Chiliman 2 #1 Posted October 18, 2020 People, is there any difference in these boats?
cpt_757 7 #2 Posted October 18, 2020 German Frers designed 33 racer/cruiser in 80's which had nice roomy cabins. I believe Bruce Farr designed more aggressive racing boat.
Zonker 2,426 #3 Posted October 19, 2020 I've sailed on a Farr 33 of that vintage. It was where I learned about IOR death rolls.
Crash 533 #4 Posted October 20, 2020 let’s see, one was a design by Frers not necessarily to any particular rule and built by Carroll and the other was a design for IOR by Farr and built by Annapolis Custom Yachts https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/frers-33 https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/farr-33
Sebyseb 35 #5 Posted October 21, 2020 Frers designs are stable, kind at sea and roomy, I'd pick a Frers design over a Farr any day of the week, except for a Farr 30 on sunny & windy sunday.
dolphinmaster 83 #6 Posted October 21, 2020 for short-handing, the numbers say Frers, Ballast/Displacement 44 vs 31 with a marginally better SA/D, 20.67 vs 20.56. The Farr might be slippery underwater but you'll spend much more time sailing sideways and battling the breeze with any point of sail forward of the beam. Unless you live in driftathon bay Wi. Jono 41 #7 Posted October 29, 2020 Yep Farr better to try and find the 1020 design. Frac rig, an ORC/IRC bandit (true!), great cruiser, and good 2 handed. One of the nicest boats he ever did. A few made it over to the US. Bruce had one for himself.
