      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Did they? Or are they "Stating a Fact" which would make it OK in your books!

You didnt just add 2 together as everyone else has did you?

How come on this "Open forum" you only fly back at 1 of the posters with the queery and not all? Mmmm!

Weak!

Keep the name calling, one side responces comming, the handicapping of Sportboats needs this sort of promotion, otherwise the TYA will rule again!

They postponed the start from triangle to a passage race because it was hard work out there to even lay a coarse let alone sail around it. Volunteer your boat to lay a better coarse or stop dissing the guys who put in the time to allow you the luxury of racing.

Rant over, Goggs your loosing it dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I make a suggestion. My Club due to an idiot who tried to sue because he couldn't see if the Race was going to be called off or not from the water - and yes there is a thing called a phone.

Anyway to avert possible dramas we installed two rotating lights on the Starting Clock, these can also be mounted on the Clubs Duty Boat, and the message it illustrates is pretty straight forward.

Amber flashing Light - Storm Warning current.

Red Flashing light - Race has been abandoned.

They're much more visable than flags.

We have off the beach boats as well that may or may not have launched from the Club. Our Club racing is also Cat 7 so many boats don't have radios.

Long range forecast for IRC states looks good.

BTW I ran CBH numbers and first went to Raptor the Stage III, Magoo then us. If Raptor sailed off 1(Which they should) they still would have won. All corrected times were within 2mins.

It was an awesome day on the water today, makes you proud to be a Qlder. Handicaps have to catch up eventually.

As for the IRC States, that forecast looks pretty good for the small boats, 6-pack per race TBA Vs RR - it's on! I just hope we push each other hard enough to ensure a podium finish to a boat under 8 metres. The big boys will just love that.

And did i read it right that you have to be teathered after sunset as well now Barman? What is the go with that? The small boats might be becoming a threat eh!

Great day on the water yeaterday, not blowing the crabs off the rocks for a change! Havnt seen any times yet but the fleet was spread out a long way in the end, couldnt see first place over the horison and the E7's looked to be just back far enough for a change, and Stage 3 charged back into contention on the 2 sail from hope banks, was a 4 and a half hour race but.

actually they can't in cat 5, they need to keep it in operating position - thought we sorted all this sh!t out with the M24 guys at ABRW last year. Also, the M24 does not have liffelines fitted so will also have to wear harnesses as per the NOR. Might have to ensure this is highlighted at the briefing.

Another vendetta against sportsboats!!! RQYS has added a clause to NOR that any boat out after dark will have to wear not only PFD's but a harness tethered to the yacht! I've done numerous S2C's, 100 milers on Billy cart, bloody twilight races run out of Rq and there were no questions.

Sorry but the whole situ smells to me!!

Dam it I'm starting to sound like Slapper ;)

Harnesses or PFD's Rolls??

Sailing in the dark - both for this event. I know Barman thinks it is a vandetta against boats without lifelines but there was a serious safety concern coming from YQ with the likliehood of 2 races finishing at night (especially for small boats).

This is a YQ event hosted by RQYS and they have worked together to find the best solutiion. The definitions of smooth water etc were debated long and hard and no-one wanted to be sued basically.

It is sad we gt so bitter and twisted about safety, harnesses won't slow you down......... don't let this detract form what is shaping up to be an awesome event with a cracker fleet entered.

Mmmmmmm safety my arse why don't we were harnesses for twilight races then.

Just make sure that M24 races with the motor on the back and not stowed below. Its in the bluebook.

They better not use their hiking lines either.

I agree with having the outboard on the back instead of down below even though it was aproved by Ox but not cat 5.

but i cant understand the non hiking, the boat is rated under IRC with the hiking straps and Ox has also aproved the hiking straps so whats the big issue with it Barman, you cant tell me that your crew will not be hiking.

Its the hiking aids i think that is the issue! GS has the rule numbers it conflicts with!

Our problem is not the hiking aids or the outboards (although they are both debatable ) and I know ox has been to the powers to be with these issues our problem is with the harnesses and how they can enforce us to where these as a safety issues when a boat will be sailing around without an outboard in an operateable position is this not more of a safety issue then us wearing harness?

Yer i agree with that Barman.

But i'am getting a bit tired of the old hiking issue, everyone does it so why do we have to keep bringing it up time and time again or do we all sell our boats and get SB3s/M20s so we dont have this issue.

Don't know of any BS 23 that is rated for IRC but for this event they would need to meet cat 5n and in addition, as per the nor wear visible pfd's at all times and harnesses if racing at night.

The outboard motor will be required to stay in the operating position as per any other cat 5 event.

As for the hiking aids, well who really cares? They are rated for IRC globally with these fitted and the E7 will have something coming back from teh base of the mast to ummmmm "hold onto" aka hike from.

Importantly, the M24 will require pfd's and harnesses if racing at night just like the E7 and the lyons.

Barman if you have a issue with YQ and their desire to ensure a safe event they would welcome your feedback.

Well I spoke to YQ and they new of the Sfight but were not responsible for the rule being added. It all comes from everyones mate on the 7.5m long boat. The RQ race committee were having a hard time with it all so I didn't pester them too much;).

On a lighter note Zena aka Spirit of Qld has entered, will the be able to sail around Peel? It draws 4.5mtrs. That will be funny to see. My boat is shorter than its boom haha. I bet we will have more piss on board though.

I got a list of hcaps if it stays lite we are def looking good.

not quite correct, they are rated for IRC, by RORC, but outsida class they race under ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (unamended)

two DIFFERENT organisations.

globally, if they race in a non class event with RRS 49.1 UN-amended they can be disqualified, just as if running trapezes

IRC DOES NOT replace the ISAF racing rules of sailing, it could amend them, but that's not the case with RRS 49.1.

who cares? anyone ovetaken by them that has not added trapezes or hiking lines i suspect,

referring to the earlier topic angle, correct they are not lifelines, which go right arounf a boat, the hiking aids are at about Beam Max only

Ox should check his shit

the pther point is IRREGULAR lifelines ( tampered or 'loose lowers' like the 'hiking lines' ) have been banned from IRC events before, that is the Sydney Hobart on 44.7s

Also boats in NZ have been DSQ'd by the race commitee.

they're out, no question about it

it has to be nipped in the bud early, or we'll ALL have to fit them and buy the matching body harness.

we DO NOT want that in our racing

About time you piped up GS, some of these guys seem to think they can get away with anything. Loose lifelines are in the same league as hiking aids!!!

Now I'll right all that down now for the protest.

So what is the definition of TAUT LIFELINES?

I dont think the hiking lines are an issue here, having sailed on a melges a few times it is so unconfortable to hike without the body harness that you end up with bruising not my idear of sailing and very hard to drink beer, and the only time you will see the big hiking will be at class events.so as far as the IRC states go they wont be hiking any harder than anyone else on the padock.

And i think they are safer than boats without lifelines at all.

If the police on this issue from last time the M24 raced IRC is entered for this weekend you probably wont have to bother!

Depends how seriously the Brisbane fleet take the State Titles!

Of course they will, their line is looser than a legal IRC boats lower lifeline

and that's without the pelvic armour on

Its' illegal, and we don't want the yank torture hell hiking here, it's a ancient hangover from J24s where all the crew hiked and the skipper attended traveller, sheet and helm, Stupidity in this age of fast alternative methods

look at the fantastic performing, legs-in, relatively comfortable T7

you want to see a T7 turn up with Yank style hiking shyte on the gunnel to maintain it's advantage ??? ( then the whole fleet will have to follow suit ? )

It's illegal, NIP IT IN THE BUD NOW

Good work Barman. The breeze looked like it was dying so that would have suited the bigger boats better.

True, we slid down the ratings in the last 3rd of the race - hopefully we get a strengthening breeze in the afternoon/evening/night today in the long race so we can gt a better result.

Little boats didnt fair as well today, long race in only 12knots top breese at one stage, most of the race around 10knots or less! Had a cruisy day on the big boat in a long soldiers course! Very close in div 1 with boats only seconds apart on corrected time, needed to be 2 seconds faster to beat the Oceanburo thing!

Are any E's going to be around for Wintersun?

Pretty sure there will be 5 Brissy boats, + Billy goat, and I will talk to the Omen boys and try and get them.

Just dropped the shit box that I crewed on in the B2B back at the club ( Southport ) to find out that Tommy has sold Liquid Tactics.

The knew owner is Bonner. He is the sail maker at Quantum sails here on the Gold Coast.

He was telling me that Tommy dropped it off to the olds place this weekend.

As for the price it was around what tommy was asking.
