      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

Their pre-season dominance is continuing. Best team in the league until it counts.

If anyone follows Tank McNamara, this week's strip is about the Lions.

Lions slowly building depth across the board

Look at the variety of moves they have made this offseason:

Swapped CBs Leigh Bodden and Travis Fisher for Anthony Henry, Phillip Buchanon and Eric King. That's an improvement.

Exchanged Dan Campbell and Michael Gaines for Brandon Pettigrew, Will Heller and Dan Gronkowski. Upgrade.

Special teams should be better with the additions of the return guys we mentioned, professional coverage guys such as Cody Spencer, King and Terrelle Smith.

There's more depth on the offensive line with Jon Jansen, Daniel Loper, Toniu Fonoti, Dylan Gandy, Kirk Barton and Lydon Murtha. None are great, but again, they add depth and competition.

Made a big improvement by ditching Mike Furrey and signing Bryant Johnson and Curry, drafting Williams and trading for Northcutt.

Of course, at quarterback, you now have Matthew Stafford competing for a starting spot. The Lions played five different quarterbacks in 2008. They hope that number is two this season: Stafford and Daunte Culpepper.

And without question, the position they improved the most was at linebacker, also easily the worst position on the field in '08. Larry Foote, Julian Peterson, DeAndre Levy and Cody Spencer could make up four of their top five linebackers along with Ernie Sims. Huge improvement over last year's lot.

Unfortunately 3-16 is an improvement from 0-16

They playing 19 games this season?

He has a great arm, his reads and decision making need to improve. No question he is the future, but I think Culpepper is the present. Let Stafford sit for at least several games, hopefully the entire year.

The better his potential, the longer he should be benched.

There is no way these bums will be competitive this year, so why risk having what you hope is your future franchise quarterback get killed because there is nothing in front of him to stop real live NFL defensive linemen. Use your 2010 top 5 draft pick to build an O-Line first.

I'd ride Culpepper until he breaks.... which is less than a full season.

As for competitive, I bet you said the same about Miami and Atlanta last year... and predicted New England and Dallas in the superbowl.

Stafford is fucked.

The curse of the promising Lions QB continues.

Two or three games behind the Possums O line and he'll be so shell shocked he'll be calling plays in the huddle from the fetal position.

Last year's O-Line gave up 52 sacks (second most) in 913 plays from scrimmage (dead last). The French army of pass blocking.

According to the Lions depth chart, 4 of the 5 interior guys from last year are back. The new guy is a fifth year player with exactly zero starts in his first four seasons.

Do not start the kid.

"Allen Park --The remnants of Matt Millen's draft classes continue to dwindle on the Lions' roster.

The team released cornerback Keith Smith on Wednesday, leaving linebacker Ernie Sims as the only one of the Lions' 39 draft picks from 2002 to 2006 still on the roster.

Smith, a third-round pick in 2004 who'd spent most of his time in Detroit as a backup, missed time with injury in training camp this summer. But with coach Jim Schwartz emphasizing more physical play at the cornerback position, he wasn't a good fit anymore. "You could still see skills, but it just wasn't consistent," Schwartz said Wednesday, explaining the move. "He was kind of behind the 8-ball coming back from an earlier injury, and we had a situation in this last game where we wanted to look at some different guys in that same role. And we thought it would be best to move on from that standpoint.""

One draft pick of 39 still on the roster, that is just pathetic, especially given where they drafted at those years.

Stanton was drafted in 2007, this was 2002 - 2006. They also still have Backus and Raiola, both were drafted in 2001.

Last year they took guys who had never been in a zone blocking scheme and put them in a zone blocking scheme. These guys are all more suited for the techniques that Scwartz runs.

Still not expecting a lot from the team. but I think the Oline will look much better.

maybe if AP gets run over by a train on the way to the game. otherwise, reverse that.

ps,

its absolute bullshit that stafford is starting. daunte clearly gives us the better chance to win now.

it really sucks being a fan of a team that is owned by people that dont want to win.

This week is the only chance they have to win a game before November, but another perfect season won't happen. With home games against the Rams and the Browns they should win one, maybe even two games this year.

There's always hope.

I have my finger on the buy button for my Owen 32 Lions jersey

The Lions are masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. There is no measure of futility that is not possible. Owen 32 (33) is a stretch, but it can be done.

It's pretty sad when you look at the box score.... Same total yds, better TOP, Better Rushing yds, better 3rd down conversion.... less points.

Holding AP to less than 100yds? not many teams can do that... of course, not many teams can lose 19 in a row either.

All good things must come to an end.

Good on the players for getting the W but this organization will be garbage as long as WCF owns it.

Anyone catch the celebration in the owner’s box at the end of the game? Almost as pathetic as when Little Ford and Millen were slobbering on each other two seasons ago.

Time to start another streak.

congrats Lions. I was happy to see Stafford not throw any interceptions, really hope he turns into a good pro.

Watching the Lions owners, players, fans etc celebrate was funny as hell. It was like they won the superbowl. Reminds me of a basketball game I played in 8th grade. We were losing 65-20 with 3 seconds left and my buddy Dave chucked the ball from half court and it was nothing but net. We celebrated like we won the game and the other team looked dejected. Classic.

DETROIT—Euphoria gave way to deep, unwavering depression Sunday when fans celebrating the Detroit Lions' first win in two years realized the utter insignificance of the accomplishment, and how pathetic their unadulterated joy must have looked to the rest of the country. "I actually jumped into the arms of a complete stranger because we won against a team that finished in last place last year," Lions fan Joe Kula said of the team's 19-14 victory over the Redskins. "Celebrating a week-three victory like we just won a Super Bowl is not only unwarranted, it is preposterous and humiliating. We're a terrible football team. Oh, my God, we're so terrible." A postgame effort by the Lions to build a victory stage at the 50-yard line to honor the achievement was abandoned mid-construction.

New players on the roster from last year?.

Levy to start

Finally some Draft picks that are contributing.

Follett signed to active roster had this to say....

"Just from watching, I didn't see the passion," Follett said Wednesday. "I didn't see guys running down there full speed and, like, really wanting it. I feel kind of like a pit bull that's been caged-up that's been watching every week and just been waiting for my chance. So I think I finally get it this week, so I'm going to run down there and try to change the mentality of special teams."

mmmm....Ether.......

GreenBay 13

Detroit 31

You are consistent. Deluded, but consistent. The Lions pass defense couldn't stop a decent college team, Aaron Rodgers will pick them apart, like every other qb they have faced has done.

except of course Green Bay's O line can't seem to stop a decent college team either. still no way the Lions win.

joe t and sterling just predicted a lie-downs victory tomorrow!

True. I bet they'll be looking to trade down regardless of where they wind up in the top 3. Way too many holes to fill, especially when you draft tight ends and receivers instead of D Line and secondary, and then claim any warm body off the waiver wire.

extremely deep draft in 2010, so yes trading down for 2 second round picks may be the way to go. the 2nd or 3rd pick may be easier to trade than #1. but dont forget, its possibly an un-capped year, so this may lead teams (like the 'skins or cowgirls) to spend more $...

pedigrew looks decent. if he keeps improving and goes the way of say an antonio gates, it will be a big pick, especially if he gets better at blocking. its like having another O-lineman if he can block decently. its not a bad pick barley!

random question:

lions have 2 starting wr's with last name "johnson". so why doesnt it say C. Johnson on the back of calvin's jersey... usually they add the middle initial when theres another dude w/ same name? i guess since bryant sucks and he wont be back next season hopefully, they figured not to bother?

The problem is, no one wants the #1 pick. Too much guaranteed money. Unless there is an absolute can't miss guy out there, no one will deal with the team with #1. Look at how many trades there are involving picks 1-5, not many. No one wants them.

stafford becomes first rookie QB in nfl history to throw 5 td passes!!!!!!!!!!

LIONS WIN!!!!

Forward down the field,

A charging team that will not yield.

And when the Blue and Silver wave,

Stand and cheer the brave.

Rah, rah, rah.

Go hard, win the game.

With honor you will keep your fame.

Down the field and gain,

A Lions victory! GO LIONS!

I thought Detroit was going to take it, but in the fight for the 'worst team on earth' title, the Browns wanted it a little more.

Someone always wants the #1 pick.

Every year, someone wants it bad.

The Lydowns reach yet another pinnacle of embarrassment and abject futility in their 19th straight road loss to Baltimore, 48-3. The Ravens set franchise marks for yards, rushing TDs and tie their franchise record for points. Only the Lions could make a 6-6 team look like the Saints or Colts. Sad.

My only concern now is that they will put Stafford back in and he will end up getting hurt really bad. Have you guys seen how many hits this kid has taken so far?

And with their latest loss to the Bears, the Lions are 2-30 over the last two seasons, and 33-111 since 2001. Look for another major turnover in personnel in the off season.

Players, yes. Front office no.

Great draft, the best one the Lions have had in years. I even agree with the Pettigrow pick now that I see the defensive studs available this year. I hope they handle this one just as well.

Rummy has been awfully quiet lately. Do you think that he finally sees the light?

I hope he hasn't hung himself.

I think Mayhew has done a pretty good job so far, and Schwartz will get at least three or four years. The problem is that the roster is so bereft of talent due to Millen's buffoonery that it will take several years of solid drafting and some luck for the Lions to be competitive again. Whether Stafford can survive the punishment that long is another question. I still think they should have drafted Dline or secondary instead of Pettigrew, but that is meaningless now. The whole take the best player available regardless of position approach works for teams that are decent, not for teams that have so many glaring holes to fill. What good is a tight end when you can't stop anyone?

Rummy has been silent. He thought we were all nuts to think they might only get two wins.

Remember the saying, ......There is always next year.

except for the lions.

what are people thinking draft-wise?

obviously its suh or mccoy at DT for the 2nd pick. i think we should go o-line or DB after that.
