Manhasset Bay

Recommended Posts

New to the area, need recommendations on marinas and clubs in Manhasset Bay and some local knowledge on navigation that may not be on the charts. Do mostly distance racing in LIS, some wednesdays and some cruising. Boat 42 ft, 7 ft draft. Thank you!

Local knowledge on navigation? Stay away from Execution Rocks and watch out for Big Tom, on the other side of City Island.

Speaking of Manhasset Bay, how about the fall series this year, someone spent over 200K on a new J sport boat and got beat by the same  boat that would beat him on Wed nites a couple of years back in his old J sport boat.

Except this time, that same boat was sailing non spin at fall series and had a better corrected time than the new high tech J boat sailing spin.

Good protected harbor. Two club options - one very low key and generally in the shallower draft end of the bay, the other a little fancier and in the deeper end.

Eat at Louie's for good seafood.

None of the marinas in there are stellar nor particularly bad.

The owner of the X-332 Eagle, Ernie can show you exactly where Big Tom is:ph34r:

Which club has better racing?

The Bay is small and I'm pretty sure you can participate in everything there regardless of which club you choose to join.  Even for winter sailing you can frostbite at Manhasset Bay YC if you're a member of Port Washington.  Historically MBYC hosts more regattas but that doesn't really matter.

Don't forget North Shore Yacht Club! They may not have a pool but they also don't have tennis-only members trying to take over.
