      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

      Moderation Team Change   06/16/2017

After fifteen years of volunteer moderation at SA, I will no longer be part of the moderation team. The decision to step aside is mine, and has been some time in the works but we did not wish to announce it in advance for a number of reasons. It's been fun, but I need my time back for other purposes now. The Underdawg admin account will not be monitored until further notice, as I will be relinquishing control of it along with my administrative privileges. Zapata will continue on as a moderator, and any concerns or issues can be directed to that account or to the Editor until further notice. Anyone interested in helping moderate the forums should reach out to Scot by sending a PM to the Editor account. Please note that I am not leaving the community, I am merely stepping aside from Admin responsibilities and privileges on the site.

Anyone have the dates for the State titles in April i think? Looked but cant find them!

Does anyone know when the state titles are going to be on. And if they are being held at yeppoon again. Some people need to plan early for these things.

Must thank the guys off the boats "The Point" and "Logistics" for there attempt to pull us off the reef, there motors just wernt quite big enough to do the job, and combined with big tide flow and there lack of manuvering ability made it a bit hard, but at least they stopped, and stood by till the Air Sea Rescue turned up. One of them had to motor out into the channel to radio Raby Bay air sea rescue as none of us could contact them from where we were stuck as we were right in close to the headland.

Does anyone know if there is still a rescue service at Dunwich?

No real damage done to the boat, only took the gelcoat of the starboard side of the bulb, sailed home after with no problems, went the kite and had a ball sitting on around 13-15 knots topping out at over 16 in waterloo bay, the good kite run changed my mind to selling the thing!

Yeah one way of describing it barney... Went out on the old AAPT grundig today for a yacht today, Started with the guys that were heading to caloundra and back. Got half way with the NE's and thought we would head back, set the shute and sat around 14 knts. Seen the breeeze line coming straight for us so we dropped the kite by the time we got the head in the bag we had a good 28 knts on the nose, hit 34 not long after. Sailed back to river gate with just number 2 headie sitting around 12 knts. Was a great day and great experience for myself, hopefully get another ride on the boat soon.

PUNCH BACK INTO IT. How often in a yacht race do you do 180 degree turn at a mark and not either put a spinnaker up or take one down. Bloody paiful race worked all the way out there to turn around and work all the way back.

I was on the beneteau Onyava. The change hit us rounding the fairway mark so after beating all the way there we had to beat all the way back.

Got an email last night saying there was another bloke looking at buying an E7 in Brisbane. With the possibility of 6 racing on Sunday 9th March and 3 boats still not that keen to go sailing, makes for good fleet racing.

Manly CC Race 2 & 3 Sunday 9th.

On Saturday 8th is the 2008 Ultimate Sails Sir Ellis Murphy night race Series. Race Starts at 1600. Cat 5N. All boats welcome.

Not sure about Airlie yet, they will probably do there own thing as its not an australian sportboat assoc event, i think a few would baulk at the extra fee as well. Just keen to get something going up here and see if a decent system can be eveloved to get away from the biased shitfight the clubs have running up here at the moment. Check the ASBA website for the measurement details and info on the rule/assoc ect!

Was it fucking windy today or what!

Postponed the race start till the breese built a bit more than started it in about 20-25knots then after about 10 minutes abondoned the bloody thing! But only by radio, not by putting a boat at one of the rounding marks! So us and a few Mumm 30's and a couple of lead belly's ect (which have the crew outside the boat on the rail away from the radio) kept racing, and it got windier! Archmbult 30 dropped its rig, a couple of good wipe outs by the mumms under kite, we wiped out when the snotter let go but a preety quick downwind run the first time. Got even windier for the 2nd lap (reports of 37 knots, but who knows?), and of course, No finish boat!

The Velocitek Phil has lent us was showing some good numbers downwind but was proving just how much we were going sideways when the breese really was in upwind, great little bit of kit, if i can work out how to download the track i will!

No results obviously and no other sportboats of the 5 that we saw venturing out came for a sail out of waterloo bay.

Bring on a daisy day!

There were 60 boats and 12 kept racing, you are a dill. We have a tiny fixed radio well away from the crew and we heard what was going even though we don't have a hand held radio which is accessible in the cockpit.(Have a look around to decide your fate) There were no results because the race was called off. We lost the top batten out of the main which meant we were flogging it to death as much as the Magoo does! We decided that a full esky was beckoning so ran for the comfort of the harbour. I wish I had you income Slapper!!! We have brains dude to save our gear for races that count!!!

Best of luck to you you rockstar!!!

They postponed the start from triangle to a passage race because it was hard work out there to even lay a coarse let alone sail around it. Volunteer your boat to lay a better coarse or stop dissing the guys who put in the time to allow you the luxury of racing.

Rant over, Goggs your loosing it dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuckn hell! You been hanging out with Rolls?

Not dissing anyone, i didnt think i mentioned having a problem with the course either, we kept sailing and could have also come in but decided to have a day out! No problem there either i thought! And by the way, we had brains and saved our sails for the races that count, a 6 yo set isnt really the set i would be using in the races that count!

Sorry if i offended you, somehow!

Believe it or not we don't all have anarchy on 24/7, if you want me to comment on yardsticks (my that was a big word for you to type all on your own) I am happy to. Post away your latest whinge - i have had plenty of discussion about this with Barman face to face and I am happy to be entertained by your thoughts on the matter. Why don't you start with a full listing of all the regattas that the boat in question has won, then follow it up with the results that it has the boat winning on PBH in the same race that Barman (compare against a well sailed SB) has won on IRC - or is IRC a cheat's rating system also? When you have analysed that data then advise everyone what time you are investing/volunteering to get SMS up and running in Qld.

BTW what happened on the weekend, were you 'unlucky' again?

As for name calling I refer to it more as "stating a fact".
