Twitter has suspended 70,000 accounts since Friday

Quote

Twitter announced on Monday that in the wake of the Capitol assault, the company began on Friday "permanently suspending thousands of accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content." Since Friday, over 70,000 accounts have been suspended.

"These accounts were engaged in sharing harmful QAnon-associated content at scale and were primarily dedicated to the propagation of this conspiracy theory across the service," Twitter said in a statement.

Twitter said it is "continuing to aggressively deploy technology" to have potentially harmful tweets read by a person "to take action as quickly as possible on violative content."

Twitter also said tweets that are labeled for violations of our civic integrity policy will no longer be able to be replied to, liked or retweeted. But people will be able to quote tweet.

Twitter said that since last week, it had prevented certain terms from surfacing in Trends and search suggestions, and it said it would "continue to prioritize reviewing and adding context to Trends."

On Friday, Twitter permanently suspended President Trump "due to the risk of further incitement of violence." Since then, a number of conservative accounts said over the weekend that they were losing followers.

That should put them the rest of the way over the edge.

It appears to be swinging so far that it's going to go all the way to facts. :o

And it's funny to watch people now complain about losing followers for "some reason."

Here's a take on it.

I agree with Tapper - Reminds me of the people on this site that are obsessed with likes and dislikes

Al Qaeda is Sunni. Iran is Shia. Iran offered to fight Al Qaeda for us back in 2001 (A mistake on our part of not taking them up on it) Something smells a little fishy.

More than a little fishy. Of course those that would fall for Pompeo's BS are not knowledgeable enough to know that Islam has different varieties. many of whom hate each other.

Twitter suspends accounts every day.  Instead I think we need to look at "excess" accounts suspended.

So is the plan that Trumps leaves having started something using the same type of WMD narrative?   ie: make some shit up.

They don't care what happens as long as it fucks Biden over for a while. Patriots, they are.

If you are complaining that a high percentage of your followers were banned because they participated in hate speech, maybe you need to think about why so many of those types of people are following you.

They named Cuba a state sponsor of terror as well, as if the US gives a flying fuck about terror/Cuba, see e.g. Luis Posada Carilles.

Trump: Iran has WMD!

Reporter: How do you know?

Trump: We sold them to Iran in the 70s. Great deal. Not as good as my deals, though. My deals are the greatest. Many people are saying it.

Twitter tried to interfere in the Ugandan election by mass-banning certain accounts. So Uganda took the  step of leveling the playing field by banning Twitter altogether.

Ahead of the Ugandan election, we're hearing reports that Internet service providers are being ordered to block social media and messaging apps. We strongly condemn internet shutdowns – they are hugely harmful, violate basic human rights and the principles of the #OpenInternet.

Donald Trump’s term is 1,460 days long.

On day 1,449 Dorsey and Zuckerberg finally grow a pair and throw Trump and his delusional followers off.

Could the fact that Schumer is going to be Majority Leader have anything to do with it?

It could have a LOT to do with it, or, their attorneys just told them that there are State AGs building cases against them. I think it's more likely the latter.

It's pretty funny, that's all the valley is about. Pure capitalism at it's best and it's worst. Thinking there is some political bent to the leaders is pretty far off the mark.

I can’t possibly think of any reason Twitter and Facebook would suddenly start enforcing anti-violence rules and moderation requirements. It’s not like anything major happened over the last week.

What we should be angry about is why they let this go for so long.  The threats have been present for a long time and so have the lies.

Uganda doesn't like white liberals from USA interfering with an African election.

If Uganda wants to be in the same company as China, Iran, Syria and North Korea (the countries that ban FB completely) then they should go for it.  Not that it matters in NK, there is almost no internet access there - wonder what they are going to do if Elon Musk provides it for free?

Yep

One news commentator I saw said, "This is like locking the barn door after the horse has already gotten out" and the other talking-head reminded him "there are still plenty of bad horses in this particular barn."
