      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

Nice line up. Could you say that the racing in Melbourne in the 40-50 foot range is better than Sydney for once?? I don't think there are any new IRC orientated boats being built for Sydney owners (other than Yendys which was launched late last year).

Sure will be interesting to see how the Cougar boys go against the Quest and Wot Yot at Hamo. They have the newest generation boat (probably with the highest rating of the three Tps and it certainly won't be the gift rating they had in the previous beach ball) but less big boat experience than the Sydney based boys.

Another big question is whether there be enough room at the SYC bar for all the big boat owners egos come summer? Someone's sure get to hurt! Ouch.

Do u think the resurgence is due to the number of interclub events we now have in Vic, eg ORCV winterseries, Range series, audi top of the bay, lipton cup, dockland invitational and skandia week. Seem to spend a lot more time away from local club racing competing in a higher standard.

Building on what giddy said, how's this for a potential line up for Skandia Geelong Week.

Likely Boats include -

Cougar (TP52)

Living Doll (Cookson 50 - Fixed Keel)

XLR8 (RP46)

Secret Mens (RP46)

Flirt (new Corby 49)

Limit (previous Corby 49)

QR (Cookson 50 canter with canard)

Beau Geste (RP45)

Chutpah (new RP40)

Shogun (new Rogers 46)

Dekadence (DK46)

New Geelong DK46 (Don't know what its called though)

Previous Shogun/now SA boat (DK46)

Georgia (Farr53)

Wild Oats (RP66)

Now, if only the Sydney boat could embrace the event, we could add -

Quest (TP52)

Wot Yot (TP52)

Yendys (RP55)

Wild Joe (RP60)

Even without the Sydney boats, the racing would have to be sensational. Their presence would be icing on the cake. Is anyone in G'town trying to get these boats down here??

All I know is that Nick Bartels has brought Gomez (the Sydney 47CR), the new Chutzpah apparently will be ready is 6-8 weeks, the new Flirt is on track for November launch (according to Corby's website the hulls have been joined), the Dolly may not make it up North and another Farr 52 (in addition to the Farr 52 already here and Farr 53 on its way) may soon be on its way for a SYC owner.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Mr Coombs has ordered the SYC marina to be dredged for a new boat??

Over and Out.

Spoke with the Shogun boys at Southport and they were, apart from being very pissed, were extremely happy with the boat and it's first major hit out. The bar talk had her doing 28 knots.

Parked for an hour at Coffs which lost them the race on IRC.

Very nice bit of Thailand kit. Even the Quantum sails look the shit.

They managed to beat Quest (TP52) and Brindabella across the line.

Happy chappies indeed.

Agree with that statement Don. Had a couple of nasty bumps in the last few months and heard about plenty more.

How deep does it need to be with the influx of more and more big boats to SYC?

Extasea ( DK 46) is now ready to splash. rig went in yesterday and final prep happened today. Drop in water Friday morning and start testing Systems and rig tune up happens Saturday...good times ahead in the Winnerbago!

first hit out will be Hastings.

Dekadence was also scheduled to be in the keel pit behind us but to my knowledge is still in Port Welshpool. maybe waiting for a S/Easterly?

Pickles, I would assume the TP would be a hell of alot quicker than the "Dirty Sanchez", & Living Doll & the new Flirt and the rest of the melb fleet ;)

Hey dude, if the rating aint as high as a TP52 they won't have to be as fast. I see the Dolly's new rating is 1.304 so the TP has to give her shitloads of time. And by the way, what the "f" are the gold boat doing with a bopwsprit. Don't you have to have a fast boat before you istall one of these??

Howdy Vic dudes, howd everyone go at Hammo? Anything good to report?

What happenned to XLR8? didn't seemup to the usual standard

Is the Dolll happy with the mods?, The guys on Georgia are probably used to a fairly different style of boat- obviously feeling their way a bit, but did they have fun on their new one anyway?

Is HSMB OK? Whos fixing it?

QT why didn't Shogun sail, or was it not there or something

didn't get there this year so any goss is good goss

XLR8 is past its UBD now, even with Savvo driving. Wanna buy it. See Dorro...

Georgia guys feeling their way? Nah, Willo, Anus and the ex Bacardi mob would be happy on any boat with a big fridge :P

HSMB definitely not OK and the story is Harts may do the repairs in Mornington.

Shogun, the new Rogers 46 one, had rig damage early on and pulled the pin.

Living Hell also just a tad off the boil after the mods- perhaps needs a bit more time to get it back on pace. Maybe the Q boat was just sailed a bit better this time?

XLR8 is a little bit dated, seemed to fall into "rate low, go slow" trap.

HSMB is a mess, best to write it off as per XLR8 reults.

Doll seemed good in light conditions

Shogun had some slight damage, there was a recall on all Rogers masts and deemed it unwise to continue

Georgia struggled but those guys always have a good time. Loved them in Bacardi (wooden ship ,iron men)

Laurelle went better

Transit,

exstract from Melbourne to Hobart site

"At 21st August 2007, there are 53 boats in total, with 16 boats from Tasmania and 1 from South Australia, who already have said that they're likely starters for the December races.

The Victorian boats are a bit slower off the mark but many of those are away at Hammo at the moment and we expect significantly more boat-owners to register their interest once Hammo is out of the way."

It's going to be a great race.

Credit where its due gladly Giddy but you were on a one way track in ideal conditions for your boat. You were on probably the only boat in the fleet actually designed with IRC in mind. A win on Performance h'cap in your first race where your tcf is no more than a guess on the part of the ORCV handicapper - wow! Remember, Laurelle did the same thing in her first offshore race with ORCV and surprise surprise, she was using delivery sails too! What does that tell you about performance handicapping?

Not to denigrate your performance too much, well done in the new boat and I am sure you will continue to do well but put it in perspective FFS

Agreed about PHD but it is still a win, you can only beat the boats that were there, so speculation about how it would go against any other boats is absolute BS. So winning by a big margin over some pretty reasonable performers on IRC in a 6 hour race is OK, the conditions were good for the DK and it should have won and guess what it did!! So I think that constitutes a good result. The PHD handicap was based on Shogun and Dekadence unlike Laurelle which did not have a performance history, also Laurelle was way off the pace on IRC in her first race. So once again a comparison is a bit silly and puerile.

Well done to eXtasea and particularly Bucky, one of the nice guys in the sport.

Absolutely a win is a win and they can enjoy the pickle dish as much as they will the hard fought ones.

The point of the comparison with Laurelle is that both boats won their first ORCV offshore race with delivery sails. You would have to assume that the handicapper didn't know the boats would race with delivery sails and didn't determine the handicaps on that basis. That both boats won under such circumstances is, therefore, a valid comparison and indicates a gift handicap; historically a problem with new boats coming into the ORCV PHD fleet.

Or are you telling me the performance handicap is right and the boat won't actually go any faster with exotic race sails? :o

Agree re Bucky - cool dude! Is he still a fleet owner or has Ex-Extasea moved on?

Shogun and Dekadence were around 1065-1080 during their time so handicapper gave XTC 1070, hardly a "gift" as form was on the board unlike Laurelle.

Bucky still a fleet owner.

Can't believe I am having a discussion about the merits of PHD (shudder). Must get out more!!
