Quick story - NY's eve we are dining at our local Pho, (serve a bitchin Pad Thai plus other good stuff) and surprisingly not busy, speaking with owner and she and husband are like most I know came as boat people, guessing they were born after 1970.  So I asked if they would be closed on Lunar New Years and she said oh that's Tet.  It made me uncomfortable, for some years my company employed a number of Vietnamese and we celebrated Lunar New Year (learned quickly it is not Chinese New Year). A number of guys were ARVN vets, 2 won US bronze stars, nobody called it Tet.

Weird how some words just never lose their significance.  Thus the dark humor in my above post.

For me this means a flood of Chinese tourists in February.  Hope they don't get offended when I wear a mask, avoid touching them, and spray copious amounts of Glen 20 around them.

We like their money, don't want their fucking Virus.

It's new year's eve and my wife is making a traditional Chinese New Year's desert as I type. One advantage of a mixed marriage is you get a lot of holidays to support.

On a more serious note, this is the beginning of one of the big holiday weeks in China. Almost everyone is off work next week along with the two weekends. A major reason why they quarantined Wuhan when they did is to stop many tens of thousands of people in the city going elsewhere and likely even more people going from the big industrial centres to the east going home to visit their families in Wuhan. They only get to do it twice a year so it is a big deal.

The Chinese must had had American politics in mind - the new year is the Year of the Rat.

Why is the chinese new year a PA topic?

Hey Mods, suggest you move this to "Who Fucking Cares Anarchy" over on page 7.

Since we'll all be speaking Mandarin in a few years, it's not inappropriate. Trump is destroying the US, Putin is only interested on what he can do in his lifetime, but the Chinese play a much longer game.

Here is a cool vid on cooking "pounded babas" for the Chinese New Year.

And I got the joke above - I arrived in Viet just after Tet '68. Lots of surprises.

JeffBo, how about if you just STFU lest you reveal too much about your ignorance.

You're a bit late with that.
