Any news on what orgs are doing for their spring/summer series?

Recommended Posts

Curious if any updates have been put out for spring/summer series, especially for clubs in the Northeast starting in about a month or so?  Abandon races individually as it comes?  Abandon in chunks of weeks?

A few clubs that I know on the Chesapeake have canceled their spring series.  A number of weekend races have been postponed until August.

Yeah so with those Bay race postponements, are clubs just arbitrary grabbing weekends in August?  Because CBYRA holds their big meeting in January to deconflict all the weekend races, and it seems like it’ll fall apart if everyone just goes and sets their own schedule...

yeah, we basically have only two weekends in August and September for regattas to move to , so most of them in June are just cancelling altogether

Cancelled spring series and probably the Wed nite series since that starts in June. Looking to have the club open by August.
Ensign class Nationals in August were cancelled last week.

A lot of the April and May racing has been postponed for a month+ or cancelled. Some evening racing associations are considering rescheduling spring races into the fall.

In Cali we're aiming for resuming beer cans in late May and regattas in June, modified by no dock parties, no in-person skippers meetings, social distancing.....assuming they let us back on the water,  which is looking likely

Every event or race in the San Francisco Bay Area is either cancelled or postponed. So far the Pacific cup is cancelled, solo transpacific will be decided on this week. Our big favorite race "great Vallejo" is rescheduled for the fall.

Most things I hear of through June are cancelled in the Midwest. Not sure if this will carry over until July.

Toronto area is washout until (probably, at the earliest) some time in July, same for all of the north (Canadian) shore of Lake Ontario. Clubs are all pushing launch dates, yards are officially locked down so spring prep work pre-launch is not happening. LORC (6-regatta series which normally starts late May) has cancelled first two events. LOOR and LOSHRS (offshore racing) are cancelling early season events.

And all this is independent of high water level issues which may have serious impacts all over Lake Ontario, water levels are already approaching all-time high for this time of year. Tough times.

One thought; as things ease up perhaps in May-June, how about easing into single or double-handed races? Single-handed obviously is low risk proper social distancing, and double-handed required to be members of the same household and/or mutually isolated.

problem is the RC's. Most of them in our area are... umm.. in at least one high risk group. :)

I forgot to add; no RC. The RC could be a single or double-handed volunteer. If not, have a course agreed upon with fixed marks, GPS start times, and take your own finish time.

Just have some fun.
