Hogan throws hat in the ring for 24

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is weighing a bid for the presidency in 2024, embarking on a virtual book tour this month that will continue to elevate his national profile in Republican circles. Hogan, now in his second term, emerged this spring as a leading Republican voice for an aggressive response to the coronavirus pandemic. He delayed publication of his previously drafted memoir, “Still Standing,” by nearly two months because of the virus and added a section about dealing with the health emergency.

2024 will prove interesting assuming Biden wins. No one thinks he will run again and he might have retired or died even before 24, so either way there will be no incumbent and Hogan is very popular in heavily Democratic Maryland. He knows how to not be a partisan asshole ;)

I saw him on a Sunday talk show during the worst part of the pandemic and assumed he was a Democrat.  The GOP could do a lot worse.

He won’t make it out of the primaries.

He'll win Maryland with a horizon job. The other 49 states..............do they even know him?

This also depends hugely on the state of the Republican party.

Will it:

A - even still exist?

B - be Biden-fied back towards the center?

C - be bitter dead-end Trumpers?

Is there any question really? What do you think would make the ethnonationalist populism fire driving Trumpism burn out? Do you think the Trumpists will ever apologize and admit they were wrong? The greatest appeal of a Trumpism is never having to say you are sorry or admit fault.

C will not vote for Hogan, they would despise him.

Interesting.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Whitmer from Michigan giving it a go too.  She's done a fantastic job of managing the virus here while the far-right-wing nutjobs file petition after petition and court case after court-case to try to stop her from protecting us.  Economically she'll have a hard row to hoe unless it really picks up in the next 2 to 3 years.

I really like a lot of her responses and speeches too.  She tends to make bullshit-free and un-arguable statements.  Like "Covid 19 is not a political negotiating tool".

Trump really helped her when he called her "that woman from Michigan".

I sincerely think that whomever gets the nomination for VP from Biden is the most likely next candidate.

And Trump has a job approval that’s 91% amongst Republicans. Vs 33% amongst “independents” and 2% amongst Democrats.

Excellent....The wife and I (my wife is from Maryland) were talking about this possibility just a few days ago.

Hogan reminds me of Senator Charles Mathias 1969-87.  A Republican in a mostly democratic Maryland that put the people he represented first and the party second.   Therefore he has no chance on a national stage unless the GOP implodes in 2020.

Why would the 2% even call themselves Democrats? Surely they are just really dumb Trumpistas who thought they would help by going undercover.
