      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

We got you this time, you bastards! Why the anger, you ask? Because every time we do one of these contests, you smart asses get it right within minutes. Let's see how smart you are this time. Again, first guess with the correct who, what and where gets the prize, this time brought to you by our friends at The Sailing Pro Shop. As we like to say, have fun.

Reminds me of my second boat.. a Hunter 19, which I completely hated as soon as I started crewing on a fleet of J/24s... Happy to say I don't have it any more..

So... probably a 24-26' boat.. shoal draft or centerboard, sprit (!)... looks sooo much like an O'Day 280... but that retarded wheel on a toy binnacle.. I give up.. It's a boat that will make someone happy, until they drive a J/24...

Mac 35R.

Mac Gregors first attempt to an IRC optimised offshore racer.

Rumors that Mac and Hunter teams collaborated closely in creating this racing machine.

Strong Hunter influence on stern design and inboard engine installation as Mac design

team had no experience in this area other than outboards.

Radical move towards providing stability with water ballast only.

Quite right... the Sydney 32 was their worst effort and it's a beauty compared to this thing... check out the deck coaming around the cockpit. And a teak bump stip. Ugly.

But wait... I think it's a sportboat! It has a bowsprit!

Catalina anyone?

It's small. Notice the narrow side decks, small winches and wheel. Only 3 stanchions so probably no more than about 30'.

Sprit so probably not a Catalina (never made one before?)

Not an enormouse ass, so not a Hunter

But something about it says "American boat", not European

small factory - no stacks of hulls in background... I'm out of ideas

I would like to say, that all my friends (you all) should buy one of these boats please. When you do, tell them H20 sent you. That way I will get my 500 bucks each per the incentive program. Please buy today.

Actually I kinda like this boat. Ya somewhat catahuntalumbia, wheels an option I wouldnt choose, rub rail very catalina, huntery windows, too much freeboard, not enough side deck BUT really not bad overall. Should be a very roomy 28er. I like it.

If she was priced right I could see her being a fine club racer/cruiser. Definately a move in the proper direction. Could fit a 44" wheel I suppose but kinda silly.

But how much? How heavy? Mast material?

remember, H20 sent you.

That smells like China.

But since I haven't got a clue where in china, lets say Elizabeth, Colorado.

SHIT!!!!

I never knew so many Navel Architechs read the front page and than make a comment. Whew....I wish I could just look at a boat from a country mile and tell how slow it is. Especially since you can't see the bottom, never mind the fact it doesn't have it's keel, rudder, or even it's rig. All you genius's will have to inform us idiots how you do it.

I like the open transom. The sprit looks cool. Not too sure about getting to bow (but since I have never seen the bow of a boat in years, really who cares hahha). I hate the wheel but I hate 99.9% of ALL wheels on boats. The hand rails, cabin top and shape say cruiser. No runners (or no runner winches).

Does look a lot like Columbia though. Not a Bene or Catalina, Hunter has no sprit boats. I'll go w/40' Columbia.

Actually at the Shanghai International Boat Show it had been fitted with pulpit and pushpit with seaats on the quarters.

You are right it is a lifting keel and outboard powered and definately built in China.

Not a race boat by any means but not designed as such but as a voluminous cruiser with a prodder.

As a quarter ton owner not my cup of tea but for the cruising market appears to be a lot of boat for the money.

It would be nice if somewhere on their website they would list the displacement/ballast.....

Displacement looks to be 4,435lbs. Using this value and 25.1' for LWL and 456 square feet for the sail area produces the published D/L and SA/D. Ballast is not available because neither the ratio nor the actual value is published.

I don't get it.

The boat appears affordable. Kevin Dibley did the design and Chris Mitchell did the rig. Plus it is a trailerable family cruiser that looks like it will do fine against the Hunters and Catalinas on Wednesday night.

What's the fucking beef? The wheel? Someone said it is an option for crying out loud.

Man this sport screwed up. Someone steps up to the plate and builds what appears to be an affordable family boat and all you guys do is shit on it.

Opinions are like assholes. Everone has one and they all smell.

Finally there looks like there is an affordable alternative to the Mac, Catalina and Hunter. New families are not heading for the race course right off the bat. They need to learn the ropes. If you shits had your way they would all be hanging their little kids on the rail of a Melges.

You do the sport no justice with this attitude. But this isn't anything new. Its been around since I was a kid. My wanker is bigger that yours and if you disagree I'll piss on your leg.

Lots of people looking at the forum and not a whole lot of discussion? Granted it doesn't look like an all out racer but could be a nice alternative to the small catalina or hunter as the family mini cruiser/sailor. Thoughts anyone? Backstay thing - hope they aren't going the Hunter no backstay route. I'm not a big fan of the no backstay idea.
