and the rig.  The big glass bit will go into the dumpster, Barients and all.

If it's going to be a daysailer look for something with the running lights still installed. Most boats pulled off all of the lights and wires. If I remember correctly the top 6 inches of the keel (the Johnstone Bump) is fiberglass and part of the hull. You might end up with a shorter keel than expected.
