This is the best of Long Island Sound honesty

That was a pretty cool shot. A little shaky but not bad. If I were the owner (or any of the sailors) on that boat I would love to have it.

'Tiberon' little slow handling the gust, helm should have gone up a little, vang eased a little, then more if needed, instead of waiting to almost lose it and blowing the spin sheet

Just a comment from the peanut gallery

Taking Maui Punter’s new boat across the sound on Friday. Wind is light tomorrow and Thursday(rain), but Friday is clear and blowing around 14knots if the weatherman is correct.

You must have sailed closer to NYC where the sound pinches down to a few miles.

I served my time there thru the 70s at American Yacht Club, wooden Blue Jay 4524 - hand me down from big brother....

If it's still there, my initials are in the JAYC table that I understand is/was a display piece tacked to the wall.

Some of my greatest sailing memories come from that junior program.

Tweener to teenager - 12 weeks of 9-5 sailing, 7 days a week! On the weekends, you stood at the main dock and waited to be 'drafted'. There wasn't a family question on what was happening this weekend cause, we were going to the club!

I sailed with some greats, never knowing it...

Do programs exist like that anymore?

The dying Southwesterly is a thing to behold. The whole Sound looks like a puddle. Except it’s still got 2-3 knots of current. I grew up in Fishers Island Sound. You could set your watch by the morning sea breeze. Somehow it was always blowing 15-20kts for the Wednesday night Mudhead races.

I remember on many occasions it can pick up in the sound.  Remember doing one of the Gear Buster on the IOR-80 Congers. Talk about straining deck gear?!!

You may have sailed with his daughter then--if you are in your 60s. If you sailed with him it would have been that dock recruitment.

I'm 54.

I literally sailed every day for 12 weeks, every summer for 7 years there... Wake up, get to the club!!!

Fantastic experience, but I eventually moved west looking for wind!

Long Island Sound has great wind Nov through April. But only real watermen sail then ;-P

I've scary cold water windsurfed and hurricane sailed. Past tense at that shit is fine!

I had good experiences from that program, like helming a custom IOR (JLS), straight into a rising moon in the middle of the night as a 14 year old!

Masterfully fucking up a jibe set with a sideways spinny and later a severed spinny halyard - at night!

Yet, the kooks at the asylum still wanted me upfront!

Same Bubbles who lost a finger to a winch accident?  I sailed with him a few times on the Amazing Potato out of AYC in the '80s.  I remember him being a character (as was par for the course with that crew).

It was a golden age - for me!

I sailed with him on his Etchells on occasion!

There was a fleet of 210 or 110s and IODs back then that I also got drafted onto.

The 10s and my Blue Jay were the first 2 boats I ever planed on!

I spent too much time doing that to know its not '12 or so'....

5 -7 gusting to 8 maybe!! 10 and wow, what a day!

Sorry, I evacuated my house in Oregon today. I'm in a bad mood and wishing I never left the east coast 25 years ago but I also know: I'm here to stay...

So, I'm conflicted and maybe a little drunk!

He wants to hate me for hating Jews and black people because I talk about them with honesty.

So instead of worrying about it, I’m going to the bar about 500 feet away and get my crew drunk. I pay all the bills all the way, I’m that kind of Captain!
