      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

Good night Catherine. I'm a bit in my cups.

But I am thinking of you tonight.

I wish I was there to snuggle with you.

Not a sexual thing. Just a love thing.

Good night sweet thing.

Elle... you seriously rock for pulling together to solve the challenging logistics just to get there. I tried looking at booking options again yesterday to get to Albany (or NYC airports + rental car) right after I got home from CO, but unfortunately I couldn't come up with anything that I could even come close to affording, either with cash and/or airline miles.

If the opportunity comes, please give Catherine a big (but light) hug from me. :)

Big kudos to Sol, Chris & Dan as well, obviously! Please share my thoughts with all of them.

Sol, if she would do that to a man as old as you claim to be, she's obviously feeling somewhat better ;)

Good morning, Catherine. I'm glad to hear you had a great visit with those two rabble-routers. I can just imagine you guys laughing and keeping everyone awake with little outbursts followed by Shhh! LOL

Too much eulogy and good byes here folks! I am still here and i refuse to let this take me. There is hope and what is happening to me, as frightening and heart breaking as it is, is what happens to all of us : NO ONE knows when there time is up. All we have is the NOW.

Interesting day at work today. At our department's quarterly safety meeting, our guest speaker was an exercise instructor and wellness guru who is also a survivor of late-stage colon cancer. This is a woman whose husband had been told to get her affairs in order. Yet she is very much alive, looking and feeling great. Just goes to show... don't give up!

Cath slept most of the day so we are chillin out now in the dayroom/lounge and eating and munching sugary things. Today is the bday of another caregiver we have befriended here and we had cake and brownies!

Good day, Catherine.

I got out the guitar and sang, "Dante's Prayer" for you last night. I haven't played guitar or sang since New Years Eve.

Kerry said it sounded great and that, to her, it spoke of, "I'm still here," when the song says, "Please remember me," at the end.

I spent some time remembering you, that you are still here.

Hanging with Catherine, kmccabe, Rockhead, The Pebble, and The Rockette and Catherine's sister and father.

We've had a great day and the room is decorated, and Catherine got dressed up as evidenced by photo evidence below.

Much laughter and merriment.

Catherine says "There are days when I have 2 bad hours, but it used to be I'd have only 2 good hours. That change alone makes such a difference, especially when coupled with the uplifting support from you guys."

Message from Catherine's sister for all SAers considering a visit :

Please tell folks that if they are on the fence about coming for a visit, they should get over it and come. I know it feels awkward to just show up, and chances are good that visitors will see her experiencing some intense pain at times, but the joy that she gets out of it far outweighs the discomfort that any of us could possibly feel.

Tell people to be ready to hang out in the day room if she's in a rough place when they show up, because things usually smooth out within about a half hour or so, which is how long it can take for pain medication to kick in.

If you've ever spent even a little time with Catherine, you know that she does not stay in one place for very long. The fact that she has become almost immobile from this horrible disease might be one of the hardest emotional hurdles. She wants to go and do and be...and that's just really hard right now. Tell people to bring their lives to her and spend a couple hours if they can. No need to call or message ahead of time. Just show up. Really.

Really.

+1. This is essentially what the Pebble, Rockette and I did today. Hung out for about 3 hours or so. 4 hours later, I still have a warm glow inside. Catherine is just fucking awesome. Full of fight and good humor. You are an incredibly strong person with a huge heart Catherine, I'm SO glad we were able to come for a visit! It was humbling to hang out with 3 awesome women (MSG, Bowgirl & MSSister). KMcCabe and I are just typical boring guys.

Maybe I'm just sappy, or maybe it's because there were 4 Anarchists and 2 mini-Anarchists in the room, but I really felt that the love and support from everyone here is palpable in Catherine's room. The quilt is even more amazing in person, there's the SA burgee hanging from the IV tower, there's the Women of SA calendar signed by so many of us. You can feel the good vibes in the room.

Here's one more photo, the Pebble, Catherine, and the Rockette (L to R). Thanks to MainSheetSister for fucking up C's hair just for the photo! tongue.gif Yup, they're a lot alike, the 2 sisters.

20120331_205847.jpg

I'm looking forward to heading back in a couple of weeks after some sailing trips. I have to go back because I didn't get to meet Dan the Man. And we're going to throw a kick-ass SA 43rd birthday party for Catherine in July, right C? If you're still stuck in the same joint (I hope not!), there's a great room for it, and I'm sure we can get ourselves thrown out. laugh.gif

Hi Catherine, it is a lovely crisp sunny day here in the south west UK. I had to go to Bath to pick up my youngest son at the end of his university term. I had some great tunes playing and was sending you positive, warm sunny thoughts on the drive over.

I've never been on a sail boat but I am an avid SWIMMER. I've been admiring the vitality of your forum community [aka lurking]. I'm an old capitol region friend of Catherine's. I always knew she was an awesome person. My estimation has grown exponentially.

I was in the room yesterday when Rockette and the Pebble brought their mood elevating magic to the room. Catherine was smiling wide immediately and I know that there hadn't been enough time for the meds to kick in. Magic.

Thanks for letting me hang out and experience a few of your soaring spirits. PEACE

Morning Catherine & anyone with you,

We have a 4 day week this week for Easter yay!

Normally I would be on a 3 day race over Easter - out in Brisbane to Gladstone - watching the stars - marvelling at how light it can actually be out there & wondering what Boomberries is up to in their Southern straits race.

I LOVE it that we are out there at the same time!

This year I came back from China & lydia is all organised to go so I'll drop him off & have a few girly days with the sewing machine I think! Chick flicks & the odd BBC hysterical, chocolate for breakfast, that kind of thing hee hee!

Let us know what you lot are up to & how busy the room is! Hope you have some real smooth days xxx

Unless of course you would like to follow her fine example...

MSG - ran a 15K race -- the Colon Cancer Challenge -- on Sunday morning for you & my uncle (also diagnosed with colon cancer in January), before going out to sail the last day of the winter season. It was a good day! Hope yours is a good day too.

Good Morning Catherine. Hope your night was restful.

Understand and know that we all love you and keep you in our thoughts. . .

Its a beautiful morning in New York - look out your window and see it all.

Such a beautiful day, so happy to share Saturday with you, MSSister, Swimmer, Bowgirl, Rockhead, Pebble and Pebble's sister and your mom, dad and brother..

Did you find more Pez?

Easter Bunnies still OK?

Those rabbits? The kids bowling ones I mean. I thought they had batteries at first....

One at a time girlfriend. B)

Love you.:)

Good morning Catherine. I hope you can find some peace today. I'm looking for some myself on this awful anniversary. Fed-Ex me a box of your strength if you can.

Thinking of you.

Good morning Catherine. Thanks for the pic of the bunny mask and the sunglasses. You made me laugh so loud my coworker stopped by to see what was up.

Oh, she's got chocolate bunnies galore... Two big one (if they survived) and a dozen or so smaller ones.

Then she's also got these insane Happy Pills courtesy of her Bowness ..

Hey Catherine, just wanted to say hi. And since I just repainted the powder room I still need to put my metal frogs from the islands back up on the wall. They remind me of you since Dan said you liked the frog stamps on the postcard.

Know that you're in my thoughts as I'm sure about a gazillion other folks!

hello,

I've never been on a sail boat but I am an avid SWIMMER. I've been admiring the vitality of your forum community [aka lurking]. I'm an old capitol region friend of Catherine's. I always knew she was an awesome person. My estimation has grown exponentially.

I was in the room yesterday when Rockette and the Pebble brought their mood elevating magic to the room. Catherine was smiling wide immediately and I know that there hadn't been enough time for the meds to kick in. Magic.

Thanks for letting me hang out and experience a few of your soaring spirits. PEACE

Will

Post # 1 usually results in loud calls to show us your / your significant others tits

That will have to be between you and her. All I ask is that you leave her in a good mood ;-)

BTW,I am inspired to eventually go sailing one way or another. I love the analog nature of the sport. It's not about giant engines which to me is WAY cool. Have a great day people !

CC,you're still at the top of my energy upload list. Sending green light from my heart chakra. Love you !

Yes, admittedly, like my friend Will, aka swimmer, I'm not a sailor(tho I was in a sunfish once, heheh) but I do look forward to taking a ride out with those who would have me....

I want you all to know that I packed out of Catherines apt in Voorheesville. I have returned to my home in Mahopac NY to get back to work, pay my bills and also to give her family the space they need. With a little luck our dear MSG will be returning to her home soon. Her mom says they are working on making it happen this week! At that time, her sister and family and caregivers will be there and so the time had come for me to move on after being there since september. Leaving was anything but easy yet the time had come. Her family knew it before i did but was too kind to say anything since they truly are grateful for the time I spent there. Catherine also understands and knows I will be back to visit.

I'm not done here yet either so count on my 2 cents from time to time. Rockhead my brother, I too was very bummed that I didnt get to meet you and the pebble on saturday but I was so thrilled to see what an incredible day Catherine enjoyed with all of you. It was obviously priceless...

I wish all of you the best of health for you and yours! Type to you soon!

sending out PEACE LOVE & STRENGTH

A good and gentle man, a sailor who sailed my current waters before I arrived here, is going down as I write this. If you can spare a kind thought or two, please send it or them toward Allen Jones' space.

We'll hold it open as long as possible. Blessings.

Wish I had a profound message, but all I can say is that I reminded my friends about you all while we were sailing. I believe we sent some positive thoughts your way, hopefully the wind will bring them to you.
