Missing Sailor Presumed Dead of Eastern Victoria

Recommended Posts

A sobering reminder of the risk we all take whenever we go offshore.

Nice bloke - seems he'd done a lot of dinghy sailing and crewing on larger boats. I was talking to him in the days leading up to his departure while giving my parents a hand with maintenance on their cruiser which he was berthed next to. Fintho, indeed a reality check, doesn't even have to be offshore. Watching your boat sail (drift) away would be a nightmare.

He broke strongly with superstition.

The 62-year-old New South Wales man left Hobart on Friday, November 13, heading for Eden on the NSW coast.

Leaving on a Friday, the 13th no less.

Very sad.

Very sad for all but it beats the shit out of dying on a golf course. Or a nursing home.

Sail on mate.

Yeah.  Very sad for all.  But truth be told, that's how I want to go out.

Just not for a few more years....

Sad news. He's the second unfortunate sailor to be lost overboard in the same vicinity this year. 2020 Sucks Bigly.
