looking slick with a few variations from the other boats built so far.... are you planning to keep the rear beam or get rid of it? Looks like you are intending to go with the rudder 'lump' rather than the system on some of the woodies so far?

We did try with the glass boats built in Asia to eliminate the beam, but for a few reasons the boat wings in the stern weren't stiff enough; I am sure could be addressed but the beam ain't too bad.

here you go steve this is how we are holding the flares on

cool.

you can always add a rib where the bridle/kite block is and that's about 600mm forward of the stern, could also consider for where the vang area is to do the same.

Looking good ;_)

That looks heaps better than having a handle bar across the whole boat.

Nice work lads.

+1

but put a descent hole through it as the floor tends to hold a bit of wet when heeled

hey all

so the boat is nearly ready to turn over, which means there is a set of frames going. If your interested you will need to pay a fee to rob shaw you can contct him through his website www.shawyachtdesign.com. If nobody speaks up they are going to the tip, cause there is no room in the shed.

Where are you gonna get your spars from and how much are you looking at?

If you haven't got them yet I would be talking to C-Tech in NZ.

I'm currently looking for a mast for another boat and have found that there prices are very good because of the $ exchange rate of the Oz $ to the NZ $.

They also have the prices on the site for the Shaw's

Here is the link. www.c-tech.co.nz

Have a look for your self

I haven't heard from you guys from the email, and I can't message you.

check out the www.shaw650.com news section, there is a link to the OD interim rules; we want to figure out a way if needed to grandfather you in based on a points that are not going to be allowed in future boats (the inner carbon skin, other stuff maybe) and then also the things you went ahead and did yourself which aren't as per design but we don't think we have a problem with (no rear beam). Weight will be one thing to consider, but most of the wooden boats this is not an issue I think.

Sail dimensions and stuff are on there as well; still a few elements to complete; they are INTERIM meaning not finalised.

There's a few Shaws headed up now, so best we can all play OD together.

Check it out, rather than doing it by public forum, email me or message me ok?

Cheers

She looks great, really neat

How did you guys do your chain plates? I am currently trying to figure out how I will do mine, both structuraly and for function ie keeping bits that can catch on the kite below the deck level. Any pics you have displaying that area would be great.

What are the avantages of having the V2's extend all the way to the deck instead of terminating at the bottom spreader?

Cheers

Gives a great little extra to get the kite stuck in, wrapped around when it hits the fan!

no real advantages either way.... just a preference....

removes the need to have a link or adjuster up on the spreader tip, keeping the rig cleaner.....

and allows you to adjust from the deck... not that you'll need to but still good to have the option.

OK, why have them separate from the lower spreader rather than follow the intermediates? (or whatever you should really call them.) Does it give better mast bend control or stability?

allows the tip to flex going upwind and the top jumpers take up when the forward motion of the kite comes into play.

Got to see the shed owner got a ride, took a lot of beer to build that boat.

More money spent on liquid refreshments than on materials for the build.
